  1. Congratulations Mark, a beautiful recreation of one of the outrageous and beautiful race cars of the era. I don't know if the Greenwood Corvette inspired the group 5 "silhouette" cars but it sure looks like it.
  2. This is gonna be good. Brick walls?
  3. The heavy lifting of body mods being done, future updates will be less detailed as the rest of the build will be mostly OOB We have color on the body and a clear coat that will rest for awhile before polishing (it needs it...) and decals I built the chassis, which is decent. Thinking it's reasonable availability might make it a good use under resin bodies like the beautiful examples Allan has shown us. I've added a side by side picture with the underside of a Fujimi Ferrari GTO. Not as good but definitely useable. Good wheels and tires are a must if we want to achieve a better level of realism. Going with Jack Modeling 3D printed units developed for the GTO but using the fronts all around as the deeper/wider rears were not yet used in 1960.
  4. I think so too. Jason still has 2 other requests to process before he takes on the outlawed wheels. I'd rather wait than settle for anything else.
  5. Thank you Charlie for following. It is back on track. I'm gonna try to finish this silly Ferrari SWB thing asap and then devote my attention to the SLR. Lots to do!
  6. Looks very promising. True that the research is a big part of the fun.
  7. Thanks Allan. Your Momo 935 has just the right amount of weathering and inspires me to give it a try... but a lot needs to be done before I cross that bridge.
  8. Beautiful beautiful beautiful! You've captured the vibe of these race cars brilliantly. Thanks for sharing.
  9. Back on the road (or track?) with this one. Body repaired and repaired with a lighter shade. Awaiting decals from Indycal. Paint is ok but with some minor flaws...perhaps eventually adding some race weathering would be a good fit for it?
  10. Randy my friend, that's not a pile it's a mountain! šŸ˜€ I'm in contact with Jason and the wheel he is developing should be a good fit. I'll share news as soon as he has the design set and prototypes ready to go. Body on this Maser looks a good match to the space frame...meaning incredible!
  11. Superb work on that powertrain and integrating the whole rear end. Well done sir!
  12. Shawn, I really look forward to seeing your build and hope you will post pictures on the forum. I've done a fair bit of research on these and there is no definite answer since they were hand built with infinite variation in specs or panel fabrication. A total 165 to 175 units were built, about 50-60 aluminium bodied (Competition model) and the rest (Touring) steel bodied with aluminium openings. The AMT model has features most resembling a late 60 or after Touring model (steel body) with the wind up side glass with quarter lights, body venting in the rear of roof, fuel filler on quarter panel and 3 carb engine. The kit has pretty good chassis, engine and interior components but the body is way off, particularly the rear section. At a minimum, for a barn find kind of project I would cut out the trunk opening to hide the bulbous rear end a bit. Good luck, should be a fabulous project. I love barn find weathered cars!
  13. This coupe is taking shape in a fabulous way, rich with beautifully crafted components. At this pace you might end up with some free time before hitting deadline.
  14. Acceptance of 3D printed models is a question I don't ask myself. I don't ask if it's ok to assemble a styrene kit. I don't ask if it's ok to assemble a resin kit. So why would a 3D printed model be an issue? I care about the subject and happy if it is available for me to build, whatever the source of component fabrication. I like putting the kit together and fixing the flaws, scratch building bits and pieces and adding aftermarket parts when I can't make them myself. Wether I can do that starting with a styrene, resin or 3D printed kit is not a question I ask myself. The only acceptance that matters is mine.
  15. Thank you guys for the support. Aborting the project is not in the plans but a little time to regroup is a good idea. Ferrari 250 SWB will get more attention for the next little while.
  16. Congratulations Ken for this beautiful build. The kit may have humble origins but what you have done with it is outstanding. The wheels and dash panel are so creatively crafted. The essence of model building.
  17. Spectacular fabrication. Us mere mortals are into scale modeling. What you do is fabricating the replica like a real car but at a smaller scale. This is so fascinating to watch. Coachbuilder extraordinaire! The wheels are the most beautiful I have ever seen.
  18. Well right now it's painful for me to look at it. My best yet brush painted job was a touch on the dark side and got worse (darker) after I put the clear on. I mistakenly proceeded with decals and just could not bear to look at it. I then dropped the body and one of the fragile rear fenders broke. Sanded off the decals and started repairs. I have to find ways to regain motivation for this one...
  19. That is seriously good model building. Your club application is approved! šŸ¤£
  20. These should keep you busy for a while. You do have a SWB in there as the Breadvan was a re-bodied SWB (chassis 2819GT). The GTO and SWB share chassis as well as the 2400 mm wheelbase. The GTO had more efficient aero than the SWB but they are brothers under the skin.
  21. First mock up with wheels for AMT Ferrari 250 SWB body that has received many mods to fix odd dimensions & proportions. Next step will be to build the chassis to replicate this stance, wheelbase and track. More mock ups will be needed along the way.
  22. Welcome Shawn. Just like you I got a late start (early sixties) and never looked back. This forum is a great way to exchange and learn from each other. I hope we'll soon see some of your work.
  23. Body has been primed. A few areas need some finessing but I am happy with the result. I could not resist doing a little mock up with the after market wheels & tires planned for this project.
  24. I did not know the AMT kit could be made to look so good but I suspect your modifications and upgrades to be quite substantial. I don't know how you did the race weathering but it is very effective and realistic looking.
