Turned out pretty good. The spark plug wires are too large, but I gotta say it looks miles better than some of my first models.

Let's see your geegaws!

Yep and decals to make the uprights look realistic too. -
Dan, I think you are on the right track here, but one thing you should keep in mind. 1 millimeter = 1 scale inch in 1/25 models. This rule of thumb will help you choose materials better for detailing. If you measure your battery cables now, you'll see what I mean. I like your work and I'm looking forward to seeing this puppy in paint.

Very cool idea. I like it. Why didn't you mask of a bit before painting the trim black JIm?

I have a soft spot in my heart for that old kit. Nice work on it.

Nice work. Very cool paint scheme. -
Take your time Andy. This is a CBP but remember this is also a race. Which means there will be a public vote off in Dec. I have been building with some of these guys for a few years, and they are very good at what they do. Only your best work is gonna set you apart on race day. I'm looking forward to seeing your stuff.

I have built this one as well. My onlyproblem was the rear quarters pinching so that they pulled the chassis deeper into the body. Some cardboard folded accordion style and placed beneath the trunk and the chassis solved that. I changed out the wheels but used the decals. Sue me, I liked them.

Help! New to the "model car" industry
Jantrix replied to modelsinpville's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good advice. As far as car models go, a general rule of thumb is that a good portion of the older kits (1950's-70's) featured artwork based on the model and NOT a photograph, the boxes were also a bit heavier (thicker) cardboard than more recent ones. I'd first separate out those kits and save them for last. Then separate them by manufacturer. Several companies are no longer doing models or completely out of business and their models might be more sought after. When you do get ready to sell them, do so in lots of 2-5 kits. More people are inclined to spend $20-$50 dollars than $100-$200 on kits, especially these days. Good luck with this Katherine. -
A little black acrylic paint and some water will also do the job.

GAH! I just can't do it.
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do. Really. But as I'm building I can't help but think how much better "this" would look with "that" added. I've been kitbashing since dad game me my first kits. It's as natural as breathing to me. I don't see a kit to be built, but a puzzle to be solved. Since the age of 10 (43 now) I can count my box stockers on one hand. The box-stock catagory is the toughest catagory at the few shows I go to. I want to see how I measure up. I have found a good kit (AMT '49 Ford Coupe) and am enjoying the build. But I'll tell you this, once it's done with the contests, (I never take a model to any contest more than once) I'll be adding exhaust tips. -
My '94 Olds is running a seriously arthritic hamster in a very squeaky wheel.

Congratulations Dr Cranky...

I'm sure Harry was refering to posts you made in the past and the reason they were deleted. We are all free to share views, jokes and scrapple recipes. As long as they don't break the forum rules. If the mods have had issues with you in the past get used to living under the microscope. You put yourself there, don't get p.o'd at them for it. -
That lil Fiat is a lot faster than it looks folks!

Very true Jim. But Ken was smart, knowing that a stunning paint job on a model that is already good looking and well engineered would win the contest. -

Jantrix replied to Rmodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's cool! You got my vote for using a '57 or ANYTHING with fins. And there's no reason you couldn't use the '55 front and the '57 rear so you get the best of both looks. -
I've been wanting to add a box stock build to my collection as well as trying my luck with it in competition. The problem is I just can't seem to build it box stock. I hate the idea of not wiring spark plugs. Or having to use stock wheels/tires or not adding exhaust tips. So many little things I do to make the model look finished to my satisfaction are against the "box stock" rules. We need a *head banging on desk* emoticon.

Very cool. You are very lucky. Once they see what we do as art, then worlds open for them. -
Way OT. Need recommendations for professional resume writers
Jantrix replied to Monty's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Indeed.com is another good job site. Odds are that your resume and experience aren't the issue. At least in my area, people just aren't hiring. They are making their currect staff do more with less so in case the economy turns (further) south, they don't have to lay off. At least thats how it is with my employer. -

Virgil I really dig your rats with all the Crankyhead stuff on it, but I think you over did it witht he Cobra. A quality build though. Great color. -
Thanks Erik. Slight change of plans. I'm going with wide whites and Stude hubcaps on this one. Yep, Jonno kicked our butts with his Fiat last year.
-
Thaks guys. Good info.
-
That's the plan. It will be one of the few times I paint the body before completing everything else.

Some pics of the AMT 49. I got the rolled pans to fit and mostly smoothed in. There's gonna be a little filler but not much. The custom hood was really bad and need a lot of work to get it to fit decently. I smoothed the side spear because I'm going to use the flame decals from the Revell 49 Merc. Color will be either flat black or Testors Lightning White. I'm leaning towards the white. I figure it'll look great with the flames. Wheels will be be black steelies with beauty rings and the engine will be a Ford 390 w/tri-power.
