Revell 1/24 Jaguar gift set (E-type Coupé and XKSS)
Ulf replied to 1959scudetto's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Jaguar spirit, we had a wreck, everyone smiled, waved and let us through then my wife gave me a Porsche and all the nice fellow drivers disappeared the moment I suddenly sat a foot lower. Everyone loves Jaguars. -
Model Car Muse with Doug Whyte
Ulf replied to OldNYJim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now I've seen the latest episode of Model Car Muse, good as usual, a highlight Saturdays every other week. It's surgeon level model building really but always with the encouragement not to forget to have fun. BTW, I watch all the Donn Yost videos too, really good and a bit different angle. What they have in common is that, like good writers, they follow their formula, their person. -

Nice, I'm going to try to get my hands on a pair of those marvelous late Halibrand solid face magnesium wheels for my 34s rear wheels. Thanks for the point about colours, Tim Boyd mentioned it in an SAE article, they certainly didn't have the same wide range of colours, I guess even the pigments evolved a bit over time. -
Hi After reading the forum for a couple of years and writing a few posts I have now started a project in Community Builds, Race of Gentlemen presents... California Drag Racing 2023 Build Thread I have been building plastic models off and on for 50 years, they have always been in the back of my mind but for a long time there hasn't been time. Now and in the future there always will be. I guess I differ from many here in that I never save any finished models, the process is always most important to me, the result is uninteresting as soon as it is finished. Anyway, now I'm working on a generic diorama that will fit all the cars I build, so they'll have to sit in a display case for a while waiting for the next car to be finished. Now I'm building the AMT Ford 34 and waiting for spring when we go to the summer house where I airbrush and build on the cars I didn't finish this summer. EDIT: I’m a AMT-fanboy. All The Best

My Class of 2022. . . . . . . I completed 7 for the year.

Very nice, the red Thunderbird is a like replica of my former colleague's. Quite right not to have fenderskirts for those rims because they don't fit on the 1:1 cars. -

Wonderful build, detailing, weathering and the base as they say makes the sum greater than the parts. -
A challenging project. I've been taking a break from armor models for a few years now, but last Wednesday I took a day off to look at this one. A chance for ones in a lifetime. There are also a few models in the museum, including a scratch(metal) built 1/8 King Tiger and train car. It has to be one of the most accomplished projects in the hobby world. This is a 1:1 diorama… I repeat The yellow King Tiger is real 1:1. The camouflage painted King Tiger is a 1:8 model. The overturned truck is real 1:1.? I will be following your King Tiger build going forward, maybe it will be a relapse for me. You have the best reference books without a doubt.

Looking good ! Boat tail hot rods / boat tail sports cars are great. Sports Car Hot Rods are even greater. The overhang is my choice, it make sence. -

Thanks, nice to stand out a bit. My idea with this build is contrasts, 32 grill shell on 34, expensive rims in the rear(magnesium), cheap in the front(30's spoke), a bit of disharmony basen on avilable parts simply for a car hopscotched into the present day of parts. Not a period perfect replica but more of an unrenovated frame and body from an old hot rod build top chopped with gas welding once upon a time. The goal however is not a rat rod but more "this is how it turned out with what I had on hand". The parts you see behind your friends' garage and then dream about. -

I cut a profile from the 32 grill shell, glued it to the front edge of the 34 hood and filed the shape as best I could. If it doesn't come out acceptably flush, I'll have to remove the pressings on the sides and paint it aluminum because those hoods on race cars are rarely perfect. -
I have made my own stud of bolt nuts some plasticard and an AMT tire to be able to grind and paint rims. It went pretty well "turning" the Moon caps, two out of four had sink marks, the primer will tell the truth.

It's not every night you scrap a hot rod but if the purpose is good then it's ok. The purpose this time was to use AMTs1925 Ford T Chopped No. 1167 to get parts together for the TROG build. After I ransacked the box for reasonably time correct parts, there are parts for a bucket T with a little good will. I am really grateful for Round2 because I remember an afternoon in the 90's trying to buy a styrene bucket T body from a major builder but that is a story that will go in my memoirs and in that case they will have to be written under a pseudonym. Off and on during 2022 I built a generic diorama with a billboard, my idea of a faded evangelical message won no conviction at home as I figured this would be space for one car at a time in the only suitable glass cabinet in the livingroom. The faded message idea will have to rest for a while and the billboard will advertise TROG. The rims at the rear are for mock up, at the front I might have Moon caps on the outside so you can see the spokes on the inside and the pink stain on the door is the intended color added to the picture(not on the body yet). -
Thans When you read about Lill John's construction as an adult 45 years later, you realise how incredibly ahead of his time he was. You also see the impact he (and the few peers) has have on premium car design.

Thank you, that was kind, it was instructive and next time if there is a next time I better know to be sickly careful when I cut the roof. My TROG is going to be a dented and welded body painted with no underwork. I will take some shortcuts, I have ordered AMT chopped T as a donor. Rims, Moon discs, seats, headers, Halibrand axle etc. I hope it arrives before the weekend. Edit: I got an email from the hobby shop this morning, I won't rush straight to the office ? -
Has anyone seen Lil' John Buttera's sketches of how he modified the body of his roadster, I think they were featured in HRM in the 80's. I remember as a teenager being shocked at the work he put into modifying the body, it was already finished as it was in my eyes...

The process is progressing slowly, maybe I will have to glue the hood and the grille shell together to be able to grind out the shape ? -
Thank you, exactly. I bought that magazine april 1982 when we went to my mother's cousin's house for the annual lunch, I could figure out what year and month it was because I remembered it was his 40th birthday. The nova with the 6 has been in my head ever since. Many thanks, I am truly grateful. Hopefully I will return with a build in WIP or UG.

I can’t get access, overseas ?? Is there any one at the forum who can help me and publish the 6-cyl Nova from Hot Rod Automotive Magazine Mar 1982 Vol 35 No 3 I want to build a tribute.

This build will be 75% AMT, 15% Revell and 10% Tamiya (the putty). The Sea 'N’ Sun Special looks good.
