It’s a neat little curbside kit, and I enjoyed building it. I will definitely build more of these curbside Tamiyas in the future – they are quick and fun builds.

All right folks, time to wrap this one up. Headlights and covers were painted. Covers needed a white surround, and headlights are chrome-plated one-piece, so had to mask and paint the trim black. Turned out fine: The cockpit glass was masked off and trim painted: Everything installed – glass, headlights, antenna, mirrors: Taillights were painted and also put in. I also installed the rear wing: And finally, the model was married with the chassis for good: Turned out great. It’s a neat little curbside kit, and I enjoyed building it. I will definitely build more of these curbside Tamiyas in the future – they are quick and fun builds. But, this is not all. I was hesitant to put the racer figure in the cockpit, as I didn’t’ want to make it look like a toy. But I did want to use him in a different setting. Since this is a LM racer, I wanted to replicate the scene where drivers were running towards their cars at the start of the race. So the figure got chopped into few pieces – I gut the torso from the legs, and re-positioned his hips a bit, then cut off his legs at the knees, and repositioned that as well. The torso was glued at a slightly different angle, and I stuck the hands as if he was running. It turned out pretty good, though, I still need to work on proper positioning next time – from some angles it does not look very natural. After some putty work, here is how the dude looks in primer. Painting next!

I agree. I think this is true for a lot of kit wheel finishes. Thanks!

My favorite Porsche.

Surprisingly, it did turn out quite ok. Thanks! Thank you! Yup, clear did smooth it out quite nicely. Though, it was pointed out to me after it was done, that a portion of the black striping was actually semi-flat, but it was already too late! Thanks! Yes, with proper painting things can look right. But I think 26 parts might be pushing it! Thank you! Appreciate it!

Another update, as I’ve been able to work on this model over the weekend and the past couple of evenings and get the body clearcoated, sanded, and polished. Turned out great. Dashboard was also detail-painted and installed together with the firewall: Some detail of the decals/clear and dash: The back of the body shell was painted flat black by hand. I have also attached the rear part of the body previously sprayed flat black: Then I switched my attention to the chassis. The bottom is molded as one piece, and calls for some creative detail painting to make this look like a real thing, but I think I succeeded for the most part: I have painted separate engine parts in various shades of aluminum, steel, and magnesium, and drybrushed the molded part of the engine before assembling everything together. Not quite like actual separate engine, but convincing enough: The front and the rest of the chassis plate was painted black, then scuffed, then raised parts drybrushed, then it was painted with very diluted flat black, and brushed with a wide brush while it was still a bit wet to create worn-looking surface: There is not much to the interior on this kit, and since this is a box-stock build, this is just what this is: And then I temporarily married the two for a mock-up:

Lamborghini Diablo "Widebody" (ROG, 1/24 scale)

It looks great! One suggestions if I may - you take great pictures, but they would benefit greatly if taken from slightly lower point of view, more level with the car. Right now they look as if they were taken from a 3rd level. -
Very clean!

Quite a concept! PS: Tamiya never made an Audi R8 kit. Must be Revell.

Well, I would agree that Skylines are one of the best Japanese cars ever made, but they are not the only cool cars to come from Japan. Early Mazdas (Cosmo, RX7) are very cool, and 90's Toyotas were really good cars, especially their Supras and Soarers. Not to mention Land Cruisers! -
Very nice build. Something about this livery/color that I really like.

That a great flocking job.

Looks good. Clear should hide most of the creases, especially if you polish it after.

Shaping up!

Yeah, I'd hit that with some dull coat. Though, I'm sure glossy vinyl seats could have been all the rage in the 70's.

Tommy, looks good. The kit was problematic in several areas, namely A-pillar, both front and rear wheel arches/fenders, shape of the bootlid. There is more, it really needs a lot of work to properly portray the original. And its not an easy kit to put together, as the fit is very bad. -
Thanks! I got a package from Germany which had these newspapers as a packing material, and this was the first thing I grabbed when I needed something to cover the workbench when I was decanting paint. No particular reason Couple did, but were saved. Thanks!
