What kit is this for? There are several generations of GMC/Chevy kits. If you tell us what one, I may be able to help you.

'70 Ford Galaxie Full Wheel Covers?
Oldmopars replied to Casey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Your best bet would be to find someone with good 3D drawing skills and have them draw them up and 3D print them. I would offer, but my skills in that area are still not to the standards you would want. -
The 2022 Cannonball Run Year of Birth Build Thread
Oldmopars replied to disconovaman's topic in Community Builds
Well, my new 3D printer arrived and I was able to get the engine printed. I chose to go with the Cummins 4BT. The STL was just of a basic block, no turbo. I found a turbo file and added it to the engine. I used Tinkercad to add the turbo, piping, change the oil pan, moved some things around and printed it. It is a very tight shoe horn fit, but it fits good. I had to route the exhaust up and over the engine to get it to work. No room to go down. I also printed some traction board, just not sure where to stck them yet. -
To be fair, not all 3D printers are created equal. Older lower resolution printers are going to have a grainy/layered look to them. However I have a 4K Mono Saturn S and the prints are near glass smooth. There are now 6K and 8K printers on the market, but it will be a few years before I think they are affordable. When they are, the only limit will be your drawing and the 3D editor you used to make it. Right now, that Cherry Bomb even in low res can just be sanded smooth in a few minutes. Much better than any other option. As a newbie(me) to the whole 3D printing thing, I think he did great.

Yes, however most people don’t know that, and recently I have see everything with a GOV plate on it including Prius. With “World” cars, what is an American car anyway? But you are right, a 1970 Land Rover is straight up British. -

I have had a chance to get bck to this build. With last years theme in mind it seemed right to hide in plain sight. I figure that the U.S. Marshals are in every state and that the state and local police just don't mess with them, and they rarely even know what they are up to. So, this SIIA is now part of the Marshal Service. US Government plates and all. I have seen quite a few Land Rovers with the aluminum tread plates on the front fenders. I liked it and so I made some for this one. Currently the wheels are un-painted and I am not sure about the engine. I may change it. I have a 3D file for a Land Rover 300TDI and a Cumins 4BT. I think I will print both out and see if I like one over the other. I think if the 300TDI comes out good, I will use it. It has much finer details and I think it would be nice to keep it all Land Rover. I will also be printing out some other interior parts. I have a GPS, Radar Detector and a Lap Top Computer. The GPS and Radar Detector will be in view of the driver, the lap top will be in front of the passenger. I may also print out some bottles, cans, candy and food wrappers, to look like it is mid race. The wheels are also subject to change. However stock may be best for a Government vehicle. -

Building exhaust headers from copper
Oldmopars replied to NOBLNG's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Can you get 2mm2 in Aluminum or a soft aluminum about the same size? If so, use it the same way, just epoxy it instead. You may be able to find aluminum or brass rod and anneal it so you can bend it. I'm sure there are options if you get creative.- 24 replies

How do YOU decide what to build next?
Oldmopars replied to 64SS350's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Because I rarely ever buid a box stock kit, I wait for inspiration to hit me. A car I have seen, a vehicl inspired by a movie, TV show, a crazy idea I had, etc. Once I have an inspiration, then I start a build. I have found that if I just open a kit and have no real plan for it, I get stalled really quickly and the buid goes nowhere. However, if I have a vision for the final product, the build holds my interest and I am excited to work on it. ADD plays a big part. -
Thank you both for the input. I’m pulling the trigger today on an Elegoo Saturn S. With it I should be able to print almost any 1/25 scale car or truck and any parts I want. Im going to start with standard resin, as it is the cheapest. Then I will play with others once I know I can make the standard stuff work and the printer is dialed in.

TinkerCad? Do you use it or other free 3D?

Any chance you would be willing to share those? The radiator looks great. -
After several YouTube videos and review pages, I think I will stick with the Saturn S. The Phrozen has a plastic resin tray, with 2 studs. Hard to get off. The Saturn it's aluminum and easier to remove. It also has feet that stick down for alignment and to protect the tray. Phrozen is a 4 screw system, Saturn is a ball style. I prefer the ball. There were a few other advantages.

As a follow up to the first question, regular or water clean up resin? Water clean up is $40, regular is $30. However if I use water clean up I would just clean it in the sink or outside garden hose. Regular needs IPA for clean up, and lots of it. BIG Question, the smell, the water clean up says low odor, how bad is the regular vs. the water clean up? Is the water clean up resin suitable for our use?

I am going to buy a 3D printer this week. Trust me, this is a deep rabbit hole. As I look at these printers and listen to the people on here that have them, it seems size does matter. My first thought was to get the Mars 3 but it has a Printing Size 143×89×175mm/5.62×3.5×6.8in. However the Elegoo Saturn has a print size of 192x120x200mm / 7.55x4.72x7.87 inches. So, it is much larger and can print a 1/24 scale average sized body flat, would still need to angle for longer bodies, but I think I could do all but really long ones. For example, my 65 Lincoln Continental is 215mm, tilted up it would completely print. Most bodies I checked were under 200mm except full size 1960's cars and they were all under 220mm. The Mars 3 is cheaper, but smaller. The Saturn is more money, but can print bigger things. If I go with the Mars 3 I can add the washing/curing machine. If I go with the Saturn I will need to just use a plastic tub and build a light box with UV lights (I also get over 300 days of sun where I live, desert). My total budget is $650. Then there is the Saturn S with 196x122x210mm / 7.71x4.80x8.26, I could print almost anything I ever wanted on that. However its another $40. Mars 3 $350, Saturn $480, Saturn S $520. If I go with the Saturn S I can print more parts at one time. I do plan to fill the print area and just put the extra parts in "Stock". At this point I am kind of leaning towards the Saturn S. It is the most money, but I would hate to buy the smaller one and then regret not having the space when I want to print something and have to cut it up and print it in 2 parts. Any advise you have would be very helpful.

Were you using a Resin printer or a Filament printer? If Resin, what resolution? I am ordering a Elegoo Mars 3, it is 4K Mono. I would think it would do the little door handles. -
TinkerCad? Do you use it or other free 3D?
Oldmopars replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
No, not yet. I think anything is possible with TinkerCad, however it is not the best product for complex shapes. The issue is that to create a part you need to create it out of simple shapes, boxes, cones, tubes, etc. You would need to break down the grill into these components. To do complex shapes requires you to build it out of simple shapes, then apply other shapes in the form of Negative shapes to take off what you don't want to get down to the shape you do. So, as I said, not impossible, but it would be a challenge. I would also have to have the car body in-hand to get measurements off of and would likely print several before getting one that fits right. I assume this is what you are looking for? -

As I get used to this program, I am getting much better and learning more about it. I did make some 2 hole truck wheels. These are in 20in size. I will be making some 22.5 also.
