  1. Fantastic project! I have not ventured into scratch building yet, but it has crossed my mind. This excellent tutorial makes the process seem much less daunting. Thanks! P.S. Do you use only super glue for all the structural joints?
  2. Hey, No worries! This is a good "while you work" cleaning... sand-wipe-sand-wipe. It keeps stuff from getting embedded on the files or sanding sticks. If things get really crusty I'll break out the brass brush or hobby knife too. The diamond files are a cheapo 10 piece 150 grit set from Princess Auto. They are less aggressive and less "directional" than my other files.
  3. This is coming along real nice! Sent you a PM.
  4. Could you please give me Frank's contact info? I would like to get  one of these, or preferably the pickup. I have a '54 Willys pickup that I would like to recreate.

    Thanks, Greg.

  5. Real nice! I love the color.
  6. Wire brushes don't work very well on sanding sticks, or my diamond files. Try the cloth, you'll like it! The odd bit that is impacted I scrape out with the tip of a hobby knife. I don't think I want WD40 anywhere near my models?
  7. Beautiful work. One of these Model companies need to hire you for big bucks to head up their design and development departments!!
  8. When I am shaping parts, the plastic bits that clog up the mini files need to be removed frequently. I've found that the easiest way is to wipe it on a micro-fiber cloth. The fibers seem to grab the particles nicely! I make my own sanding sticks with popsicle sticks and 3M double face tape, and this works especially well for them. Then toss it in the wash when the wife ain't lookin....
  9. Best thing I did was get a couple of cheapo food dehydrators. I have one in the house for drying glue joints, small painted parts, and filler. the other one is in the garage and I put the paints that I intend to use in the very near future in there to warm up. After spraying, the parts go in there too.
  10. Absolutely beautiful job on that car!
  11. Very nice! I like the weathering job too.
  12. Your devotion to detail is amazing!
  13. I bought this model at a flea market and it turns out I am missing one tail light and all of the clear parts and the decals. I cast a couple of new tail lights from Bondic and painted them with Tamiya X-27 clear red. One looks a little rough, so I will have to make another. I also made some side marker light frames from 24ga. wire, to replace the front ones that I sanded off. I think I will sand the rear ones off too and make new ones.
  14. A little progress on the interior. Guage faces are by bestmodelcarparts.
  15. I decided to get a little creative and get rid of the back seat. After cutting out the necessary portion, I made a cardboard pattern. I was able to use a chunk of the trunk section flipped over to get the curved front section of the three piece fold down seat. This is the first time I have ever made sprue glue and I must say I like it a lot better than any store bought filler I have tried!
  16. I am going to tackle the '69 Shelby. The front valence does seem to be too wide, but after clamping it in place, it seems to take on a slight downward bow which I think will be fine. I will have to remake the side marker lights as they got in the way of filling and sanding the seam, and they were pretty faint anyway. I built up the inside with some sprue glue, and am debating whether to try to recreate the body line that travels down the length of the car. The rear valence connection also needs some filling.
  17. Started a new thread on the workbench.
  18. I like that setup!
  19. Here is my home made one. It is a piece of 1x4 wood with some coat hanger chunks bent and fastened on. The holes make it easier to hang on to.
  20. Now that is a the kinda stuff I like to rig up...Great Idea! Consider it stolen.
  21. I bought one of those too and it works great! I used to shake all my paints to mix them and now I can't get the lids off of a couple of them. The mixer eliminates this problem!
  22. I went to see the movie Ford vs Ferrari last night and picked these two up this morning. Further discussion about the movie here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/130138-ford-vs-ferrari-film/
  23. I went to see this movie last night with a buddy. We both liked it a lot and thought it was well done. Lots of exhilarating driving sequences. I am not a die hard racing fan, so I cannot say how historically accurate it is!
