  1. Thanks guys! Wow! It was my first Tamiya kit I built back in the late 90's Thanks! I am! Thank you. Appreciate it. Thank you. it is a very fine pearl, looks actually super nice and somewhat scale correct, too. I hate when a model have this oversized metal/pearl flakes that does not look real.
  2. Appreciate it. As far as the website goes - I don't think it can be updated at this point. That website was created in the early 2000's and the way it is written, coded, and setup is simply not easy to update anymore. It needs a complete re-write, and I don't have the expertise to do it myself, or the means to pay a professional to do it - I'm paying server costs to keep it alive as a legacy site already! Thank you!
  3. You mean transaxle, right? Good call, I didn't' even think of that.
  4. Excellent progress! Interesting about the glass.
  5. Thanks man, I know about the differences, will make sure I do all the necessary updates when I get to the mechanicals! Next we are moving to cutting the chassis to fir the body. It wasn’t really bad, but some changes had to be made – this is what it looked like before I started – obviously it does not fit: IMG_1511 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1512 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1513 by Italian Horses, on Flick Removed all marked by ovals, and split the chassis where rectangular mark is, then measured the correct wheel base and reattached all together: IMG_1514 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Still some work to do with fine adjustments, but the basic shape is there and I can work with fitting engine bay and interior. IMG_1515 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1516 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Engine bay still missing the firewall and I still need to move inner fenders, but the axle is sitting straight and dead center in the arches – which is good! IMG_1517 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1519 by Italian Horses, on Flickr In the rear I made sure arches fit the fenders and there is enough room for the interior and rear package shelf: IMG_1520 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Chassis plate as it is right now: IMG_1521 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1522 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1523 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Did a light coat of primer just to see what needs to be cleaned up on the plate – lots of work still to do to make this look presentable IMG_1524 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_1525 by Italian Horses, on Flickr
  6. Terrific looking racer and outstanding pictures. Well done!
  7. Thank you guys! it is, isn't it? Sometimes you start to realize how beautiful certain shapes are only after some time. Just proves that some designs are way ahead of their time, and Z32 certainly was.
  8. Thanks! This is actually decanted Tamiya TS58 light pearl blue mixed with TS30 silver leaf 2:1. Model Master gunmetal for the skirts. 2K clear, yes. Its not polished yet, so got a bit of a texture.
  9. Finally took some pictures of the finished Z. Great Tamiya kit. Its a testament to great engineering, when 20+ years after you built it as your FIRST EVER Tamiya kit you build it again, and you are as impressed and happy. Box stock, custom mix of White Pearl for the body, and Tamiya acrylics for interior.
  10. Thanks. Hope so! Cleaned up all the parts and washed them to prep for primer and paint: Painted the body. Bluish Silver metallic with gunmetal skirts. Not polished yet. Love the color!
  11. Very cool color! I'm really partial to 60s pastel solids. Great build.
  12. Ha, not every day, but I've been on a one per week or so pace for a couple of months now! Which is awesome. Not sure what you mean about the dust - if I get some in the clear, I wet sand it, then polish the clear. I spray only outside. Yup, I also prefer the top down look. Thanks! Thank you!
  13. Since I finished with Miata, time to pick another quick box stock to keep the ball rolling. I have a few kits that I do want to build and put on the shelf, but I don't want to superdetail or spend way too much time on them - so these Tamiya box-stockers are perfect way to do just that. This is another Nissan that I have built close to 20 years ago when I just started getting hooked on these Tamiya kits, and it also did suffer at the hands of my nephews long time ago and was blown to bits probably at some point. Time to build another one. IMG_1601 by Italian Horses, on Flickr When I buy kits that were re-issued at some point, I always try to get an original release - for the history of it first, and the fact that molds are usually much better than subsequent re-releases. The only case where that might not be the best way to go is with older race cars, where original decals might be a problem - they usually do deteriorate over time. This one doesn't have many decals, thank fully. Just like I like it - original Tamiya release of 1989 in a grey bottom box with original catalogs, crinkly tamiya plastic, yellowed instruction sheet and that unforgettable smell of a 90-s kit! IMG_1602 by Italian Horses, on Flickr The kit is curbside, rather simple, but that is not the point here. S13 is a legend, and look at that shape! 80-s minimalism at its finest! IMG_1604 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Will be painted factory Bluish Silver with gun-metal skirts. Wish me luck!
  14. Interior and body paint look great! For the lights - it should have a faint outline of the area to be painted imprinted there. Take a piece of masking tape, and stick it over it, then find that outline and lightly run a side of a soft pencil over it - that will transfer the outline to the masking tape. Peel it off, cut along the line with a sharp blade - and there you have it - a custom paint mask! Put back on, and spray or brush paint away.
  15. Haha, nice. Very ambitious project - I know you can do it! Good luck, I will follow for sure.
  16. Yup, the kit glass is way thick, like I said in my last post. Decided I don't like it, so I yanked it out, and cut the side windows off. Much better now. Thanks!
  17. Thanks, I'll try to live up to the expectations! Haha, would be cool to work for a company like this, I suppose. Thanks! Thank you all!
  18. Superb build! If you haven't seen the WIP, check it out folks. What's next on the list?
  19. Yeah, this one wasn't anything special. Wasn't terrible, but not usual Tamiya quality. Possibly because it was a re-issue - one of the reasons I always try to get first editions cause they are always better molds. Thank you guys. The model is now posted in the completed section with some (in my opinion) better pictrues:
  20. Finished this little roadster couple of days ago. Built box-stock (except for some seatbelts), airbrushed decanted TS-9 British Racing Green, 2K clear, custom mix of Tamiya acrylics for the interior. Not the best Tamiya kit, but can be made to look good on the shelf.
