Unconventional Materials - From the jewelry area
NOBLNG replied to Jiml0001's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
This is my first attempt at braided lines. This thread is elastic, but once I have it routed where I want, I coat it with thin CA. The CA soaks in and helps the thread hold its shape. Then I just painted it with Tamiya silver paint. -
How to strip Tamiya TS paint?
NOBLNG replied to 10543Modeler's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Be careful with the lacquer thinner because it will also dissolve the styrene itself. -
Thing is…I have kits that I don’t even remember buying.?

That may be what happened to my Meng nippers. I have cut sprue with them and found on the packaging later that it is not recommended.?

They want $59 for those 3Peaks nippers on Amazon.ca.? I have a pair of cheapos that I got at Princess Auto for a few bucks that I use on everything including soft wire. I also have a pair of one sided Meng nippers that I got recently. They slice through styrene like a hot knife through butter. They have however, developed slop in the jaws after VERY little use and don’t always close flush on the cutting face. I see from taking these pics also that the cutting blade is beginning to dull.?

Quite the transformation there Steve! Well done.? So those seams on the roof are made only of primer???? That turned out better than I had imagined.?

Thanks Guys!? Just tidying up some details so I don’t get ahead of myself which I quite often do.? Made up some amber turn signal lens just because I wanted to try it. Edit: I hated that lighter…it had next to no flame height, and the flint wore out way before the butane was finished.? I re-routed my tailpipes and made up some tips for them from aluminum tubing. I also got a better rear bumper made up using some .156” half round and a strip of .030” for some extra depth. Glueing the two pieces together while clamped to the body also helped to keep the proper curvature set.? And I got the wheels detailed. The rears are epoxied in place and I’ll do the fronts shortly. The tape marks the position of the calipers so that I get them clocked to roughly the same position.
