Round2 to goes live Sept 2 1:00 pm Pacific
Dragonhawk1066 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
As far as T.V./Movie Cars goes, so many could be considered glaringly absent in kit form, but the Griswold Family Truckster gets my vote. Using existing kits with small tweaks and or decals could produce Herbie, Rockford's Firebird, and Wayne's World's Pacer, just to name a quick few. Completely new tooling could produce the previously mentioned Black Beauty, Blues Brothers Cop Car, and my initial thought of the Griswold Family Truckster, again just naming a few there. If one looks at movie and t.v. car possibilities though, one's head could spin pretty quickly. What seems completely obvious to one person could be an absolute afterthought to another. A quick Google search brings up the unlikely possibility of the Mad Max Interceptor. -
Revell 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302.
Dragonhawk1066 replied to Dragonhawk1066's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Today was decal and Bare Metal Foil day. I had heard some rumblings about having trouble with the Boss decals, so I was more careful than usual when applying these. The extra care and patience paid off as thankfully they went on very nicely. As far as the foil, I really miss the "New Improved" Foil, as the regular chrome is just too thick for my liking. Word from the company is that it's the same stuff and they just ran out of labels, but anybody that has used both knows that's not true. Unfortunately, I have to live with it, as I am unwilling to use any other methods at the moment. I need to do a few touch-ups, but that will be done at final assembly with Molotow. Hopefully tomorrow I can bury it all in more clear! -
Revell 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302.
Dragonhawk1066 replied to Dragonhawk1066's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks guys! Yes, probably a light coat, then medium, then heavy. Thanks! That's exactly the color I was going for. Very tough to mix and gauge when dried as I used craft paints that dry to a very matte finish, making it appear darker. I had to trust that I had the mixture correct before applying the clear. -
1/24 Revell Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa
Dragonhawk1066 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'm actually pretty excited about this one. It may not be a perfect match, but I think I can make it work for replicating the Targa from "The Gumball Rally" with a tweak or two.- 31 replies

Here's some progress pics of the Boss 302. I painted the chassis with a mixture of Folkart Terra Cotta and Decoart Cherry Red craft paint. The engine is Apple Barrel Admiral Blue, and the exhaust and transmission are Vallejo Model Air Aluminum. The interior was airbrushed with Apple Barrel Black with a coat of Pledge brushed on the seats, dash and door panels. I painted the steering wheel in Apple Barrel Nutmeg Brown over the black and dabbed silver into the divots with a toothpick. The woodgrain and gauge/clock faces are the kit decals, and there is some BMF on the trim. The body was first painted with a mixture of Decoart Orange and Cherry Red, but I wasn't happy with the dried color, so the next day I mixed a batch of Decoart Orange and Folkart Lipstick Red and sprayed it over the previous color and it looked much better. Today it got cleared with a couple of light coats of Tamiya TS-13 so I can apply the decals and foil.

Very nice! I love the big 'n littles and the stance. I also remember well the classic box art that you speak of.

What did you see on the road today?
Dragonhawk1066 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While this is a bad-a$$ Camaro, the full roll cage in an open top convertible just completely takes away from the car, and dare I say looks kind of dumb. Great pics of some nice looking cars regardless of my opinion on the Camaro, though. Thanks for posting them. -
The Bat Cave (Post your Batman themed builds)
Dragonhawk1066 replied to David G.'s topic in Community Builds
Good looking Batmobiles on here! I just have the Polar Lights Pre-painted Snap Together 1966 Batmobile kit with some added details like BMF on the window trim, and the 1989 Keaton Batmobile with figure. -
Revell Fast and Furious Dom's 1970 Charger.

Thanks all! Much appreciated! -
Looks great! I love that color, I just painted a '68 Dodge Dart with it!

Awesome job! That looks fantastic!

Here's Dom's Charger from the first Fast and Furious movie. The kit interior isn't very accurate and the movie car didn't have slicks for rear tires, but it's still a pretty good representation. I used Tamiya TS-14 Gloss Black and cleared it with Tamiya TS-13 Gloss Clear. I'm pretty darned happy with the shine on this one, which was accomplished by wet-sanding the clear with 2000, 4000, 6000, 8000, and finally 12000. I then polished with Novus #2, and applied a coat of Meguiar's Cleaner Wax. I didn't do too much detail wise, but I did use BMF on the roll bar and window trim and added ignition wires. This is a pretty nice kit and was really fun to build. Thanks for looking!

Great looking Cobra so far! I've seen some really good looking results from builders using the Duplicolor 1K clear already.

2021 IPMS Nationals Kit Information
Dragonhawk1066 replied to niteowl7710's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yeah, my wallet's already in serious trouble! I do want a couple of the Convertibles still, but the Coupe is my preferred choice for the '63-'67's, and I could easily do with about 5 of those. The '78-'81 Camaro is one of my favorites, and I could see myself going with about 5 of those as well, especially if Revell does like MPC did with the '79 Firebird and includes 3 different colors on the decals. Depending on the timing of the releases, I most likely won't be able to splurge all at once though. -

Thanks for gathering and putting up all of this info. Revell has my head spinning right about now with the '37 Ford Pickup 2 n 1, '69 Camaro SS396, Brian's F150 SVT, '67 Corvette, Porsche 911 Targa, 1981 Camaro, and the further down the road '71 Mustang and '71 Olds Cutlass. Moebius has my attention with the Ford Ramp Truck, even though I just bought the Chevy Racer's Wedge. Atlantis has some very cool and interesting stuff, but most of it just doesn't pull at me much at the moment, personally. I may have to start selling some plasma pretty soon to pay for what I want to get when these kits come out, lol. -
Very nice! Great color for that car!
