An appeal for help: 1960's Morris Mini
GeeBee replied to Peter_D's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can send you some BMC colour charts over, by the way there were a few grey colours available in the 60's, Smoke Grey, Dove Grey and Farina Grey. The two tone roof was only available on the Cooper and the Cooper S and the upmarket Wolseley Hornet and Riley Elf, standard Mini's, both Morris and Austin only had the Monotone paint scheme, on Coopers and Cooper S the two tone carried over to the interior, which finished when the MK2 was launched although the two tone paint was still available for the body, which stopped completey when the Mk3 was launched. I'm sure you could mix a colour that would be close using either of the paints you mention that are available to you -
An appeal for help: 1960's Morris Mini

Silver wasn't a standard factory colour, it may have been repainted, or as has already been mentioned might have been in real life light grey, there's a few things that need to be done to convert a Tamiya Mini Cooper to a more basic Mini, I did a convertion a few years ago, hopefully the article on my website should help you out, if you have any further questions, please ask ..... http://geoffbrown.webs.com/basicaustinmini.htm -
Sorry, that was a slight 'Typo' it should have read "Working from" & not working on, I only wish I had a 1:1 356 sitting in my garage .....
-
BMF ..... The seats and side panels are a mix of Humbrol enamels, mixed to replicate the photo's of the full size 356 I'm working on.
-
Well as the weather is on the turn over here, it's time to crank on the heating and spending more time in the hobby room, got the seats put together, side panels all fitted out and fitted into place, plus the dashboard, some parts are a little tricky to get to fit, but nothing too hard, a bit of touching up to hide a few marks on the side panels, but once dry won't be noticed.

Stunning build, I must get one of those windsheild frames for when I do mine, and now I know what to do with the Tamiya Beetle engine I have in the spares box ......

Coming along nicely, I've got to get one of these, luckily Revell AG have released this kit in there packaging ...... -
On the Revell AG website it mentions this kit has "Authentic decals with various markings for two variants", so I'm wondering what the other decals will be

Very nice build ..... -
I need to airbrush a few small parts before I can any further with the build, but today I did a little more BMF on it ....

I've always loved the Daytona, and your doing a fine job of building it, I've had one in my stash for quite a few years, I really need to build it one day.

Well apart from the 911 Convetible I built earlier, these Fujimi kits certainly have more parts than any other models I have built in the past .....

I used to use Solvite repair adhesive for flocking, but they have changed the formula, and it now more wallpaper paste in texture than a PVA glue, so for this one I found a bottle of Evostick PVA woodwork glue thinned out slightly with distilled water, I find working on small sections at a time instead of trying to do the whole floorpan makes for a better finish, brush the glue on, sprinkle on the flocking using a mesh sieve, press down into the corners etc using your finger, and leave to dry, I usually let is sit on the side for around an hour before I touch it again to work on another section, the flocking I'm using for this build is a lot finer than I have previously used on other builds and I'm finding that two coats of the flocking fibres are needed. I'm actually in the middle of writing a book and the subject is how to do all the finer detail work on model cars, such as the Bare metal foil, flocking, painting, wet sanding & polishing, etc, when if will get finished or published I don't know at the moment, as I have never done anything like this before.

Haven't got round to building them yet, but a good look at the parts and the instructions makes me want to get round to building them sooner than I had planned, the Tamiya '66 Beetle which I built a few years ago looks a great model when built, but I did have a few problems with it, what I don't like about Tamiya kits, and this is just my personal view, is the simplified interiors, as with the Mini Cooper, Citroen 2CV, you don't get any seat frames, and some other interior detail parts are just not supplied, now with the Revell versions you get a lot more interior detail, o.k, other items like wheel hubs and brake detail are a little more basic on the Revell models, but lets face it, you don't see at all once the model is put together, where as you do notice the detail in the interior, especially if the model is a convertible, like the Beetle Revell has just released, I will do a Tamiya-Revell comparison once I have built the Revell versions, but if they build up as good as the 998 MK1 Mini Cooper did, then they will both be cracking models

That's some very realistic weathering you've done there, how good or bad was the kit to put together ??
