  1. Thanks for the help fellows. Just sprayed the Gloss on the body. I'll wax it this afternoon.
  2. Thanks for the info Dave. Primer went down smooth and so did the acrylic paint. Maybe I'm expecting to much out of this acrylic paint.
  3. Thanks man. I've got the color on the body now. I have all the parts covered with boxes to keep any dust or bugs out of the paint.
  4. Pete, thanks for the explanation. Makes a lot of since. What grit should I start with and after wet sanding the color do I just rinse the body off and let it dry and then shoot the gloss clear?
  5. I got the body primed this morning with no issues and looking good so far. I'm trying to repeat the process I did yesterday on the spoon test.
  6. Mike you could be right. Didn't even know you had to sand the color coat. Guess that's why I'm asking.
  7. First time wet sanding so looking for advise. I painted a couple spoons the other day with a couple coats of Rust-Oleum Flat Black, then 5 coats of Anita's Glossy Black Acrylic paint, then shot 5 coats of Rust-Oleum Cear Gloss over that. I wet sanded this morning using 2000, 4000, 8000, 12000 grit sand paper then rubbed it down with some Meguiar's Liquid wax. Does it look there is still some orange peel in the paint? Did I not wet sand enough?
  8. Always love the Gassers and your looks great. I'm looking at getting a 41 Willys to build really soon.
  9. I always like the Gassers since I grew up watching them race in the 60;s.
  10. Good lookin build. I like the color.
  11. Turned out pretty kewl looking.
  12. Welcome. From the look of your nice painting skills it looks like you've done this a time or two.
  13. Mike, I'm going to try and paint my Chevelle this afternoon weather permitting and if my paint comes out close to yours I'd be satisfied at this stage of the game. I see your from middle Tennessee, My son lives in Franklin?
  14. Coming along pretty nice there Dennis.
  15. Yeah that option for the Willy's would be nice. The old gassers in kit or about like the real gassers.....just fading away. The Henry J gassers were pretty kewl. The Big John Mazmanian AUSTIN GASSER “FOOTBALL” would be a pretty nice kit for Revell to come out with.
  16. I think your right Guido. Use to love seeing Stone woods & Cook go up against Big Jon Mazmanian. Two of the best.
  17. Thanks for the info guys. Always learning.
  18. So that Black Willys of yours was not wet sanded??? Man it looks good for just a polish job. Can't see any orange peel. I have some NOVUS 2 I was going to try after wet sanding then polish is with Meguiar's Ultimate liquid wax.
  19. Yup. I think the one I'm shooting for is the 41 Drag Coupe "Big John Mazmanian" kit.
  20. I think I put 3 light coats and let it flash 2 or 3 min then the last 2 coats I sprayed one after the other pretty heavy. It looks pretty slick with not much orange peel.
  21. Dang dude it looks sharp. Can't wait to get the 41 kit. I just don't think at this point I'm good enough and I don't want to do the kit any injustices. Still need to hone my craft. The painting is my nemesis but I'm working on it.
  22. I did the spoon test today on the Anita's Glossy Black Arcylic paint I bought the other day at HL. I primed a couple spoons with Rust-Oleum 2X Flat Black primer and let them set for about an hour. I first started out with a couple light coats of the Glossy Black letting the paint flash between coats and worked my way up to 6 coats with the last 2 coats being pretty heavy. I let the spoons set for an hour. I then sprayed the spoons with 5 coats of Rust-Oleum 2X Gloss Clear because I had it on hand and couldn't wait for the Pledge I ordered to come in. I see no reaction to the paint and I think it came out pretty good and it hasn't even been wet sanded yet. That's something else new to me so I'll give it a try tomorrow. I have some 1000 up to 12000 grit. Any tips on wet sanding for the first time?
  23. I did a search and came up empty. Is there anything that can be done with the clear plastic headlights? Anything you guys are doing to make them stand out?
