Does Super Clean Wear Out, or Weaken?
Bullybeef replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I’ve stripped about a dozen rebuilders in the same batch of super clean over the past month, some were rapid, some had to “bake” a little longer, I keep it in a sealed tub under the kitchen sink, so it’s always the same temperature. one thing I have done is to strain it with cheap coffee filters, over one of those cheapo fine mesh strainers from the dolla store, mostly so that I can find the parts easier of find the small ones that I may have missed. I do have a smaller container that I use for smaller parts like engines and the like. the rubber seals help keep the odour down and so far the wifey has not complained ?? -

Thank you, It wasn’t as difficult as I had thought, your step by step process helped a lot! I know mine looks a bit rough, but I’m pleased with my results.

Let’s throw back to a sixties hot rod! Chopped channeled, louvers, roll pan, bobbed fenders, a hot flathead! Well after following a thread by @Kit Karson I completed my first top chop on a five window coupe, and then in my usual fashion I browsed the interwebs til I found a car to emulate. I’ll see of I can get this pile of plastic to look good. So far all I’ve used are leftovers and parts from my rebuilder pile!

Well it’s a good start, where are you at with it?

Well with a skim coat of primer it shows a little fine sanding to do, overall I’m pretty pleased with the results so far.

Wow that’s so clean, impressive bodywork

Interested in this build as well, my friend has a sealed kit in his collection, might have to wrangle it away from him!

I want another 3 window body to chop now
-
Thank you, it’s my first real body job on a model, I’ve usually left them alone. I’m hoping that this learning experience will be fruitful! I have a 32 5 window body in the wings and with the recent posting by @Kit Karson I’ll be attempting my first chop tomorrow. I’ve learned so much just browsing the forums, it’s great here!!

And now some body filler to fix some small gaps, it’s on there kinda thick, hard to be detailed with a spatula made from a bamboo skewer.

Much appreciated, I’ll be waiting for the arrival, hopefully now that the silly season is over it will arrive in a reasonable time

@Kit Karson thank you, I’ll add one to my list of required tools! -

Whipped up my very first batch of sprue glue last night, used tamiya extra thin and a combination of white and clear sprue trees. Did a fair amount of google research and followed some simple advice, wash the sprue to remove any mold release! I only used it from the inside of the shell as I wasn’t sure how it would work, and this morning I’m thrilled, this is solid!

Thank you for posting this, I have a couple of extra 5 window bodies, now I can practice on one, you pictured a couple of different razor saws, are they different tpi or just different heights? -
Dennis, Matt and I have history in the vw world, when he switched over to hot rods, I stayed true to my roots, but after binge watching his channel while I was on med leave, I decided to emulate his passion for old steel, but in plastic form. And I’ve always had a thing for the 32 and 33 fords. Being that this was the first time I’ve attempted slicing and joining bodies, I guess I took the hard way instead of the easy way. Well we will see how it works out.
