EXCESSIVE PRICE INCREASES.
Jeff Johnston replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If I could find any new Revell kit for 19 buck's I'd not be complaining. It's the 24.95 that I complain about. The Revell 68 Mustang, and every other newer release is $24.95 where i am. I have not boycotted (its silly to think that's even possible for me). But it has meant that I haven't bought at least 4 kits, just because I had to ask myself... "at 25 bucks, do I really need that"....the answer was no. 68 Stang. I already have an AMT 67 unbuilt. 70 Challenger. I already have an old AMT 70 Challenger convertible New GT 500. The boxart lost me before the price. But i already have a couple 06 Stangs, and parts to build a Parnelli. Hurtz Shelby. Same So I will be more picky. 2 years ago we were paying 17 bucks...and $25 is just about 5 over my mental line of an impulse buy. -

It's just......gone
Jeff Johnston replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't force it Billy. If you don't have the itch to build, then you don't. Something will hit you, and you'll want to build it. I am in a little bit of a lul too. Somehting will hit you in time...no rush Or...you can do what Lyle said ... which made me laugh coffee out my nose LOL LOL Hang in there buddy ! -
The Utlimate Hobby Shop
Jeff Johnston replied to 93Z34's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Scott I'd do the same thing. Every time I go by the old closed Grocery store (moved) or the closed Woolworths, I think of exactly that....an indoor RC and a big indoor slot car track... Places to paint models..paint booths, etc. ... a huge train section for the train guys. It's be a real hobby shop and a place where folks could race RC and Slot cars... I had also thought of the weekly build night...where folks came in to build and bull. It'd be huge. and if I won the lottery, and were a multi ba-jillionaire... it would not even have to make money Unfortunately...businesses need to make money, and less ans less hobby shops are. -
1982-92 Camaro
Jeff Johnston replied to Roadkill2525's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am a fan. This is the basic builder lit... and a repainted 1/16 Diecast I actually gave both to my uncle as they represented his 1:1 car. -

Model Master ACYL
Jeff Johnston replied to tuffone20's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I paint my small parts and engines almost exclusively with Testors Acryl. I have no issues at all. Though I have to say this...Solid colors are great. The metallics like Silver and steel are not good. They do not cover. But the solids like the blacks, engine colors and the like go on great with the brush and usually do not leave brush marks. -
I totally stole this idea form Steve Salhany. I saw his STS at Classic Plastic in October, and I had to do one too. This is painted with Finger nail polish, and the wheels are XS tuning wheels "Aldcladded". Tires are out of the 06 Mustang kit. I painted the woodgrain ald cleared it with Tamiya acrylic clear. This was a fun kit. I glued all of the door panels and trunk shut (sissor doors too funky for me). What I like so much about what inspied me to do this is that it was that it's a kit that I would not have given a second glance, had I not seen Steve's sitting on the table.

THAT'S NOT A MODEL.....It's an invention. Absolutely incredible.

WHY DO YOU BUILD MODEL CARS?
Jeff Johnston replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never really thought about it, but i have to say that I cannot sum up my reason any better than CAl already did... I also love cars, and I like to build stuff. Though I guess I also have what some would call a creative side. So the combination of the underlying need to do something creative, with the fact that I love cars, and love to build stuff is why I do it. I also like the sense of accomplishment...starting and finishing something. -
Can soeone tell me how big of a difference there is (buildability, fit, overall finished look, etc) between the Fujimi and Protar Ferrari 250 GTO ? The reason I ask is that I have the opportunity to get the Protar for about 25 bucks, compared to the Fujimi at closer to 60. Is there really that big of a difference between them ? Is the Fujimi that good ? Also, are the Protar opening panels designed so they actually work ? most kits with opening panels never close properly...I actually like the opening panels, if they work. Any info or advice you have would be appreciated.... I recall building the Testors version back in the 80's...as I recall it was good, but also pretty scarce now.

Chris. The color is Autumn Gold Metallic from MCW. It is a factory color..a 70 color if I recall.

Chris I probably bought them a few years ago. Regarding Arrowhead...It now takes me 4-5 months to get an order filled, but I am ok with that. The thing is this; Duane has cancer. The last I knew, he was going through a tough bout. He is one of the nicest guys in the hobby, and does not deserve it (nobody does really..)....so while you may be somewhat right to advise people to proceed with caution, I think-thought you might be interested to know the rest of the story. I'll say this. The last time I ordered, it took about 4 months. But I DID receive them, and I ALWAYS do get what I order, even if it takes a bit longer than it used to.

Hey Greg. The wheels are resin from the Modelhaus, and I got the COPO caps from Duane Drew at Arrowhead Aluminum Accessories. I alcladded them, as they come unplated. I need top order another set from him. Modelhaus also makes an already plated set of COPO caps. I like the unplated caps because I think the Alclad chrome more represents the brighntess of the 1:1 caps..they were highly polished, but not "bumper chrome" if you know what I mean.

If the X-19 were Japanese it probably would have been more reliable. The X1/9 was an Italian car...

I also have a yellow one, unbuilt....I do plan to build that as well one day. I'd take the green one off your hanbs depending on what you would want for it.

This one started out as Lime Green too !
