Made the boxes, cut wood blocks, glued the paper on, done. If only everything was so easy. ? Headlights. The kit isn't bad, could have been lit if desired. So there were no reflectors, did my trick of wine bottle foil. So far, so good..... Taillights got my usual treatment, instead of painting, used AAA Insurance, Farmers Insurance, holiday stickers, and aluminum tape. Turn signals also done this way. First time I have cut out my KW Design logo for an emblem. Backup lights will be another sticker. I should have listened to my little voice, "those reflectors need the superglue/baking soda on the back." Naw, I'll be careful. ? Well, better than stripping paint!

Thank you! Appreciate it. You are the standard I strive for (and might never reach). Can't do without the clear on such paint. No more than me, I want to blow off work until I finish (I'm self underemployed for a reason). I got license plates and scaled kit boxes printed. ?

Good information everyone, I didn't know how eVilbay works. -

"I love the smell of resin in the morning." That is not quite a brick, but wow. I've used my Dremel to thin resin bodies before, at the end of the session the cleanup is ridiculous. Love seeing how you fabricated the hood. Good to know on the donor kit body..... -
I could see kit bashing with a Mercedes F1 car, make a crazy hot rod.

Thank you Dann! They were simpler than other projects, the nice thing about this kit, the belts are adhesive on one side, so shoving them into the corner is really simple.

I know, dredging up an old thread of mine...... this won't break a record, but come on, this is ridiculous. I shoulda coulda woulda got the Lamborghini Performante when it first came out, but thought that after the newness wore off, I would pick one up. Well, this is one kit that apparently was low production, and is now scarce, and people know it, and are willing to hose you. -

Appreciate that comment! Most of this project is inspired on the spot, have not really planned much out beyond the basic construction. For example, the hood bulge evolved with what I had to work with, the Celica floor pan had nice groove detail, that I wanted to accentuate. Have lots of small scraps of the carbon-fiber decal, so took it to the extreme for detailing. Had some dust boogers in the paint, so wet-sanded the worst, and sprayed a second coat of nail 'polish'. This paint dries hard quickly, helped to have in the pickup cab dehydrator today. First time I have used Splash 1K clear paint, did quick coats and let it flash, managed to do one of my best paint jobs ever.

Awesome, thank you. Fabulous job on that. After reading your first paragraph, glad I lucked out on getting the MFH Lusso. I have to ask, what are your plans on the Spyder body? -

Body color was chosen. This morning after waking up but before being totally awoke, plugged in different colors, decided on this nail 'polish' because it's different, and wanted to see how it worked before using on more expensive kits. I've finally learned that I need to spray light coats really fast, just build up a little at a time, allow to flash for a few minutes, when I run thinner through the airbrush before refilling. I felt this car needed a darker color, but not too dark that the modifications can't been seen, but not too bright and feminine looking. So I used nail 'polish'. ?

Dann, that's coming along nicely! You are using two putties, Milliput and Tamiya, I assume the first is for massive amounts, second for touch up?

I missed that, will have to search...... -
Interior is done. But first was the last coat of primer, trying out the white version of Tamiya. Finally got a decent enough finish, with exception of tiny pits. Detail painted the door panels. Glued in the Model Car Garage pedals. Black carpet installed, think it's Hiroboy, adhesive backed. Studio 27 seatbelts, this time grey belts. Made wire loops on the seats, because I couldn't see how to mount the belt at the ceiling. Door panels glued on, the ugly side of such a kit bash. Hobby Design carbon-fiber decals. They are thick, tried the Scale Motorsport solvent which didn't seem to touch them.

You dawg, that's one of my Holy Grail models! ? That's a super rare transkit, the rest of us will have to enjoy seeing you put this together. I knew someone who owned one, he also owned an Aston Martin, MB 300SC, and BMW Bavaria at the time. I was a teen, every time we visited his gun store, I would bug him to take me for a drive. Finally he did, it ran like a beater because it needed a tuneup, but sounded awesome anyway. It was a rose red metalic. You dawg. ? -

At least the chassis got done this weekend. Detailed the engine bay with photo-etch screw heads, and punched another aluminum cap. Strut brace installed, more punched aluminum and photo-etch screw heads. Exhaust installed, saving the tips for last. Everything fit great when dry fitting, but when it came to gluing in, was such a klutz! ? This kit had the American Satco resin LHD dashboard. Didn't realize it was so crude until painting black. The JDM kit has clear gauge faces, think the intent was for being able to light, the headlights and taillights seemed to be designed for bulbs. The resin dash has the gauge faces included. But since I have these awesome decals, used those, this time did not use as decals, but glued in on the paper still. Masked to paint the interior. Though the Tamiya instructions show interior is painted a mix for a dark green, I did what I wanted, including painting the seat backs semi-gloss black. Will put black carpet in, and of course seatbelts.

Tamiya 1/24 Mazda MX-5 Miata NA BRG Edition

Dang, paint job is awesome. Just about every car with pop-up headlights look dumb when opened. Many aftermarket headlights for these cars using the projector headlights. Heck, a ton of aftermarket things, you would never finish another project if taking that road. ? -
Thanks! I'm amazed what can be done with computers. Keep seeing blemishes *after* painting primer. At this rate, will sand the body into nothingness. Third time for primer. Good enough, can lightly wet-sand before continuing. Masked for Alclad 'white aluminum'. Assembling the engine, tiny decals, and punched an aluminum oil cap. Engine in the chassis! Instead of painting the heat shields, made bigger and better out of cigarette package foil, glued on with the Testors canopy glue. Added photo-etch oil pan drain plugs.

Looks awesome, the "weathering powder"? Makes a huge improvement.
