  1. Time for an update! The scoop halves were painted flat white on the inside, as this is the color they should be, and there is no way to do it once it is assembled. The body was assembled, panel lines scribed, flaws cleaned up, and light coat of white primer sprayed: Since headlights buckets supposed to be white on the real car, and decals do not cover that area, they needed to be sprayed white. I also sprayed the louvers on the front fenders, as I wanted to cut the decal in those spots, and wanted to avoid touching up much. Decanted some white paint: Painted headlight buckets and louvers, then masked it off for the base coat: Painted all the panel lines and hard to reach areas first: Basecoat done and masks removed: Also painted and primed bunch of other parts: Wheels were stripped off their gaudy chrome and mounted for paint: Primed and painted with Model Master aluminum plate buffing metalizer, buffed, and mounted on tires: Centers and bolts were painted. Since contest is strictly box-stock, I will stop here, but possibly add some more detail to this later on: Once the paint was dry, I lightly wet-sanded the body, and started decaling the body. What a nightmare. Decals held up, but were really tough, and it took a lot of effort, setting solution, and heat to make them conform to various curves and crevices. In the middle of decaling session: Finally, after almost 2 hours, I was done. Ready for clearcoat: Clearcoat next!
  2. Nice! Only beemer is a BMW bike. BMW car is a bimmer. As a huge fan of the marque, I feel obliged to spread the truth! https://www.google.com/search?q=beemer+vs+bimmer
  3. If these are completely dry like this - I'm afraid there isn't much you can do. Decals shrink after microsol ,and of it dried with a wrinkle, its most likely fused together by now. You need to have a stiff wide brush for these large decals, and a hair dryer. Position the decal, apply setting solution, and spread it over with a wide brush. One it starts wrinkling, use heat from hair dryer t help it and constantly brush the decal to smooth the wrinkles. Do NOT overdo with the heat and apply very little pressure with the brush. It takes a lot of time to make these conform to curves. Some decals are better than others. Cartograf makes the best decals I have worked with. Studio 27 is not bad. Tamiya is mid-pack.
  4. Dann, sorry if I missed it - the thread is rather long - but you are not doing CF decals?
  5. Orange Jagermeister.
  6. Yes, I have seen some stance problems with these kits too, but I'm not at the point where I even test-fitted suspension yet. Will cross that bridge then.
  7. Love the prototype!
  8. Real nice, lovely paintjob, great color.
  9. Blue #53 looks pretty striking!
  10. It does, and makes you think why more kit makers do not include hoods as clear parts. Such a simple way to add an option for a model builder. Don't like it clear - paint it just like a regular part. Wanna show off the engine - leave it clear. I'm definitely building more kits like this. Seems only Tamiya did this one several of their early releases.
  11. They sell kids now?
  12. True. I have both kits, and there is a reason I have not started them. They are doozies.
  13. Lots of parts! Looks great!
  14. Yes, their Countach kits I believe have numbers #5 and #6, so very early in the lineup. This one is #11. These Porsches are kits #4 and #12, so right from the same alley. I believe they are very simple, but buildup into very cool models.
  15. Easy with a dremel and a shortie drill bit!
  16. Tamiya 850i is a re-pack of Revell kit, so is their E36 325i kit. And its a very average kit, tbh.
  17. Polished the heck out of it, but in all honesty, it was pretty clear to begin with. Thank you!
  18. Thanks, Dann, Tamiya did release some jewels back then...I think this kit is under 60 parts all in including tires.
  19. So. This is the only bimmer in your stash? You need to fix that! Its a really good kit from Fujimi. Usually I'm not a big fan of their kits, but this one is very good. Yes, it usually the case with race cars and a bunch of little pieces that typically not present in road cars. I mean, I'd get it for the harness alone. But then the mesh, the wings, the brakes... Thanks!
