The 2022 Cannonball Run Year of Birth Build Thread

I took some outdoor pics of the Cobra today and posted them in the "Under Glass" section of the Forums. -
Here's my version of the Monogram Shelby Cobra 427 S/C. I entered this one in this Forum's Cannonball Run Year of Birth Community Build. I custom mixed Chroma Molten Metals Copper with Delta Black craft paints and the stripes are Anita's Gloss Black craft paint, all airbrushed. I used Krylon Short Cuts Gloss Clear from the can, and wet-sanded, Novus polished, and Meguiar's waxed it for a shiny finish. I used the gauge decals from the Revell Streetburner Cobra kit and hand painted Molotow Chrome around the bezels. I used the wheels and tires from Revell's Dom's GTX kit, painted with the Anita's Glossy Black. I somehow lost the steering wheel, so my Ferrari Testarossa parts kit supplied this one. Shelby Cobra's are my dream car, and this is the second one I've built so far. The kits are pretty nice and pretty much look the part. I've had lots of fun building both. I included a couple of pics of the two Cobra's together, and the last two pics show the difference in lighting between indoors (2nd to last pic) and outdoors (last pic). I hope you enjoy the pics, and thanks for looking!

The 'Vette engine looks great in there, and superb work on the grille, I like the look of the mesh behind it! -

I got the engine pretty much finished today. I also detailed the dash using the gauge decals from the Revell Streetburner Cobra kit and brush painted Molotow Chrome. -

I really like the color on the Foose Cadillac, it's Anita's Galvanized Tin Metallic craft paint with Tamiya TS-13 Gloss Clear. The Foose Truck is a mixture of Chroma Molten Metals Copper craft paint and Apple Barrel Black craft paint. The top is a mixture of three different craft paints including flesh tone, white, and sand and is cleared with Krylon Short Cuts Gloss Clear.

I sprayed the Krylon Short Cuts Clear on the birth year Shelby Cobra earlier today. I'll let it gas out and harden for a few days before wet-sanding, polishing, and waxing. In the meantime I'll get the detail painting done and start assembly of the engine, interior, and chassis. -

Very nice! I really like the silver stripes on the yellow paint! -
I was struggling for ideas and with motivation after the Foose Truck build, so I took a few weeks off until one or the other struck me again. While fiddling around, I finally got some motivation, and shortly after some ideas came to me as well. One of them being to try out the Testors Blue Galaxy Color Shift paint I got a couple years ago. I figured a late model Camaro was as good a canvas as any, so I got to work. I used the Testors Black Basecoat, then the Blue Galaxy, and then cleared it all in the same day. After a couple of days I wet-sanded, polished , and waxed it. Being that I bought three of these kits for the engines, this one would be a curbside, so no engine, engine bay, or undercarriage details would be there to slow down the build. I sort of detailed the interior, but after using Tamiya Smoke to tint the windows, you can't see inside anyways, lol. Anyways, really not a bad kit at all, not very detailed, but the fit was good for an enjoyable quick build to get the juices flowing again.

I was considering painting the inner rim and lip chrome, so I did a quick mock-up. I think I like the all black look better as there will be very little chrome on the car anyways. -

I got the black stripes painted on Sunday night. The craft paint stuck to the tape just a little bit and it needs a few touch-ups, but it looks pretty good to me otherwise.
