T41 Bugatti sport coupe
Pierre Rivard replied to charlie libby's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Looking good Mr. Libby. Primer day is always a big event. Make up the list of areas needing some surface finessing but mostly start envisioning beautiful color and shine. The home stretch. -
Recommendations For Iphone Photography?
Pierre Rivard replied to oldcarfan's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
My setup is quite similar to your's Bill. I too have switched the incandescent bulb to LED. I recently purchases a set of Ecosmart LED bulbs at Home Depot. 14 W (equivalent approx 100W incandescent) with an interesting feature, an integrated switch allowing setting temperature of 2700, 3000, 3500, 4000 or 5000K. Quite useful so I thought it would be good to share. So far ma settings tend to be 3500 or 4000. -
Mercedes Benz SSK
Pierre Rivard replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
That would be cool and a good fit for the Johan coupe kit. I'm always looking for something different to try. Never done a salt flats car. But first this SSK road racer... Yes Cliff, please post the engine pics. Timely because that's what I plan to start with. The Dorothy Paget SSK looks stunning. Not as sexy as the Alfa 33, but variety is the spice of life! Thanks Noel, and if you have good ideas for this one please share, I'm still quite undecided about this one. Thanks Gary. I don't have a firm path for this one, if you got any ideas... -

Thank you so much Francis. There are limitations from working mainly with styrene, putty and paint brushes but I try to maximise the results and very much enjoy the challenge. -
Lancia Stratos (rebound build)
Pierre Rivard replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Thank you Larry, support much appreciated Exact sir, no engine on this one. Engines are not easy to do well and I won't avoid the task with the SSK. Thank you Chris It is a Hasegawa, purchased recently at the local hobby store, so perhaps a newer release. I picked this one for the simpler decal scheme. Thank you Ken. Easy compared to the decals on my last build, and excellent quality. -
Lancia Stratos (rebound build)
Pierre Rivard replied to Pierre Rivard's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
I'd love to see one to. Closest I got was a Fiat X1/9. Same designer, looks fast, goes slow...😀 Thanks Mathias Thank you sir A fairly simple but eye pleasing graphic design but pretty easy to do. I would have done the chassis Alitalia theme but scared to try. Indeed sir. My first Hasegawa and I would say it refreshed me about the same way a Tamiya would. Now ready to take on something a little more demanding. I know my friend, this is not my usual modus operandi. I'm back, just starting something new..and old. About this kit. It is a lovely kit and it builds very much like a good Tamiya. The only notable challenge is mating the chassis to body requires to spread the body very wide (the body sides curve in so much). I tested it a few times before painting everything and also glued the glass only at the top edge to avoid stressing it while spreading the body sides. -
Gorgeous Packard. The paint looks rich and you've found the way to make the wire wheels look very realistic. These vintage Monogram kits are really nice.

And when you are both patient and skilled you can do stuff like your's Mr. Himmel.

The formidable Mercedes Benz SSK. The last Mercedes engineered by Ferdinand Porsche was produced from 1928 to 1932. Only 33-37 were built and more than half of them went racing. The car is most famous in it's SSKL (for Super Sport Short Light) guise winning the 1931 Mille Miglia. There were some variations on the body configuration (mostly fender treatment), mainly a Touring & Sport styles and sometimes a combination of elements from both. I plan to do a racing version of this car (as many of them were) but the body configuration is open for discussion. Suggestions from forum members are most welcome. The starting point is the old Lindberg kit but I aim for a more "racy and somber" look. So nothing started yet, at this point showing some possibilities and accepting input from other builders.

A challenging build, just like a challenging relationship can take it's toll. So after the head scratcher BMW 3.5csl I needed something smooth and easy, something Out of Box. Call it a rebound build? Hasegawa provided the perfect remedy, the lovely Lancia Stratos kit. I built it without a single change, I even followed the instructions...

I think we lost oldcarfan. While we're spinning around he just moved on... -

Aah, a good check list. You only need that when scratch building or extensive modifications. I miss that already. Doing a OOB build and bored to death... Love your dedication to this chassis my friend. It's great. -
It's definitely a new world with CAD design and 3D printing capabilities but when I look at the engine compartment I am floored by the level of realism accomplished by your impeccable painting, weathering and detailing. So it is the best of both worlds: artistry combined with new fabrication technologies. Simply superb.

Indeed the Nostalgia Dragster is unbelievable. I could look at it a thousand times and still find delightful details to wonder at. You are a perfectionist and that will come with the occasional doubt and bouts of analysis/paralysis but your current work on Badman shows that you are finding your balance, i.e. accept 98% perfection. Your 98% equals 1098% for us mere mortals. Your stuff is out of this world awesome and concentrated pure pleasure to follow.

Recommendations For Iphone Photography?
Pierre Rivard replied to oldcarfan's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Hi Gary, I have a good digital camera but ended up using my iPhone as I find it makes equally good pictures and has easy to use post processing filters. I have a XR iPhone (similar to your 11). I shoot adjacent to a window plus a lamp with 3000k led bulb as a second angle light source. I usually stand about 18 inches away and zoom in a bit, then use the post processing filters integrated to the iPhone to make finesse adjustments (usually just adding a bit of exposure and contrast). That's my easy setup. Not super sharp but I believe a good method for forum posts. Posting a couple of photos for reference & discussion -
3rd gen Camaro

The front clip on this baby is really great, like the rest of this chassis. Scratchbuilding extraordinaire. Always tricky to choose when to paint the body as we want to minimize handling after that. Oh well.... back to the paint booth. -
Alfa 33 Stradale Chassis No.75033.111
Pierre Rivard replied to Dave B's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
A real beauty Dave and quite refreshing to see it in blue. It seems like everything you build is something I'd like to build, but I don't have a Phil. Still always a pleasure to watch each of your unveilings. Keep them coming sir! -
Beautiful build Kapo. The color you chose is a really good fit for this design. I'm just about to start this one and your's will be a good reference to follow. How did you handle the gauges (there are no decals for them)?
