ZIL 111V replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
-One of the first "GW" flyers in '79: " mini poster" from Bradley's designs for MPC 1980 car kits. -1981 coupon with selectec GW KITS (mailed a few! ) -1982 selection flyer of "GW" & other "Golden Opportunities" series kits: planes, boats, etc. -MINT (uncut!) Golden Wheels MPC F/S car kit boxes, yes still exist even factory sealed after 30 years ...From my kits vault; 1984 '85 mpc "best sellers" annual C4 vettes (both HOT MPC sellers back then the 1/16 C4 was one of my favorite car kit back in mid 80s)...The Bigger you buy...the more "GW" you got! : -
"Golden Wheels", remember that program?
ZIL 111V replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Surely remember well that MPC gig, starting back in 1980 or '81, got me to buy or get many MPC car kits from the early to mid 80s. Plastic model car kit sales declining drasticly since a few years, back then, Fundimension idea was not bad for "boosting" sales. Still remember sending my 20 first MPC " Golden Wheels" tokens + $1 (USPS fees) to get a brand new MPC "Night Moves" El Camino SM kit, back in 1981, costing about...$4/$5 at local K-Mart, at least i got my 1st choice kit (you had to choose 3 on form/coupon in case stock ran out). 5 buys of 1/25 MPC kits got you a Free kit ..(.for $1!) One 1/25th scale car kit box = 4 tokens: 20 Tokens to get One 1/25 car kit 30 for One 1/20th car kit 50!!! for the 1/16th "Black Bird" T/A with working lights or TV DOH Trio: '69 GL/Daisy CJ5/Roscoe Monaco. 100!!!! got you The GENERAL 1/25th Steam train or the 1/12th Christie Fire Engine,( back in 1982). Got 10 "Golden Wheels"...(Half a 1/25th car kit!) when got the BIG 1/16th scale 1984 Vette + a chance to win the real one! pretty exiciting for a guy who was near getting his driver license -
Good news! the parts layout reminds me of the good'ol Heller 1/16 kit, guess it served as a reference when designing this one...indeed a "21 Pallas" would have been better. Totally Amazing to see that still no one plastic kitted the magnificent SM design marvel in 1/24th scale, after all those years , maybe a future dream come true with... EBBRO :

Very nice to see all your great Big Rigs builtups, some really beautiful pieces We surely are in a great period with all those reissues from Round2 (AMT) Revell (Monogram) & brand new Moebius kits, makes me happy to see that truck modeling is still strong & alive after a darker period! When i see all those US reissued truck kits in original boxes on the shelves of my LHS(s) in 2014, reminds me of the hobby shops of the 70s early 80s, growing up, with "tons" of trucks & trailers kits, back then, "stacked" on shelves during the "golden era" of US truck kits :

Willkommen! Herr Weitzer. Very Nice OOBs, Like the cabrio, inner seats of both kits look great! Remember getting the cabrio (#655) 1st original kit, when it came out in the early 90s (1990/91).

Thanks to all! Indeed quite "entry level": popular model, but also appreciated by 70s "top notch" F1 Legends: True that the 308/328 are in the most affordable bracket of "used" Ferraris, but indeed parts &.... maintenance/labor fees are "A$$$$tronomical"!....Prefer sticking with my "populist" (a bit heavier!) brand new Challenger!

Big fan of Ferrari graceful designs of the 60s, 70s early 80s (today not so much! ) 308 series was a magnificent design, still a beauty even today in 2014... got to love those lines Monogram excellent 1980 308 GTB 1/24th kit, straight from the box, must admit that for such a simple "curbside" kit, it turned out great, this was the latest edition; Revell AG " 308 30th anniversary" 2006 box. MM Champagne Gold + clear, 2 tone/cream/black interior, testor gold wheels, plated in...$$$witzerland!

Simple 1/12th kits, but very nice when you take extra time & put a little TLC while assembling . Again straight out from the Revell "Torch" RM series box: Testors Flaming Orange metal flake lacquer with decals sealed by various clear coats, + a few black washes to disc/chain/engine & "rubber dulling" of tires:

AMT Chevy TITAN 90 .....ORIGINAL ED?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The original 1970 edition would have been a better seller, but R2 had to set with the latest mold available in its hands, wich was the T529 Dragfoiler ed. The latest ASTRO95 RC2 reissue, a few years back, was also a latest updated version, (same updates as Titan90 + delete of Turbine Engine option). Corner mounted side mirrors have been "deleted" on the chrome tree of all versions since then, but a few original 1970/71 parts have been kept in both Chevy/GMC updated versions: Single muffler pipe, low back seats, etc. -
AMT Chevy TITAN 90 .....ORIGINAL ED?
ZIL 111V replied to ZIL 111V's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
-1970 was the very first edition red/white boxart of the TITAN90 (T-509), AMT did the very early version of the TITAN: corner side cab mounted mirrors, smaller "C" cab grab bars & lower back seats, the kit was available until 1975/76.... -1976 Amt "updated" the... "NEW"! TITAN (T-529) with new seats, top "Dragfoil", & new "S" side grab bars, the mold was slightly modified to ad the newer updated parts... so we got this later one in 2008. (the Titan had been out of production since 1983). IF Round2 got us back the very first 1969 "T-500" California Hauler Pete 359 kit... who knows with the first 1970 TITAN &...1971 ASTRO95 kits -

Always liked the Monogram car kits; easy to assemble & fantastic look when finished ...2 of my all time Mono favorite car kits : -
The Dakar - January 4th 2015
ZIL 111V replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Remember following this epic rally back in the 80s, best accurate infos on this rally was in... French! In North America, back then...mostly nobody knew what was: Paris/Dakar! -
MPC 1/20th Ford Van to be reissued..
ZIL 111V replied to Rob Hall's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
90% US Parts ?!?!? ...10% "PRC" parts??? The factory stock parts were deleted by MPC in all 1/20th Ford van kits, in the second half of the 70's (early 80s): High Jacker/Shock Treatment 4x4s, Visible/Super Vans, Slammer & Wizard versions. -
Esci Ford Transit- Paris Dakar & Hertz versions
ZIL 111V replied to Chuck Most's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Remember buying this fictious CANON version back in 1986, expecting a real "Off road HD desert racer", unfortunatly the kit was the factory stock Transit: no HD rally equipement at all: roll bars, cleated tyres, front bumper guard, top carrying rack, fog lights, racing seats, spare tires!, etc. etc, needed to compete in the epic & extremly tortuous Paris Dakar rally...equipped like this kit a real Transit Van would have lasted about 5 miles in the Sahara desert!!! Boxart plastic telephone dial hubs should have given me a hint! -
Funny to see that the Revell Auto Transporter, Pete "Black Majic", KW K100 Aerodyne & Prestige sets, were all developed by Revell in L.A. back in 1982'83 & since the second half of the 80's all went to Germany where they still are today.

ZIL 111V replied to christian's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Just finished the exact same kit a few months ago.... possible to get a super good looking kit, even with the tires/wheels provided in kit ...Have extra "mint" parts for the same kit, PM me, got the parts you need. -
...Fixed conv top! heres a "minimun" interior view of detailed dash: not to blurry (cheap cam):

Thanx to all ... (lighting in pictures not the best!) Knew this kit a bit, already made it 2 or 3 times since the 80s... Assembly was pretty easy, for such an old kit, typical of Monograms car kits of the period, simple & easy assemblies, nearly no serious fitting (parts) problems...closed top piece, in lower back doesnt fit perfectly, but not so bad, V12 pretty simple but passable, heater hoses/wire looms nice touch, but no hinges (or pins) under hood to safely place the hood?!?! :
-
Another Monogram Classic kit, good'ol 1941 Lincoln Continental, pretty nice kit for its time (1967), Again straight out from the box (minus driver spotlight + plates), 90s SSP edition kit, MM Dark Bronze Met + BMF, sealed by MM clear coats, metallic colors always great looking on "Fat Fendered" cars of the late 30's/40's )

Wunderschon! herr Schmidt, Life Like!

Thanks for pix! see the early 80's "Lighting Bolt" edition, BBS type rims still on tree. At last! another MPC 1/20 kit back after nearly 30 years of absence.

As metion by BigBad, ERTL excellent Transtar Eagle II, &... Revell (US) fantastic KW K100 Aerodyne, of 1982, are also to me the 2 greatest 1/25th plasticCOE truck kit ever. Was particularly impresed by Revell outsatnding K100 kit, quite impresive back then, can't uderstand why Revell US doesn't reissue the original 1982 edition of such a great kit:

Fittipaldi"s Ride- 1/12 Lotus 72 JPS!
ZIL 111V replied to jaymcminn's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Beautiful piece! The 72D (in JPS marking/colors) is surely one of the most beautiful F1 ever. Tamiya did an amazing job on this gem (40+years) kit. Indeed the F1 Driver kit inspiration, back then; was Fittipaldi...Jacky should have been "kitted" too!
