Hey Izzy. It's the Fujimi Curbside kit with the Testors Spyder body. Steve I agree...the point was to just build this one. I was going to build it for the "just build sometihng day", but I got behind and was late...sometimes you just gotta throw something together eh ? LOL

Just one more opiion on how great that build looks. I just picked one up myself. I particularly like the fact that you re-did the wheels to the correct "non chrome". Trans Am's sat exactly like that, you your stance is perfect.

"Holy Grail" Models?
Jeff Johnston replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am not sure if this fits the "Rare" catergory...expenxive yes, but not sure they are rare (they do come across ebay regularly). AMT 67 Galaxie. I actually have an unbuilt one. AMT 68 Galaxie. AMT 66-69 Ford Falcon These are rare and expensive... Bandia 1/20- Fiat X 1/9. These are rare. I have 2 (LOL). One built one unbuilt. Though I think my new "real grail" is that VW Fastback posted abnove...I never knew one existed. I guess one that rare defines the true meaning of Grail LOL -
Bill Geary I could use your help on this 1
Jeff Johnston replied to B.Beachum's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Hey nice project lol !!!! I did the same and let me shed the mistakes I made..I hope this helps. First, as Bill said, the doors swing out. This is pretty much evident when you look at the reference pics. I also use Ebay cars for reference material. Here is the mistake(s) I made. The hinge is tricky. This is because of the curvature of the body. I made the mistake of mounting the hinge directly to the body. This created a "butterfly affect" where the door does not swing out level. You will need to build the lower hinge out from the body so that the door swings level (or in depending on how you see it ). . I also had to futz with the jambs because I made them a little too thick. You also will need to add an arm rest, as the kit is missing one. After I mounted the body, the door panel bumped against the seat..so I had to carefully get them off and grind the jambs down a bit... Here is what I ended up with. You can see the door does not hang level. Though it does shut level LOL Here is a better look at the door...The drivers side is the even worse (hence my pics fomr the passenger side "DOH*)...looks like it sags. If you look through you can see the drivers door sags worse. I intend to do another one someday...with correct hinges. Another with door closed. -
1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 Conv'rt(Color is on!)03-03-07
Jeff Johnston replied to Mj-Styro's topic in WIP: Model Cars
OOh nice...and its green. You know me and my love for old green fords LOL -
Thanks Guys. Marc. I used the street machine hood, and ground down the "lip" around the blower opening. Then I cut a piece of sheet styrene to teh shape of the "hole", after which I put some bondo on it and sanded smooth (and primed and painted). Jeff

Here are some pictures of the Malibu I am working on. Started as the 1/24 Revell-Monogram hardtop kit.

AMT v. Revell
Jeff Johnston replied to sno_man80's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't nessesarily think it's Revell vs. AMT. Though as a general statement, I think revell has it over AMT. Meaning, I think that there are generally more "good" Revell kits than there are "good" AMT kits. The Revell 65 Fastback is the old Monogram kit, as is anything else 1:24 scale from Revell. If you want to see-build a great AMT kit, pick up the 67 Fastback. The only thing I had to do is adjust the front chassis so the front wheels tucked properly under the car (they stick out in front to much without some modificaiton..). But I think you will find that the AMT 67 is as good, and likely better than the Revell 65. I also don't care about scale. If I like the car I build it. -
Here is my list... 67 Galaxie - fastback and convertible 68 Galaxie fastback 66-69 Falcon (any year of that body style) 62 Cadillac coupe deville (full detail - not 80 dollar resin) 68 Chevelle re-release of the Revell Porsche 914 re-release of the Babdia 1/20 Fiat X 1/9 74 or 75 Firebird 69-70 Pontiac Grand Prix 73 Chevelle 68 Buick Skylark Saturn Sky

New guy with paint questions
Jeff Johnston replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Monty I have the same "Gripe". Here is what I did. I took a bottle of the Testors Acryl Ford/GM Engine Blue...which is clearly too dark. I emptied half the bottle into an empty bottle, and then started to add testors acrylic gloss white until it was the correct blue I was looking for. Here is what I ended up with. -
WOW that is one of the best ones I've seen yet ! That is one SCHU-WEEET Mustang !
-
Thanks for the nice words guys. Bill..you showed me how to do the doors via email LOL So I thank you for shaing your techniques with me so freely. Antonio, yes this is the Wal Mart - Revell Kit.

Drill Bit Sizes
Jeff Johnston replied to Harvezter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I bought 2 sets form this guy on ebay called Mr. Leggs. Here is a link, and they are cheap (you get 2 sets). They are a little soft, but wirth the money. I like the harder metal bits, but like I said for the price you can't beat it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...s_promot_widget -
OOH Very Nice JOhn ! Very nice !

When do you have enough kits ?
Jeff Johnston replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Every time I see this kind of post I am still very interested in seeing the responses. One person's "too many" is so diferent than another LOL. I have about 40 unbuilt kits in boxes. Some unopened, some opened, some painted...I also have probably another half dozen resoration kits to do. And...I actually have a plan for each and every one. There are probably 2 I will not build. The rest I will. So for me, any more kits is too many. As soon as I finish one, I'll buy another one. But for me this is enough...40 is enough. I build maybe 7 or 8 kits per year...so what I have will last 5 years...in theory. I guess I'll always have 40 or 50 unbuilt kits. -
not that most really care, but for those that.....
Jeff Johnston replied to Jeff Sauber's topic in WIP: Model Cars
