  1. First real drive of Fakerri! Still needs a bunch of work, but resurrecting any 56 year old car that has been run hard and hung up wet [Irk] is, um, fun. Now where is a sunset when I want one?
  2. mimicking cats 🐈‍⎛ mating
  3. I will have a swap table! But zero contest entries. 😑
  4. I already said what mine is, and I'm not changing. ðŸĪŠ
  5. I expected to fix some things on Fakearri, every old vehicle I got needed something. But I have come to the conclusion that this was rode hard and hung up wet. I got a referral for a mechanic who does house calls, he got the brakes working. Once the fuel system is not leaking, I can move the rat-proof shipping container to the final spot in back. I have half the boot floor done, homage to American rat rodding is the salvaged sign, taken from a sharp highway corner, I took junk metal to the recycler and that paid for the signs! I hate the fuel filler to tank, after the honeymoon if I really like the car, I will put a Monza cap on. A trip to U-Pick-It is in order for a wiper arm, and prop rod for the trunk lid, that 1/2" square wood is lighter but really cheesy. Added the semi trailer reflective tape under the trunk lid, just in case I get stranded at night, but really just to cut the little pieces under the tail lights. The other two strips went on the pickup toolbox lid. All the rubber fuels lines have been replaced, but the fuel pump was shot, I tore it apart to see what happened. There was a missing wheel center cap, the last wheel I took off, discovered a strange curb rash inside the front wheel. So that means either find the same American Racing wheel, of find more correct Cromadora wheels that fit a Corvette. Has not been on a lift yet, but I found this Dukes Of Hazzard scale damage, holy cow! ðŸ˜ģ Mechanic wondered if it was a movie/TV stunt car. The guy who was going to buy it before me, but flaked out after several months, was great for me! He put a new battery in, it was just sitting there in the box, behind the driver seat. I could figure out how the holdown worked, re-routed the cables, made stand-off tubes to mount the disconnect switch that was loose and hard to use before. This is like working on a model, but without a magnifying glass. The screw into the cable is a nice touch. Everything I do that isn't "normal" is easily removed, does not alter the car at all. So far, gas cap is a major for me. There are no Pininfarina badges, thought of making a prototype Fakearri plate with aluminum tape, traced the logo from a model instruction sheet. That would be a good application for full scale photo-etch, I could see it. 😆 The goal this afternoon is a test drive in the neighborhood. Based on the Big Block fuel pump, this might be the High Output version of the SB 350, which beats a poke in the eye.
  6. Rewind to Saturday, pleased I could still ride a bicycle. There was a new street ribbon cutting, a friend and I joined with our mountain bikes. Rode down the double yellow line because it wasn't opened to car traffic yet, funny to see people creature of habit still going along the edge. I then convinced him to start up a trail to Glassford Hill, a beautiful but chilly windy day.
  7. I feel your pain about breaking tiny bits! Nice photos and writeup describing the process. I've been collecting eye glass frames that have hinges, used a pair on my '48 Chevy Canopy Express. But in your case that wouldn't work. I wonder if watch makers ever build models?
  8. Woodworkers unite! There should be a thread just for this subject! I never used B&D, Makita has been my go to, still have the router that eased all the edges on my house. Have a cordless Ridgid drill which I like alot, but the same battery on the reciprocating saw won't stay in place, have to hold it while using it, which is unsafe, so that's due for destruction. Got a new Stihl chainsaw, the first one lasted over 30 years but can't get an air filter, and it was running bad anyway, can't start the new one to save my life. I have a woodshop, just did a major purging cleanup recently, replaced the fluorescent lights for LED (now there aren't kits to convert, just buy the whole unit), so I'm ready to help make trophies for the antique auto club show. Oh wait, this is the Irk thread, try finding a tool *not* Made In China.
  9. I'm behind on downloading and posting pictures. The widow selling the Fakearri didn't have the correct paperwork, had to send back the Title to get signed, plus a notarized Death certificate, and they still didn't have the exact words in the right line done, but Footeworks (started local, now state-wide private service for avoiding MVD) got it done. The timing worked out great anyway, note the date where the pen is pointing. 😆 I was born in 1961, look at the odometer. Some paperwork from previous owners was about declaring the odometer is close to correct, it did not turn over.
  10. I can now say it's official, I'm actually self-retired! 🎉 Two weeks since I left a comment in the Irk thread that I was waiting.
  11. Yea I'm quoting myself. 🙄 Only two weeks later did we get a permit. So off to the Pleased thread.
  12. We have chance of snow forecast, trees are in bloom.
  13. First time I looked at this topic, started with the above pictures and saw the kit came with an engine? So then I started at the beginning, and now I'm impressed! 👀 I have other 190s that I want engines for, so I won't get this kit.
  14. What were they smokin'? That include freight? I've never seen the camper, interesting. I've built the classic AMT kit, hate the chassis.
  15. I feel your pain, most handmade resin kits are a slog. Beautiful job! I find the brake booster location interesting (after still trying to get my real car's brakes working, it just looks wrong 😉).
  16. Yea no kidding! I've done that for a Honda model, been there done that. 😎
  17. Following this OT! My last build, I had many accuracy corrections, but did more sanding than usual before paint.
