Great color and nice to see one of these Moebius Hudson’s built with black walls, a more common sight from my 1950’s childhood. These Moebius Hudson’s are such excellent kits. I had a blast building a ‘54 Coupe for my brother a few years ago and have been buying up a few more to build (this ‘54 fastback, the ‘53 coupe and the ‘52 convertible). I’m learning to grab kits like these when they come along and are still in a reasonable price range ($25 - $30), they sometimes get scarce, go up to crazy prices (Galaxie ‘46-‘48 Chevies) and disappear pretty quickly.

Beautiful job Walt! Neat clean build and a very accurate reproduction based on the 1:1 photos. That engine bay detailing is particularly sweet. I’m surprised you ran into issues with this Moebius kit, I’ve built a few of these and, unlike the ‘61 Pontiacs (front window, front grill), I’ve never had an issue with the interior tub or window fit. Cool to see a standard wheel base A990 drag car built with FI. Imagine this car really roared back in the day. Thanks for posting!

Fantastic job Thomas! The New Yorker trim you added is really well done and really supports the two-tone scheme (perfect 50’s colors BTW). I wish Moebius would issue marquee variation kits such as a New Yorker and a De Soto Firedome. Nice to see this 300 kit in something other than black, white or red (original factory color choices).

1965 Plymouth Belvedere I 426 Commando [1/25 Moebius]

Neat tidy build of a sleeper classic muscle car. Would love to see you you do another one of these with one of the upcoming Moebius ‘65 Dodger. -
I gave up using TS-13 over decals, I think Tamiya puts tolulene in their rattle can lacquers which is hard on decals. I’ve switched over to Mr Color (Gunze) GX-100 bottle gloss clear coat mixed 50/50 with Mr Color Self-Leveling Thinner. I have found the GX-100 to be much easier on decals than TS-13 although it can still react with with them if you go right to a heavy wet coat without first applying some thinner dry coats.

Another terrific build Mike! You are prolific in these classic drag car builds! Thank you for building and posting so many of my favorite period of drag racing. Wish I had a set of these decals. Hope you stocked up on SMP decals, I just learned today that they are no longer around due to the passing of the owner, Bruce Sadewater. He put out great decal subjects at reasonable prices and good service. Will miss them.

I love it Jim! Came out beautiful! Where did you get these decals? I assumed you used SMP decals and just went to checked their website (SMPdecals.com) found this website is no longer in existence and learned that the owner, Bruce Sadewater, passed away last month. Sad news. Despite the rastor graphics, I loved the subjects that SMP made decals for and appreciated their reasonable prices and good service. Will miss them! -
Michaels getting rid of models?
papajohn97 replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No model kits in either of the two Michael’s nearby me in So. Cal. I suspect kits were hot sellers during the pandemic years but, like dog adoptions, have cooled way off since. -

Just now discovered and got caught up on this excellent kit-bashing WIP. I’m particularly impressed with the scratch-building on that interior, really nice. I built and posted a resin bodied ‘62 Galaxie A/FX three years ago (here) and remember it being a lot more work than I anticipated. It made me think if $ was unlimited kit-bashers should buy two of everything and first do a dry-run build to figure out how to do the “official” build (and make all the mistakes on!). Your MCW Corinthian White in your photos look’s about right to me. I used ScaleFinishes CW and it became my favorite off-white car model paint. I love these early 60’s door slammers and you’re doing a fabulous job on this one Jim, looking forward to seeing this one “under glass”! -
That is really cool and very well done. I’ve seen this technique used on AFV models but never on a car model. Bravo!

Not surprised, one of the best car model builds I’ve seen on this forum or anywhere else. Congratulations Steve! That Showtime mirrored X-frame is a great way to display it, I gotta get one of those!

This Merc look’s so so good in that color. Great job on a timeless classic!

I am ready for 2k

Thank you Bill for posting your clarification and the warning above. As a cancer survivor, I try to encourage fellow modelers here and elsewhere to take precautions with the toxic materials we handle. Let’s all try to grow old together and leave as few unbuilt model kits as we can before we check out! -

Really nice job on this iconic car. I got to see the two blue & white ‘77 versions of this car race at Long Beach (47 yrs ago! Eh gads I’m getting old!) and they were very competitive, sadly the six-wheelers were discontinued in later years due to unavailability of the small front tires. You did a great job with those scratch-built brake cooling ducts, not easy to do. I tried that method on a build I posted a few years back of a ‘65 Mustang SOHC A/FX for the air inlet lines and it was a struggle, what kind of wire did you use? Copper? Brass? Solder? -

Is that a “closed ventilation system” face mask? (fully sealed around your face where you’re only breathing clean air from outside)? If so, good for you, you’re a smart dude. These 2K 2 part urethane clear coat paints are very harmful (carcinogenic), not worth the risk IMO for the sake of getting a shiny car model. I worry about all the guys using 2K without adequate protection. -

Wow! What an amazing transformation! Your floor selection is perfect, should be easy to find those small dropped parts! -
Nice job Matt on this excellent old Monogram 1/24 classic. You did what I think is the key to making these kits look more realistic/ less-toy-like: PAINT THE WIRE WHEELS! All the detailing you added and the overall build quality is very nice. The only thing I would do different is to use matt or semi-gloss on the seats.

Cool!!!! I’ll take 3 of the AWB’s and 1/ ea of the stock ones! Take my $ please!

Interesting subject very well executed. Particularly like that engine bay, sweet!

Another cool door slammer Mike, one I’ve never seen modeled. I need to look for one of these AMT kits, it’s the car I learned to drive in (my mom’s Artisan Turquiose 283/ PowerGlide coupe). On the yellowed decals, I wonder if they can be bleached clear again by exposing the model to sunlight for an extended period (like on an inside window sill)? I’ve had some success clearing up yellowed decal sheets this way, not sure if it would work after mounting?
-
Nice job Steve on this poncho. This along with the ‘62 Bel Air are my favorite AMT kits. I am most impressed with that interior, the two different shades of red and the black make it look so realistic and period correct and the dash/ steering wheel/ door panels are so well detailed. I also think that silver contrasts nicely with your neat foil work. Bravo!

Nice build Mike! I applaud your efforts in using ancient decals, they came out great! I’ve read that old decals can be salvaged by spraying them with a clear acrylic spray (much like one is required to do when printing decals on inkjet decal paper at home) but then they need to be manually trim to size before soaking. I have yet to try this technique to determine if it helps with old brittle decals, maybe someone else here has and can comment? I’ve been building “non-shiny” models (ships, tanks, planes) all winter/ spring due to the low temps but I hope to start some car builds as it warms up. Love all your 60’s drag cars that you’ve been building & posting! Keep ‘em coming!

Very nice job Walt. I know what you mean about these Mobius Mopars, I think I’ve built like 6 or 7 of them (hard tops, sedans, AWB’s). They are absolutely addictive!!!! I stopped building them when I ran out of decal options. Can’t wait for the Dodge kits to be released, I have three sets of decals waiting for them. Love early/ mid sixties super stockers!
