Very nice job on this Merc woodie. Did you do the wood grain by brushing oil paint over acrylic tan? I learned to do it using a technique posted on a WWI airplane kit website (here). Airbrushing thinned Tamiya transparent yellow (X-24) or transparent orange (X-26) acrylic over the wood grained area really makes it pop. My only complaint with this Revell kit is the absence of the stock flathead V-8 which is a mystery to me because the rest of the kit is pretty much stock.

Fabulous scale modeling! Really impressed how well you opened the doors and trunk and you were able to get them to look pretty flush with the adjacent body when closed.

Scale Motorsport shutting down
papajohn97 replied to jaymcminn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just grabbed a bunch of upholstery decal sets, $4/ ea!!!! Grab ‘em before they’re gone! Sad to see another model car AM business fold but nice to hear it’s a retirement and not due to health/ owner passing. -
Thank you Trevor. I’ve been building mostly aircraft, ships & AFV’s over the last year and want to get back to adding to my door slammers. I have four of the new Moebius ‘65 Dodge kits in the queue and hope to start them soon. Stay tuned!

Thank you Tom! I posted the ‘65 Sox & Martin A/FX Plymouth here and the Al Eckstrom ‘65 Golden Commando 2% car here.

Beautiful build! I second the motion on the engine detailing!

Your son did a great job on this build. Love the color. Hope he keeps building and posting on here.

Dang that’s nice! Your photos using the garage dio can really fool one’s eyes, if I saw these pics anywhere other than this forum, I would have assumed they were pics of an actual 1:1 El Camino. Great job!

Tamiya 1/24 Nissan 240Z (street custom?)
papajohn97 replied to Bennyg's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I looked over this kit at the Tamiya stand at OrangeCon yesterday and was totally blown away. I’ve considered Tamiya’s 300SL Gull wing to be the best 1/24 auto kit out there over the last few years until I looked this kit over. Unbelievably detailed engine parts (particularly the Weber carbs), separate machined metal velocity stacks, metal transfers, injection molded chromed window trim pieces (no foiling required!)…..WOW! I’m not even that interested in early Z’s but after examining this kit I have to have it! I would have bought one from Tamiya at the show for the $50 retail but they only did display there, no sales. Ordered one from Burbank House of Hobbies last night for $39. Tamiya has hit it out of the park on this one, hoping they continue to put out more classic sports cars (or just about any vehicle subject) with this level of tooling and detail. -
Wow Jeff! You don’t waste any time working on a new release! Very nice job and good to hear this new Moebius kit builds as nice as their Plymouths. I’ve only seen pics online of the “Virginia Twister” as an AWB A990 sedan, did Warren also have an AWB HT like a lot of the teams back then? Looking forward to seeing more of these new ‘65 Dodge kits built and posted soon using some of excellent decal sets out there and hope to build and post a few myself soon (Landy’s, Mr Norm’s supercharged match racer,….). Thanks for posting!

Plymouth Fury Convertible '62 (Jo-Han, 1/25 scale)
papajohn97 replied to Tommy124's topic in Model Cars
Wow! Hard to believe you built this from a kit with +60 year old molds! Beautiful paint, perfect BMF trim, toned-down chrome and black washed grill and wheel covers, everything just about perfect. Did you replace the kit tires and adjust the ride height on this Fury? It just looks so much more realistic (better) than a typical 60’s 1/25 model car kit. Sure wish these molds were still around and I could pick up a ‘62 coupe for cheap, I would love to build an early super stock drag car. I always thought the styling on these ‘62 Mopars was really ugly when I was a kid but now I kinda love their weird lines (probably nostalgia?). -
Hasegawa makes nice car kits. I have the old Aoshima kit in my stash but I may have to pick up one of these to reproduce my first “nice” 1:1 car, a green ‘76 Liftback. It was the first reliable car I owned after several beaters in college and allowed me to take many fun roadtrips back in the 70’s when gas was cheap and national parks were empty.

Fabulous job Eric on this first Moebius Dodge A990 purchased kit that I’ve seen built and posted on here. Can’t wait to receive this sedan as well as the two AWB HT kits I’ve ordered. Your custom decals are fantastic as well as that engine detailing (Fireball resin carbs?). Beautiful clean accurate realistic build! Bravo!

1/12 Trumpeter GT40 Kensar style
papajohn97 replied to kensar's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
That is one beautiful GT40. Thank you for also posting the extensive WIP earlier this year, amazing craftsmanship! I’ve read of a lot of criticism about this 1/12 Trumpeter kit but to me the body and ride height looks so much more realistic than the new 1/12 Meng kit. Sounds like both kits have multiple inaccuracies within the internals. Too bad MFH doesn’t produce a full detail 1/12 GT40 kit (or Tamiya for us poorer less skilled modelers!). -
This big roadster look’s really good in this red. Beautiful build!

Another terrific restoration! I love your taste in auto subjects!
-
Nice restoration of a very cool & rare subject. Great color. Many of us old guys wish we still had all those old dealer promo models from our childhood.
-
Amazing build, particularly the scratch-built period correct furnished interior. Bravo!
-
Gorgeous build of a very cool subject. I love these old Monogram 1/24 classic kits, they assemble nicely and have terrific potential for detailing. I have this Packard boattail kit in my stash and you build is inspiring me to move it up in the queue.
-
Wow! Fantastic subject! Fantastic execution!
-
Well deserved Steve! Your models are simply amazing and an inspiration to the rest of us mere scale modeling mortals here. Thank you for all the effort you put into posting here and sharing your techniques.

I predict we might soon encounter a shortage of 1/25 scale resin 727 Torqueflite’s in the marketplace with the release of this Moebius AWB Dodge! Better get your parts orders into SpeedCityResins ASAP! The last ones I bought from a vendor on eBay a few years ago to use on the Moebius Plymouth A990 sedan kits (that came with a manual) are no longer available.

65 Altered Wheelbase Dodge - Sneak Peek
papajohn97 replied to Altered Ego's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Congratulations Jeff! You’re leading the Moebius ‘65 Dodge AWB assembly line race! Wow! Three already painted & decaled and all three look fantastic so far. I’ve got three kits & resin parts orders in process and hoping to also do Dyer’s and Landy’s AWB hardtops and then use the AWB Strickland kit decals to do Strickland’s standard wheel base SS car using the A990 sedan kit. Are you planning on grafting Torqueflite automatics onto yours or just using the kit stick trans? Also are you planning on doing the match racer version of Dyer’s car (supercharger, no radiator, dragster style exhaust headers)? That car (originally the “Color-Me-Gone” car?) was so fearsome looking back in the day. Really looking forward to watching your progress and seeing these three come together. -
AMT DOUBLE DRAGSTER SET! Twin Blown Rail AND Injected Fiat Altered.
papajohn97 replied to Dennis Lacy's topic in Drag Racing
Great job on both of these restorations, love ‘em both but that yellow rail is a real standout. I remember my older brother building this kit in 1961! I was seven years old and I just turned 71 last week! ? It’s amazing how good these 63 year old molds are, this double dragster kit is still a real bargain for old-school parts for kit bashing.
