  1. I relented and ordered some via eBay, for the modern propane lantern. I'll save this restoration for next century. By all means, if there isn't one, this can be the official Coleman camping gear thread.
  2. Individual tastes are so arbitrary and subjective.
  3. Looks like the Monogram kit if it's a curbside.
  4. Welcome! Almost everything has been picked up and hauled home, so I don't see scattered in the woods vehicles much at all. They used to line washes with cars to control erosion. I found a totally destroyed gas tank and hauled home. Part of my yard art pile, found the Buick hood off Route 66. I shot some holes in it first, to help shake the dirt and bugs out of it.
  5. seen while dreaming
  6. Thank you. If it wasn't my dad's that he got when he was a teen, I would. I have a propane lantern, stores can't keep those mantels in stock, so much for keeping local business alive. Thanks for the links, I found the instructions online, just need to commit.
  7. Thank you, that's why I asked.
  8. SSNJim sent me here, thank you. I got the opportunity to check out a private collection in Mayer, AZ with the Prescott Antique Auto Club (90% of the members drove their new luxury barges out, not their old cars). You can see part of the vehicles next to highway 69, but there is a CLOSED sign and gate, and dogs. He won't sell, but has in the past. He lives in Industrial zoning, so the County can't give him trouble. This is an awesome sample of Arizona fried under the sun weathering (contrast Nathan's post), hope you enjoy Rudy's collection. Normally you can't park here, this is his "front yard". The cage is for the T-Rex. Can't usually park here too. I'm already wandering around, while some members drove their new cars around like it's hard to park. I would love just this one in my yard. Back to the "front yard". I would like just this corner of this pile in my yard. Out back is his shop, which has a back lot like it's a full size diorama. You have to be quick to see his "sign" when coming to Prescott, it's on the wrong side of the highway. What everyone does not get to see..... Back to the "main level". I have to pause here, I love that last shot because I had a '48 Chevy 5 Window pickup, this one with the clouds kills it. Also, you wouldn't think a Toyota pickup would be interesting, but this is what started it for them in the US. If I had to grovel and beg, why do I want this? I had a '72 "Chevy" LUV that was not reliable. The sidelights were shared, the "Ford" Courier also had them like my LUV. These had dopey looking turn signals on the fenders. In the back is more, but I didn't take pictures of everything. Outside his shop is a set of Jeeps, one is WW2 vintage. Now this is a study in rust and patina. That concludes my tour of Rudy's collection. Bonus: I saw these COEs south of Williams.
  9. I wanted to wash perhaps a hundred pounds of mud off Blue Cloud. I forgot this is the Labor Day holiday (since I've always been self-employed and nobody ever paid me to go on vacation) so of course people gotta wash their cars. When I showed up all the bays are being used, and the cute PT convertible that looks clean to me is waiting. I park in the shade of a tree. Audi pulls in, clean as a whistle, then parks perpendicular to me, l show that I'm #2 in line, he is #3. A minute passes, then my Gemini says "what the **** are you doing, guys drive out of their way to find a mud puddle, then race back and forth through it, to get *the look*". So I left. Can I get two irks today? Got to Williams on empty. No paper towels in any of the windshield dispensers. Can I get 3? Trash deep in the forest, couches, mangled awnings, textiles, cans, in general decades of accumulation is out there. The cost of gas would cover the minimum dump fee. At this site I found several truss plates in the trees (for you know what) but only 2 rusty cans. I leave a site better than I found it, it's therapy, and someone's gotta do it.
  10. I pulled out this Coleman lantern that my dad had. Still the original box, looks like he mail ordered from a magazine ad. There is customer support for these? I know nothing, and was amused they have conventions, just like model shows I guess. Since ChinaMart and everyone else don't have mantels for the propane lights, thought I should resurrect this, have to learn something. ?
  11. Went through camping pictures and picked what should be a good Fakebook banner picture.
  12. Seen in Williams AZ. The Mad Max Squarebody tow truck. A '55 Chevy station wagon. This is a private collection *next to the road* so it does not qualify for this thread. ? I have taken a bunch of pictures, is it worth a new Topic?
  13. I went across my street to look at a sunset, and walked past a Mountain Lion.
  14. This is my yard.
  15. My mom was taken out by a nasty ulcer, so you better check that. Sometimes I hate technology. The MacBook has the finger ID function, because I've been camping, my fingerprint is messed up and now I have to hunt down the password for Fakebook, and if it wasn't for the email notifications I would not be here.
  16. Here is a milestone....... ? the dash odometer turned over today. I say that because this came out of a newer truck. I was also driving around the Ashfork area watching the mileage and spiraled in to this scene.

  18. Thank you. ? People in their ORVs that cost a small fortune (but those do fly down the dirt road, billowing dust) look surprised that I'm driving this 56 year old pickup. I'm also finding out the pecking order when meeting on dirt roads with those race cars, since they like the dust so much, I downshift and floor it when they aren't slowing down. You should see this do donuts, at your campsite. ? Quick campout Friday and Saturday. Found this ancient cabin next to a stock tank named Bar Cross. Has a rodent problem. Might be mosquitos. Otherwise great getaway. Had to move a few rocks to get up this obstacle. Pleased to figure out where that was, using the Google layer with the County GIS. Pleased to get a shower!
  19. Win at any cost, ditch all your values, morph for the Sheeple.
  20. Truth be told, this was Saturday night, got to a very remote camping spot. Being able to do this is a blessing, I'm doing it while I can. I know this looks ghetto, but it works. Watched one heck of a lightning show in the distance, got some rain during the night.
