Picked up this kit a few months ago (and have the submarine one on order) and it is on my build list for 2020 so I'll be following your build. My first impression of the kit was of a basic and very buildable but still nicely detailed kit.

Have had one for years. Use it to do aircraft canopies. Make sure it heats up. I doubt that you could get relacement parts for one.

Info on a couple kits
robertw replied to RichCostello's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
As stated they are old Aurora molds but in their day were considered amoung the best kits Aurora ever did. In particular they were noted for having the best wire wheel look going. They also had opening doors, hood, trunk and fairly nice engine detail. There was also a Maserati 3500GT in the line and one other car Name escapes me). None of them have been reissued for a couple of decades so worth picking up. A hobby shop I frequent from time to time has a pre-owned DB4 priced at $70 so as one poster said they can go for fairly high prices. -
Many decades ago (back when plastic was first discovered) I bought a Badger airbrush and since then I've worked my way up through the Badger line, single action, double action, gravity feed, siphon feed but despite having tried a couple of other airbrush makes I still find myself grabbing the Badger 200 for the majority of my painting. Airbrushes are a very personal choice. If you can it's best to try a few different makes and try to stay with well known hobby brushes and you shouldn't be to disappointed in what you end up with. For several years I had a hobby compressor that was noisy and only had two choices on/off. I began to hear good things about Iwata so bought a Smart Jet. It wasn't cheap but I don't regret my purchase, small, very quiet and you can ajust the psi. My only regret was not getting one with the attached tank but just getting the one I have took a lot of hunting. Don't go cheap on a harware store style no-name, a good compressor will last you for decades.

Storing spray cans on their side?
robertw replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've stored them both ways with no problems. The one thing I'd be careful of is cans leaking around the bottom edge. I've had this happen with both Testors and Duplicolor cans but never a Tamiya can. It has also happened to both cans lying down and standing up. -
Beautiful colour choice Randy and it looks like the build went well. I'm envious.

Citroen 2cv Van .

Like the bright colours. Looks like a good build. -
The Mitsuoka "Rock Star".
robertw replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That front double chin look prevents me from giving it an OK. Not that I'm excited about the slab side look or the overly large rocker panels. -
A gaggle of Corvettes 1 new, Bunch older. revised
robertw replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in Model Cars
WOW !!! I'm impressed by your creativity in your customs but my favorites are your cutaways, they would have taken a lot of work, and I like the Mako Shark like colour fade on your C6. -
I built the American Sunroof Car (ASC) a few years back and it was silver and it was 1/24 but it was issued by Revell as #6267 in 1992 and by Revell AG the same year as #6254.. Being a curbside it had poor inner door panels and seats which I replaced with Monogram parts with no problem. My information idicate that it has never been reissued. The real car had was a ZR-1 while the model has a very poor L-98 so I just glued the hood down. A few years later ASC created an LT-1 based Speedster in eye searing red. I recall reading that the first car came about came about because of a friendly competition between Reeves Callaway and a GM/Corvette executive and was built on the regular Vette line.. I saw the actual car at the '91 Black Hills Corvette Classic and in its silver/yellow it was a knock out. Sorry I can't provide photo proof but don't have a photo hosting account.

I believe the snapper version that you are referring to was of a different car. This is by Monogram and built the Callaway Speedster, I believe less then a dozen were built. The snap kit was by Revell and built a one off prototype called the ASC Spyder and was painted Silver with a bright Yellow interior. I believe it was one of the cars (repainted) that was destroyed in the Vette Museum cave in.

I'm running out of room.
robertw replied to ewetwo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Get the unbuilt kits off the tables and store them under the tables. Even better create some bare wall space and build some shelving with cheap bookcase units or wall brackets and shelves. I went all out a couple of years back and replaced a cheaply built set of multiple shelves with an 8' x 12' wood and glass display case in a small spare room. I have room now to built and display till I run out of unbuilt kits or I die (pretty sure the latter will come first). -
I am saying my prayers for a brand new kit not a reissue. I want the 2020 Corvette C8 in a kit that can be built as the coupe and the convertible.. What do you think my chances are ?
-
I look forward to seeing you do something different with this car. I've always wanted to build a second one but always thought I'd just end up creating an Aerovette but in a different colour. I had the same problem as you did with the chassis but I cut it into only two pieces and fitted it that way. I've always wondered why Revell put out that model which on the surface should not have had that much sales appeal but read somewhere that someone fairly high up was a real fan of the car. Whatever the reason I'm glad the kit came out and I still have a couple in the stash. I hope your build will inspire me to try something different with one.

Nice built and good colour choice. Not an easy model to build, when I built mine I kept finding that my fingers were getting in the way of what I wanted to do. It is a tiny little fellow.
-
Here is something that I've been doing that is a little different but is model related. Over the last few years I've been trying to turn a spare room into a model display room. About two years ago I built a glass fronted model display unit on one wall (8 ft x 12 ft) and this weekend I'm finishing phase two. I'm a little obsessive about Corvette models and for over 30 years have been trying to find one of each Vette kit ever released (don't have them all yet) but those I have were stored away in boxes and in closets. I've been wanting to get all those (one of each unbuilt kits) on display as well. Finally got the shelves for them built and all the unbuilt kits arranged and on shelves last night. Still have some clean-up to do but when that is done I can get back to building models to display.

Do you keep your instructions?
robertw replied to VanSpence's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Didn't keep some from my beginning days of modelling (late 50s) but since then, yes I keep them and have many going back to the early 60's. They take up most of one drawer in a filing cabinet. Enjoy going back through them ever so often and and feeling guilty about the kits I butchered, threw out and wish I could have a second chance at. -
Very clever modification of a neat little kit.
-
Even if that is your only build of the year it is one to be proud of. A beauty of a model and a sinister looking car.
-
Checked out your website Randy, especially the Corvette section which is one of my areas of interest. Well done, you have built a good selection of Vettes.
-
Very nice Jerry. I'm going to have to up my game. Rob Wheeler
-
Very nice. I like your choice of colour, one that is a little out of the expected. Looking at your group shot perhaps you should now build a model of the really rare Black 54.
-
Too good of a paint job to be a taxi in Tokyo. LOL You've done a great job and I share your interest in doing these odd quirky little vehicles.
-
For an old man of 42 I would say he's aging very well. You can be proud of your work in 1977.

Looks good. Glad to see these kits being built. I have the Monogram Cord on my bench right now which I hope to have done by years end.
