    '39 ZR1

Built this so long ago, that all I have was prints of film photographs. ? Since I made a studio to take pictures for the Desert Scale Classic COVID Special contest, put this in the set and took some digital pictures. The first model car contest I entered, had kits for the entrant's package. There was a choice of some hot rod, or the Monogram Corvette ZR1, so that's what I got. Bought a Monogram 1939 Chevrolet sedan delivery, Dr. Feelgoods. Then I spent way over 300 hours to come up with this. Got a few awards with it, one was invented just for me, Paintjob Most Likely To Cause Global Warming. Opened all the doors (with spring latch pins), tilt hood, license plate swings down to serve as a step, moonroof opens, and retractible antennae. Chassis was adapted for the Corvette running gear. Painted with nail 'polish', wet lace technique used in the panel area. Detail Master was a new aftermarket company, used parts for the radiator hose and speaker screens, otherwise everything else is scratch-built. Over time, the plastic used for the glass has become tinted, which is a cool benefit. This is still my best street rod model, and don't plan to build any more (will be posting pictures of the only other one I built). Thanks for looking. ?
  2. Hard to believe it's a resin kit, but nowadays with computer 3D printing, and the evolution of the craft, makes it worth the trouble. Killer build, nice alternate color. The windshield is so clear, is that resin too?

    Inca Jewel

Looks very nice. Great job on the gold paint.
  4. You suffer too, good to know. ? Thank you. Thank you. Try as I may, broke one when taking pictures for Desert Scale Classic. All I wanted was hood closed shot.
  5. Even though it's a PITA to prepare for this remote version of a contest, I would think you guys running the show must be busier than a one-armed paper hanger. It's one thing to try and take decent pictures, I have rigged a studio set just for this show. It will be a HUGE task to sort through all the entries, and post online. Kudos for giving this a shot. Also got me a license plate for some of my models!
  6. Worth checking out. I made do with those wheels, even though the scale does not match. (picture for Desert Scale entry)
  7. straightened out their
  8. Kitbash of the Aoshima Toyota Celica LB 2000GT Liftback and the Tamiya Toyota Celsior (USA market Lexus LS400). Been thinking of this project for some time. Have a couple of photos found on the web of a Celica with a turbocharged Lexus V8, so that is where I started. Assembled the chassis and engine, mostly with Tacky glue. Cut off the hood, using the Tamiya scriber. I knew there might need to be flares, design pending. Chassis pan will be shortened in the middle, cut off the back, and much of the front overhang removed. Looked at my choice of wheels. This is my first choice, has two widths of tires, and Brembo brakes. I like the look, but same width tires. Maybe, but no brakes. Only because the box shows the Lexus. Interior tub width is a very close fit. Planning to chop off the back seat, and fabricate a simple back area. Lexus seats are really nice. The dashboard is the challenge, sort of. The Aoshima kit came via Satco, which made the resin LHD dashboard. I couldn't let the dust settle after finishing the VW Microbus, so I'm off and ruining two perfectly good kits.
  9. FYI: Today it's super slow for me. Last night is was fine.
  10. approved peer-reviewed
  11. The same copy shop that I get "blueprints" done for architectural drawings. They have PhotoShop and know how to use it, and have expensive high quality printers. I can also do in the same "essential service" trip, since going in for this non-essential thing would get me thrown in jail (not really, I live in Arizona). Thank you.
  12. ☝️Killer workmanship! I don't care what Dann thinks, I appreaciate everyone's contributions if they can help other builders. I have the road car plus detail parts, hope to get around to this someday. Maybe when COVID-33 hits.
  13. Fireball Motorworks had no problem selling me two more wheel fronts for my '69 Chevy pickup (spare, and the second for the next pickup), and I really wanted to try his LED light bars, and check out the farm jack, it's super delicate looking. Hint of my next project underneath.
  14. Got the very last details done, today I picked up the printed scaled down kit boxes, and AZ license plates (I couldn't decide which one, Route 66 is on, AZ Highways is the other). Now it's really done.
  15. I'm sure nobody else has this problem, of finishing a model, then having something bug you and wish you did it, and finally get around to doing that thing just to get that little voice "you won't be happy unless you do that" out of your head. In this case, I didn't have the spare tire, which has a story behind it. Ordered more rims from Fireball Motorworks, since I wanted some other items he makes anyways. Drilled out the center hole and lug nut holes. Modified a kit inner wheel by Dremel grinding out the center. Carefully used the Dremel to grind out one side of the kit tire to fit the slot mag rim. Made a simple mount, which has a photo-etch nut holding the wheel. Also added a valve stem. Even buggered up the rim just like the real thing. ? NOW can say it's done. No, really. ?
  16. That's what is fun about models, executing blasphemy. Came out nice! The wheels are a good choice.
  17. Came out nice! I didn't know Hasegawa makes photo-etch wires, they look good. I have this in my stash, so of course I like it.
  18. I'm contemplating switching out the straight front axle for a driven axle, preferably independent suspension. Mercedes built sophisticated 4WD systems on their other vehicles, but the G4 is only the back two axles driven, off road performance was not good. Anyone have a G-class SUV already to look at what this looks like? Imagine an AMG modified G4 that is sort of like this beast. ?
  19. ~bump~ I've been thinking of making the Hasegawa 1/24 scale Kubelwagen into 4WD if there were parts that would work.
