25 Window VW/Porsche Microbus
89AKurt replied to 89AKurt's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
No, only the stupid..... I'm not happy with the orange peel, expecting to wet-sand and spray a final coat. Again, stupid, dumb luck that I could do this. Will breath sigh of relief when all is painted. -

Parts are getting smaller! Getting close to finalizing the interior so it can get painted. I lost one of the shocks for the front, so rummaged through the parts box and found this Honda Civic tree, which has struts which look cooler than regular shocks. Easy adaptation for the front. Then I looked at the back, never was impressed with the Snap-loc look, so removed one "shock" and then fabricated a steel mount. Yea it's upside-down, but didn't fit the other way. Better stop before I fabricate anti-sway bars, this was supposed to be a sort-of curbside. -
"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

I work on my own timeline and schedule, if I qualify, the finish date is far enough out, then count me in. -
Came out really nice. I have that in my stash. I like your collection of cutaway drawings too!

Mercedes-Benz W31 G4 models?
89AKurt replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Received the book yesterday, thumbed through this morning over coffee. No excuse to build the perfect and detailed model. The museum example, they say the top is almost never moved up and down, so don't need to make that operable. ? Since there are no color photos from the time, colors are speculated. Nice addition to the Tom Mix Cord book in my library. -

That would have to pivot down to become a ramp. Not this project, but the custom Renault Espace F1 would be the perfect project. https://www.motor1.com/news/63570/concept-we-forgot-1994-renault-espace-f1/ Thanks, crazy ambitious, that's why it sat in the box for years. Speakers are going in those boxes. -
In another thread, was turned onto this book, so of course..... (hint of my next project) Got resin that should not set off so fast from MicroMark, and pearl tweezers.

No more than me! I couldn't stand not knowing if I could fix it...... This morning when I was drinking my coffee, drew out the plan. I use the Mauser caliper, it's missing the gauge but it's extremely useful. Used the hot-wire like a madman with a torch. Next was to make a strong support that won't twist, warp, or freaking melt. Had the brass square tube which was the perfect size. Scrounged the salvaged electronic device part, found matching screws (the steel plate has threaded holes), cut with the Dremel cut-off disk. Bent with an anvil and hammer. Wasn't happy with one end, so corrected that with another piece. After much fiddling, got the perfect fit, then goobered with superglue and baking soda. Used the Dremel to straighten the cut edge, filed and sanded so the diamond plate would fit snug. Glued on the lower diamond plate. Held the tube with big pliers, and ground off one side using a bench grinder. I have also fabricated a new engine mount. Have a snug fit for the channels, tested the sliding action and am very happy. Before gluing the channels in, the little voice that I was ignoring yesterday said "you better make the hinges because who knows how that will go." Just getting one together convinced me to commit, wanted to take a picture to show all that work about to get ripped out. Revised the interior, I had gone around the funky hinges, so that was cleaned up. Added a steel plate to reinforce the B-pillar. Okay.... so it looks good enough closed! Lucked out, the width of the moving floor is good. As originally executed, the front door can open when the side door is part way open, so that is a relief. Just need to add small pieces to fill in the step area, and make a new cabinet to the left with the screw block. Then I can fix the partially melted cabinet with putty, and be back to where I was before the disaster. This looks like it was planned, in true Crapsman style. -
'72 Chevy Stepside
89AKurt replied to Plowboy's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I love seeing more guys building this generation Custom Series Chevy! You're off to a great start. In case you want a fan shroud, or separate door handles, let me know. Love that you opened the grill, I was tempted with the '69, but the radiator and support would have required correction. Somewhere in my WIP Green Barge thread you will see them. Look forward to watching positive progress. -

Thank you. I'm going to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear..... dreamt up a solution. I was swearing like a ________. ? Of course had trouble going to sleep, but I made peace with it. This project is something that would never happen to a nice example, I've treated it like it started as a rust bucket, that canvas roof must be death when it's not maintained, and many of these Safaris lived near the ocean, so would make sense the floor got wasted. It was also a stupid idea to paint the floor BLACK, under all that glass, it would be a solar oven, no grill needed to cook dinner, just set the hot dogs on the floor. Seat Of The Pants Engineering: going to make a retractable floor. Real easy since everything is flat (if this was the body, it would be in the trash). The fixed floor should be spliced in easy enough. Since I had a step down at the side doors anyway (part of the customizing done years ago), can slide out above the door jamb. I have brass C-channel, think it's the right dimension for the thick diamond plate. Have guitar string, and tubing, to make the screw jack (like what Ford retractible roofs used) which will be for show, not actually operating. The width will be what is between the side doors minus the speaker boxes. Paint the inside floor the same Africa Korps sand with the Rhino-liner texture, the moveable floor will be polished aluminum, that should bling it good. While I screwed up the hinge pin holes that were in the floor, ditching the double acting wire with the tiny aluminum parts that I made years ago. They worked good enough, but were a PITA to install, doors didn't stay open, just sloppy. Now that I'm using the pocket watch fusee chain, going to rip those hinges out and redo them, which will be an improvement! Also thought how to add the video screen for the back-up camera that will serve as the center mirror, and a flip-down flat screen TV. So I'll live.... ? -

Shoot me now! ? I'm getting ahead of myself..... Interior progress, Scale Motorsport houndstooth decals put on the seats. Can't tell that I splattered the paint colors, so that was a wasted effort. Got the nitrous bottle installed. Was doing the Rhino-liner floor, put too close to the radiant heater and came close to writing off this project. ?? I had been thinking of a way to add something made of the diamond plate, but this wasn't really what I had in mind! ? If I had to be stupid, at least I didn't go all out, just the area I painted black really melted. So the fiber-optic for the door is a write-off. Can save the side cabinet. The whole chassis is a little warped, think it's savable. But what a *******. ? Anyway, this is how far I got, speakers, seatbelts, dash detailing, switches on the console, coke cooler, and this assembly would have been done. -
Cheering you on! Sort of like a rebirth to get back into the hobby. I have no idea about the artist and what the women look like, but Shapeways has a large selection, I used one for my Ferrari.

Very nice job, considering the circumstances! I was wondering about the 429. ?

The Ads Are Now Out of Control!
89AKurt replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I use MacBook pro, just had an ad almost cover the bottom of a comment box, if I wasn't a regular member would have flipped out, covered "Submit Reply" button 95%. -
Ever buy kits...just to "Pirate" parts?
89AKurt replied to Southern Fried's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Guilty as charged, just got a Corvette ZR-1 for the TR8. -
Love the weathering, wish more people would give it a shot. I understand the tires sticking out, but a few bumps will slice and flat them. But the most important thing, YOU FINISHED IT!

I got the green size, one of the best investments I've made. Friends got into the online business, got the Lancia for $35. The 'Vette will sacrifice it's engine and drivetrain for a TR8.

Yep, good thing I still have some paint left. Talking about cow/pigs doing their thing, the ads are doing their part. ? -
Cool to see someone else build this kit. And you saved it despite missing parts. I wanted to modify a few things, such as the back tires which are the same size as the front, lame. I thought it was funny to see 70s tech engine in the futuristic body. You did well to put on the shelf!

What's with the ads mixing in with the forum list? ? Painted the primary color for the interior. I was going to do grey, but have to mix it because the German tank builders have hoarded all the grey paint, this is Africa Korps sand. The inside of the body needs to be painted to, wanted to match. Had to set up to see how it looks. The kevlar fiber decal is bugging the **** out of me.
