Will’s cabover was only seen briefly in the In Tandem pilot movie . To do a model of it you can pretty much look at the picture on JBOT decal site and with his Movin sheet build that truck easy, you will have to guess on components but with AMT ‘s K123 kit , shorten the chassis and convert to a single exhaust and I would guess a naturally aspirated Cummins as a power plant (Freightliner kit ) and you are almost there. The Movin On series has been remastered by the original producer and is available on DVD, they are working on the In Tandem pilot, so wait for it!

Identify this resin piece
PettyKW43 replied to DrKerry's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was wanting to scratchbuild that hood . With all of the T600 kits I have kicking around I would like to do a W900L , can you post the height and width of the grille. Thanks Rick! -
IRT - Wow those guys are nuts !
PettyKW43 replied to Goodwrench3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They are nuts! The most current seasons are filmed here in Manitoba , home base for the companies now featured is Winnipeg , due north from North Dakota. With our freaky climate it take nerves of steel to drive the winter roads here! The show does provide lots of interesting model truck projects ! -
Ford LNT 9000

Really like the interior, the dog house looks spot on , I think since I have picked up a number of these Fords I might have to do one myself ! An old family friend used to drive for Motorways here in Winnipeg and this was one of the trucks he drove ( with a Cat as well) . Haven’t figured out Flickr yet but I haven’t had a time in the last couple of weeks for hobby stuff! This project is gonna be fabulous when done , can’t wait to see the end product, looking good Brian! Rick -
AMT Peterbilt 359 California Hauler
PettyKW43 replied to Leonidas's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As has been said this kit has not been seen since the early 70’s , the round 2 reissue is almost a direct reissue of the the original with two exceptions ( not including plastic colour) . Tires in the original were the first incarnation of Goodyear Hi Miler 10:00 x 20 ( there are 3 different variations) and second is the fuel tanks. When AMT brought out the TurnPiker custom 352 the fuel tanks were shortened to fit with the big fender fairing on that kit . All subsequent reissues of either the 352 or 359 Unilite cab have the shorter tanks . It’s an easy way to spot a reboxed reissue if you are wanting to pickup an original issue! -
Freightliner Frenzy
PettyKW43 replied to PettyKW43's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
With all the Freightliner projects going on on the forum and the ideas that have popped up while doing research on a few ideas that I have had in the planning for awhile I think it was time for my Freightliner Frenzy! I will keep everyone posted! -

I must say this really reminds me of several long gone Fords from my area , especially Motorways who ran a lot of these back in the day! This build is looking fabulous Brian , if you can do tell me how to post pictures from Flickr, I am new to this technology stuff and I want to post pictures of my truck builds that I have going! -
Freightliner Frenzy
PettyKW43 replied to PettyKW43's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Haven’t had a lot of building time but I have gotten the basics started on the cab shell, I have decided to correct the cab as well, lower the headlights, correct the panel lines on the front as well as adding the missing 3rd rib at the top of the door and add the peep window gasket . I tend to work on things in batches so I decided that I will also do the two story bed bug hauler and a 71 series 104 in double bunk that I have wanted to get going on for a long time! Picture to follow shortly! -
Hi everyone, I am starting my first post ! I have always wanted to do a box art build of the AMT White Freightliner, both the SD and the DD kits as well as a couple of variations. With all of the questions and concerns about this kit I have decided to put my Road Train Kenworth on hold for a bit and do the DD box art build . I started last night with my usual build sequence, strip all parts from the runners and begin with the prep of all parts . I want this to be tutorial for anyone wishing to build this kit so questions are welcomed, and I will do my best to answer any and all! As soon as progress is made I will post pictures . I have been building for 50 years and look forward to sharing what I have learned as well as greatful for what I have gleaned from this forum.

Random Things Going On
PettyKW43 replied to Casey429's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Box from the short hauler Ford or City delivery (same in both kits) would be a great choice of body on the IH S series, also one I used back in the 70’s when the kit was new was the snow plow and dump box from the LNT Ford. -
I agree with Mike , a brand new bull wagon would be great but I am excited to see my favourite trailer kit coming back!

As has been posted, careful sanding of the cab components is the best way to get good firmest of the cab shell. When I assemble this cab I do one panel at a time to insure an almost seamless build . As for the out of scale rivits I keep them ! They are all out of scale on just about any scale plastic subject, truck, ship , aircraft etc. I myself like the rivits even out of scale as it gives the eye something to look at. After a coat of primer and then paint they don’t look as bad and there is something to the surface other than plain flat plastic! But it is a matter of what each individual taste allows for!

With all the questions and issues with this kit I have decided to take a break from my road train project and build my long overdue box art build of this kit . I have had good luck and little problems building this one in the past , however we are talking about mid 70’s issue kits. I’m opening up a current issue just to see if the tooling is worn creating more problems than what were originally in the kit design. I will post my findings as I go along. If anyone can tell me how post pictures off of an IPhone without a separate photo box I will include pictures of the build as well, I will give details as the build process regardless! Would like to help everyone get the most out of one of my favourite kits! Rick

Despite all the criticisms this is a good kit , it takes a little more work than others but in the end it’s a great build. I would save the resin engine myself for another build and detail the kit engine. Lots of references on the internet. As for the too wide front axel, by eliminating the front brakes ( seldom run in the timeframe this truck is from ) it’s easy to fix the width issue, plus you are using the wheel and tire set from Moebius. As has been said the multi piece cab will need a little attention, 220 sandpaper sheet on a perfectly flat surface (I build on an old glass cabinet door) and plane both halves of the shell until there are no gaps , thin styrene strips on the back wall and then simple prep . If you are going for more accuracy then you will need to drop the headlight pockets down on the front of the cab as well. Good luck Rick

I just stumbled across this one, what an interesting and great build! I’m getting really tired of this forum, too many great project ideas! Great job on the whole project especially the rear suspension Brian! Rick. -
Kenworth W925
PettyKW43 replied to iamsuperdan's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Looks like you nailed the torsion bar suspension, I know that it’s a tough one but it is unique to Kenworth and a large percentage of their trucks from the late 50’s to the late 70’s had them . Wish the reissues would have been retooled with them or at least had them as an option! Good job on the build so far ! Rick. -
BJ & the Bear XXL - Done!
PettyKW43 replied to Mike77's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Until I saw this build I didn’t like the Large Car rigs that have been popping up but this one changed my tune! I really like this one , and after looking through the vault I can see building up something along the lines that you took! I will use the same paint treatment but switch the red to purple , buzzen’ dozen for a power plant and a shorter “house” . But must say an absolutely fabulous build, thanks for inspiration! Rick. -
I should also point out that until my late teens I was a prolific finisher, but as my interests and skill set grew my lack of finishing also grew. Not anymore, gittin’ er done this time!!
-
I am glad you posted this subject, for the last 45 years I have been building almost non stop but haven’t finished any project in 45 years ! The enjoyment has always been there in all facets of the hobby, including the finish part but for various reasons something gets in the way until my current project, a Kenworth K125 Australian Road Train. The truck is a scratched conversion from the AMT kit, no aftermarket conversion parts,. Unlike all my builds to this point I’m doing what I haven’t in the past , fixing things , changing things and stopping when I get to a stumbling block and going back to it and figuring things out to get it finished! Because of the amount of ours I have into it (250 and counting) I have deviated on a couple of other projects but I am getting closer to the end with out the usual interest burnout ! Yes you are normal as it turns out , I thought I was one of the few and not the many.

The real plane jane work horse fleet trucks make the best subjects! Absolutely fabulous work!
