detail Pet peeve of mine!
Jon Cole replied to Mercuryman54's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Steve, just got to say... what a stunning Ford! Is this built from old stock, or a roof from the '60 added to the '61 sedan? -
Sorry, Not in my book
Jon Cole replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What amazes me, is how often we hear or read someone that sees a parked car that appears on its frame, but seems totally oblivious to the concept of airbags. While technically possible, they are not driving around that low. As in, grounded. Although there are many, mostly young people, who are driving around in "slammed" cars, a.k.a. "tuners", who seem to love demonstrating how eager they are to smash their oil pan open with their too low cars. I see that crowd as a different genre to the low street rods. -
Thanks for explaining.

Wait- are they now clearcoating the patina? If so, what's the point of the patina? -

Another stunning work, Chuck. I have a sectioned, unfinished Hudson in my room, thinking of doing a chop. When you modify the windshield, do you trim from the top, or bottom of the glass? You seem to have nailed the color for the air filter. What color is that? Keep building!

Of course, every coin has two sides. Offering an opinion should be good, as long as it's not a diss aimed at an individual. -

You win the internet for today. I am but a so so builder, who feels my age is starting to affect the quality of my builds. Who am I to criticize other's work? Plus, it is rarely taken well. -

Nice! Do you have any more pics?

I think someone- maybe Jimmy Flintstone- casts this as a resin body. Yes? -
You can get a custom mixed can of spray paint from any quality automotive jobber for about $25. Just have to provide them with a paint code.

Not doing the museum truck, as I would have had to fabricate a center mounted cage and driver position. It seems like every photo I saw, was different in some way. So I am just going for an early career build. Not so early that it would still have the glass.

What did you see on the road today?
Jon Cole replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw a Maserati SUV. I didn't even know they had an SUV. -
I am sorry to see you go. This has been happening on social media sites, and now it happens here. Hopefully, if you do come back, we will all be here.

Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
Jon Cole replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So, is the new owner "Blitz", or "Quantum Capital Partners"? I notice the press release from Revell has no mention of the previously mentioned "Blitz" name. -
Forgot to add my last pic. And... it would not accept an edit! LoL! Even my posts fail LoL! So here, again... When I put it back together, I made a spacer instead of risking having the tailgate in the way. Used the rubber band method to hold it snug while the epoxy set. Progress is still slow. I will need to do a lot of touch up as it comes together.

Updates: Had to trim down the door hinge at the top & bottom where it attaches to the body. More clearance issues for the door hinges at the floor. Cuttin' & chopping. I handled everything so much, I had to repaint or touch up the floor pan. Not my finest job. I found out the hard way that the chassis / floor will fit into the body much easier without the rear pan in place. Pried it out, broke a mount tab in the process. So grind out the broke tab, fab & glue on new tab. Yes, I have resorted to taping memos on my cutting mat. When I put it back together, I made a spacer instead of risking having the tailgate in the way. Used the rubber band method to hold it snug while the epoxy set. Progress is still slow. what level of shine paint for vinyl seats
Jon Cole replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
What Steve said. When I see glossy seats, I think the builder is not aware of Dullcote. Glossy seats make a model look toy like. "Shiny vinyl" is model buildings equivalent of 'overthinking it'. Just my humble opinion. -
"They were just Edsels". Like any late 50's American full size car, the Edsel certainly had hop up potential.

If it helps, you can always sleeve a thinner rod of plastic or metal in the next size up diameter hollow plastic tube. I like to keep a wide variety of rods and tubes on hand. So versatile.
-
The plastic rod that afx is referring to, is sold in any well stocked hobby shop. Available in different diameters from brands like Evergreen. Do you have any hobby shops nearby? Also found assortments on Ebay.

What else besides chrome markers?
Jon Cole replied to Jon Cole's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have wasted so much on gel pens over the years. They just don't function. Nothing I do can get them to leave a mark, be it on plastic, or paper. The silver Sharpie markers are ink, not paint. I find them to not cover well. Very translucent. For chrome, nothing seems to top the Molotow Chrome pen. The fine point paint marker shown at the top looks interesting.
