An interesting transformation. In the real world they would have removed the light covers replacing them with clear ones or or raised the fixed and fixed the lens to improve the speedster look. This is going to be an interesting build to follow. Good luck with it.

Nice work. That Monogram kit is so good that it almost builds itself but when it comes to fitting the chassis/interior/body together you cross your fingers and say a little prayer because those elements fit together so tightly that the smallest mistake previously made can now pop up and bite you......... Good luck on the coupe, its an equally nice kit.

Very nice. I really like what you did with the side vents, you created a very sharp GS look. On looking at it a second time I like the see through grills on the hood...in fact I don't think there is anything about this build that I don't like. A FAB build.

Glad yours worked out. I agree the chassis can be a nightmare. Even though I thought I was being so careful I messed mine up and created a three wheels touching. Never able to correct the problem so back in the box it all went. I hate to be bested by a model so may have to get another kit and try again.

Corvette stingray 1965 Mirage Edition ( Monogram 1/8)
robertw replied to mirage1980's topic in Model Cars
Nice job. It`s obvious that a lot of creative thought and a lot of work went into this build. Also a very interesting way of displaying your work. -
Very nice build. I like your use of non chrome on parts that would have been chrome from the kit and your use of p.e. parts and scripts. A model to be proud of and it looks like you have a nice selection of Vettes still to build.

I think it turned out very nice. I've also talked to several builders who ran into problems with this kit, which probably explains why mine is still sitting in the stash. Well Done !

Also picked up that kit to be put in my build soon pile. For some reason that car rally looks nice in the pale or pastel colours. I really like how it came out for you.

I like what you've done so far. How did you create your canvas fender look. Did you ever read the story about how the original leather fenders were stolen by crew aboard the ship that took them to Asia., the crew using the material to make shoe soles.

Hope you'll post pics as you rebuild the Thomas. Years ago I found a book on that race and became fascinated with it which led to hunting down more books. Got hold of one of the Flyer kits but have yet to build it. Reading about what the Great Race drivers went through and how we live today brought forth a new respect for our ancestors. This was an event that deserves a truthful movie and not the silly comedy with Tony Curtiss. There have been several excellent books published on the 1908 race although most are now out of print.

"Holy Grail" Models?
robertw replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My list could be very long if I really thought about it but I don't want to be greedy so : -the Aurora Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car -the Italerie Ferrari 250 SWB, 275 NART or a BMW 507 -any of the AMT/MPC C2 Corvettes that I don't have -
Like the colour, what paint did you use. Like your use of aluminum tube exhaust tips. I always think they look so much better then just trying to paint or hollow out plastic ones. Good job over all.

Need some info on AMT '53 Corvette
robertw replied to Hi-Po's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The stock number of T310 would indicate that it was AMT's first release of a glue kit of the '53. The date I have for that kit is 1976. It has of course been reissued several times since the last being in 2015 when it was numbered as AMT910. The most recent release is significant because they tried to recreate the original artwork although the background blue is a little darker. It might have some value to a collector but the contents are basically similar to the other AMT releases of the '53. Your box is in beautiful shape. -
That is a beautiful set of shelves , it's a good thing you built the Saturn. As for the weight of tempered glass, I've been there and done that, my display contains 48- 6mm tempered glass shelves each 3 ft long with four sliding doors each 7x3 ft. Thank goodness I had help hauling all that glass in when I build my dream of a life time cabinet a few years back. If you ever fill your up, and you probably will, you can always add an addition underneath. That display case is something that you can be as proud of as the models inside.

Beautiful save Randy. There is always, at least for me, a real sense of accomplishment when you take a previously so-so build and restore it to this level of finish.

Very nicely done.

Model parts are minor. I lost a 4 inch ring binder full of reference material, photos, clippings, mag articles. I had it a couple of years ago when I moved, it went into my new home, it was a white binder and on the spine was written Reference Material but now its gone. If anyone slipped into my home and borrowed it, please let me know when you're going to be finished with it.

Offbeat Places You Have Purchased Model Kits?
robertw replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Growing up I used to go into a stationary store, their basement was full of games that were particularly popular around Christmas every year and shelves full of Airfix kits. The shop closed when the owner retired and I grew up and moved but years later I ran into the owner, now quite elderly, and he still remembered me. Still have a lot of the kits I bought there. Again growing up about once a year the family would go away to visit close relatives. The business area was always closed on Sunday except for one drugstore which carried an excellent selection of kits including hard to find IMC. A trip there was always sucessful and years later I met someone else who had also been a shopper in the drugstores model corner. The city of Brandon, Manitoba has a great aviation museum but it also hase a nice hobby shop that shares space with a house paint store. Seems like an unusual combination but if it helps keep the hobby shop open I'll support it. Stopped in once at a garden supply store and found that they had a decent selection of kits, never been back that way though. In the nearest city to me there is an engraving shop, trophies and such, but in a back room the owner had an excellent selection of older kits. The problem is that these out of the way finds are becoming the rare exception rather then being something that you're merely surprised to find. -
Somehow the '53 just doesn't look right in silver but I can't fault you for doing it because your idea of a one colour theme is a very interesting idea. The models have all turned out well.

Very nice job and looks like it could have come out of the factory looking like that.

Having an interest in sports cars I have numerous ones on Ferrari, Jaguar etc and many, many on Corvette. Also have a number on concept cars and having developed an interest in the 1908 Great Race I eventually tracked down all books on this topic except for the two that were written in Italian and German. Seeing the reference to the Black Tiger by Leonard Wibberley I enjoyed his The Mouse........ series, and eventually found all five of them (not car related but great satire). My book collection is almost as big as my unbuilt model collection and when going into a new city the first places I look for are model shops and book stores.

Corona Virus (Covid 19) and Model Kits
robertw replied to Daddyfink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rudy's. That looks like the kind of hobby shop that many of us "old timers" remember from our youth. The kind of shop that you could spend an hour or two looking at kits and visiting with fellow modelers who are there for the same reason you are. It's nice to see that a yew of those kinds of shops still exist.
