  1. Conversion of a conversion, the Canopy Express is a rare vehicle to begin with. I started this April 1995. *Edit* I made it a 1948, simple to remove the door vent windows. For starters, anyone building the '50 Chevy pickup needs to know, the driveshaft should be assembled the other direction, the end at the differential is fixed, the instructions are incorrect. The other thing I've done so far, is correct the running boards, by shaving down the perimeter so the ribs stand proud, not recessed lines, that's a pet peeve of mine with this kit. Another pet peeve, is the firewall should be flush with the front of the cab, not recessed back, but that requires reworking the recess for the engine, so I have corrected that. Yet another pet peeve, is flat headlight reflectors, that has been corrected. Can't forget the door handles, they were shaved off, will make new ones, that will sag like the real thing. LOL The reason I put this away for so long, the interior needs a total scratch-build. The resin floor with wheel wells is completely incorrect. I am planning to not keep the wood floor boards, but make it like they put in diamond plate or a newer ribbed truck bed (will be last minute decision). I have turned the wheel well form, from Corian using the drill press. I'm now at the cardboard mockup stage, which will become part of the plastic form to vacuum-form the interior panels. I have the tailgate done, used eye glasses hinges, and interior panel is done. I'm now working on the driver seat, which I had previously cut down from the bench seat, but was incorrect. I am also making a new gas tank, based on the drawing in the repair manual that I kept from owning the real '48 5 window. Next steps are: bed sides with "rolled" edge, center taillight and also the other taillights, 4 on the floor gear shift, thinking about making a hood hinge with spring and latch, perhaps a roof rack that would be made of rebar, dings and dents with rust holes, will try some extreme weathering techniques. The final touch, what should the painting company name be (plan is to have spilled paint inside to use up paint)?
  2. Yikes, this kit is considered rare? If I actually do this project, the decals could be sold separately?
  3. Ok, I see that I'm the one who dredged up this topic! Since a new topic has been started, challenging us to actually *finish* one of our projects, I thought this better get posted. It's based on the '50 Chevrolet pickup, with a resin Panel conversion, that I'm converting to a rare Canopy Express. Started April 1995, I had a couple of real vehicles that I took pictures of, and I owned a '48 5 window at the time so know something about the engine and chassis. Since then, we now have the internet, and lots of pictures to download, so that will help. I actually started working on it a few months ago, so it's time to GIT ER DONE! Vacuum-forming is the next big step.
  4. Hey, if it helps, I vote for this to get finished next! I want to build the S1 rally car, have the Profil24 kit, Beemax is on the way. What is that engine?
  5. It appears the same reason you stopped, is my excuse too. I wish there was a photo-etched VW emblem, so that could be taken off, and the paint can be laid down nicely in that area. My other excuse deals with the interior, but that's another story.
  6. Very nice! I built that when I was a teen, ruined the wheels when I sprayed Krylon over the silver paint. I can tell there is more than the photo-etch, turned intake trumpets, many more wires and hoses. Carry on sir!

  8. Thanks for posting this! My dad's father had a '57 Handyman wagon since new, it sure didn't look this nice before he traded it in for a '72 "Chevy" LUV (POS). It was a few years before I was old enough to drive, so that's what I inherited. It's a major reason I got a '57 210 4 door stationwagon instead of a minivan when I was raising a family. I can tell you what a boat it was, the rear tires would rub on the fenders when I took turns faster than an aircraft carrier. Almost didn't care how often I had to fill up with gas. Added seatbelts, I see she still doesn't have any. I would bet she garaged it. Sure I miss it, but was getting tired of hearing "nice Nomad" when I knew it was bottom of the totem pole.
  9. Thanks for the information. Only when one has a direct connection with a car, would one be crazy enough to spend the $$. That's me on Prom Night. The car's battery died at the restaurant, needed my dad to rescue me, switched to the Honda Civic CVCC.
  10. Not sure if I posted this project on that thread, but it qualifies. Time sheet shows start date April 1995. Not sure if you can get the resin conversion anymore, but as you can see, I converted it to a Canopy Express. I have it on my workbench now, and have made some progress recently. Next major step is vacuum-forming the interior parts. Will try some extreme weathering techniques. So this will be my entry.
  11. Since I haven't actually finished a model for awhile, but had the time to enter the IPMS Modelzona contest, I'm pleased to say it was worth the trip! I also entered some military models, but I didn't expect anything.
  12. I thought this every time that thread popped up! We have two months, so I should post an easy project in that thread now. LOL
  13. Well rats, I could have one in my hands today! Mark Palacz of M&S Hobbies just got his shipment yesterday in time for the Modelzona show today. But I got the photo-etch detail set from him, so I'm a happy camper.
  14. Here is a tease video, they are going to taunt us through December.
  15. Thanks for posting this! I've been looking at getting the Monogram, saw some vintage slot car versions are molded in gold.
  16. Yes, you did a fine job on it! I built this kit last century for someone who had the real thing. I can appreciate the chrome detailing that you have done.
  17. Ok, if you insist. You can see the diorama that is used for my icon, it didn't get an award, but my Honey, We Have A Problem got another First Place.
  18. Looks like a fun thing to do, both the real race, and to build a model. Too bad one of my stalled WIP has only half the names, and is too new to qualify anyway: Paris Dakar Porsche 959.
