Dennis Thank you for the kind words it makes the time and effort all worth while. Mark thank you, and yes when looked at as a finished model it is a large task, but if you break it down to individual items it just becomes a series of small models, each one completed, in turn and then assembled. So instead of only finishing one model since last November, I finished dozens and dozens and they just happened to go together at the end.

Nostalgia Fuel Dragster--Blower Manifold (01/28/23)
Ian McLaren replied to Straightliner59's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Great progress, I really like how the engine turning on the cowl turned out, how was it done I was never able to get it correct. -
Imagine my suprise while I was researching Small Block Chevy Junior Fuelers and this pops up, I was thinking of a use for the small block from the Camaro and I remembered a friends Junior Fueler from long ago and thought another 1/12 project might be fun but a lot less complicated. As usual you have produced a bench mark model and I like it a lot!

I have heard it said it takes a village to raise a child. I would argue that that the same holds true for building a model, as I will illustrate in this post. The number of people and organizations involved with this model is a case in point. In no particular order Jeff Faris who designed and machined the front and rear wheels and rear slicks to specifically fit this vehile with the A/M rear end I was using. Nick Bradshaw who basically saved the concept of this model with his NOS fogger nozzels,NOS tanks and mounting stand and those fantastic Morosso valve covers. Speaking of fantastic parts the guys at LPH1320 hit it out of the park with 1/12th BBC and mind blowing 1/12th scale Dominator carbs. Slick Rides, Wayde Leslie Ron Conacor all were a great help when it came to advise in painting this thing. Critical advise also came fromt Bob Mandel (chassis), Daniel Himmel (general modeling tips and advise), Marcos Fernandes (alternate approaches to issues) as his project was a very similar style of model. RB Motion forfittings that look exactly like the real thing. Local racers Tom and Cathy Meheden and Charles Marsh both allowed me access to their nationally competative cars coupled with advise and explanations of how things are done on the real thing. Ron OLsen was also critical to me finishing this project with first his printed parts(grill, transmission, door frames and the rear differential) and then mentoring my taking the plunge into 3D printing. I also want to mention Tim Fink who over the past few years has been my sounding board when my confidence or common sense has left the building. Finally it's everyone who looks at,likes or comments on our posts that especially, on a long project supply the motivation to continue to completion. Some say that modeling is a solitary hobby but I think it is anything but. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!

Thank you very much John, here is the same hood after additional clear and sanded with 3000 grit and first polish, the rest of the car has been recleared and is sitting to cure the paint for a light sand and polish. Also inner door panels ready to go on. It's getting very close MVI_0063[1].MOV

This is as close as I can get to the answer, it is believed that the dark panel was done in code Q Dark Red to keep all of the paint OE correct. I'm waiting on a second source for confirmation but no reply as of yet.

Nostalgia Fuel Dragster--Blower Manifold (01/28/23)

Looking great Daniel, I'm loving the paint. just one thing the twisted beading wire is going to look a lot like braided line, with is an absolute no no in fire systems ( the teflon liner in the hose melts causing the system to stop working. All fire systems have to use hard line. That being said at .010 it's going to be hard to tell but you have put so much effort into getting all of the details spot on . -
Sitting with the final stripe attached and allowing the Pearl clear to cure so it can be color sanded for the final clear coat, then final assembly with windows and the rest of the exteriour parts(rear bumper, parachutes, cables, etc) getting very close

1/16th Scale Top Fuel Dragster Eddie Hill 4:99
Ian McLaren posted a topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Started this one over a year ago before we moved, found the chassis in a box a few weeks ago, made some changes to incorpperate the 13 inch front tires that were in vogue for a while. In as much as I'm not terribily familiar with the Top Fuel cars of this era, I'm going for a representation of Eddie Hills First in the Fours Super Shops sponsored car to try out some new techniques. This is the chassis as I rediscovered it,with added 3D printed wheels befor the decision to go to the short front tire style Started on fabricationg the body, partially done and on chassis, and where it is now with the body contours roughed out still more to do on the nose but that depends on the the front wing mounting. I should have a definitive answer in a couple of days concerning the correct maroon.
-
I believe the car was Dafodil Yellow from the factory, Code R, in Plymouth just Yellow. The color in the insert I'm not sure about but I may be able to find out through some contacts here in Calgary.

Getting down to the final detail items. Master electrical cut off switch actuating rod and guide assy plus the left tail lamp assy.

Thanks Marcos, Yes the stripes are on the other hood now, it took a good portion of yesterday to mask everything, especially under the front of the scoop keeping the lines straight. I had one minor masking issue, but it was on the deck lid and was a simple repair. As far as paint goes only a couple of decals need to be installed ( I designed them last night) and put the clear on (no more masking) and then polish.

Looks great Marcos, you have done an excellent job on this model, my hat is off to you! I just noticed you have Pearl Clear over the base colors, I just tried that today as I've had the can for quite a while, and I really like the effect. I also have some original Murano Pearl I used on the Banzai Vega Panel that was used to paint the original car back in the 70's. It seems to be a finer powder and a silver pearl and sprays quite well from my airbrush when the clear is highly diluted, Easy to get even coverage but also useful for highlighting body lines. Regardless pearl clear of one kind or another is going to remain the way forward.
-
Found the finish, Mica Silver, gloss black stripes overcoated with Pearl Clear. This is the test hood not polished, but I am super happy with the effect. The pearl in the close ups makes the finish look rough on the test hood but it isn't, it could stand to be polished though to bring out some additional shine. From a distance the stripes still look black, the effect is quite subtle except in bright sunshine MVI_0120.MOV

Just WOW!!! -
Thanks Daniel, yes the Candy Orange just didn't pan out and it also comes with so many ways to go sideways on a large area such as this. I have so much time invested in this build I'm not sure I'm up for the risk, but truly this particular Silver just seemed to enhance the feel of the model so much I just have to go with it. That said, while playing around with the candies I did stumble on a combination that will certainly show up on another planned model in the not too distant future.

Thank you Edgar, I have put quite a bit of research into this one and I'm fairly pleased that it has turned out close to what I was aiming for so far, but there is still quite a bit to finalize yet.
