  1. Thanks. It was a 3 year old car when I bought it, and was not super shiny.
  2. You are correct. I thought about that when I applied the clear and tried not to put on too a wet coat. Car was 3 years old when I got it and not super shiny.
  3. Put the clear on. It turned out not too bad. I can live with it. The color is true to the original from what I remember.
  4. Rumblestrippin...................Justin Johnson.
  5. Could be, I don't know. I think some other users said they had used Mr. Hobby and it was fine. And I sprayed on the color coat this time. I did go wet, almost to the point of it running. Anyway, it is what it is. I'll finish it up best I can, and just get another one if it doesn't work out. I'm sure the paint is fine, it just doesn't work for me. I only got it because I wanted the original color, I will not need to get anymore from MCW, although I may give their enamel a try later on.
  6. After smoothing it out with some sanding I shot a couple more coats on. It did the same thing. Has a rough texture, feels like sandpaper. It's especially on the roof and trunk. The side panels are not too bad. I tried taking the advice gave and shot it closer and wetter, using a .38 needle. I guess I just can't shoot this lacquer. I'm just going to sand out some of the roughness and apply the clear. I'll have to be careful not to burn through because I used the rest of the paint. If it does not come out to my liking I'll just put it all back in the box. I'll purchase another 66 later and start over. I've already found a Tamiya Acrylic that looks really close to this original color, Tamiya X-33 Bronze. I'll use it if I start a new build. Stay tuned, we'll see how it goes.
  7. Ok, I sanded with 1500 and 3200 and it smoothed out quickly. Feels really smooth and looks better also. I did burn through some spots so I will hit it with another coat or two. I'll try to get closer and put it on a little wetter, I am running the psi around 30. Hopefully it will turn out ok and I can put the clear on it.
  8. I sanded with 1500 and 3200 and it really smoothed it out quickly. It feels much smoother and looks better also. I did burn through some high spots so I will add another coat or two. I will try try to shoot a little closer, I am running the PSI around 30 already. Hopefully it will turn out ok and I can put on the clear.
  9. Thanks Bill. Thing is I have shot metallics before and all went well. The first time I shot a metallic it didn't go well but I adjusted and I thought I had it right. So I shot it like I have always shot a metallic. The only difference was this was a lacquer and I've never shot a lacquer, lesson learned.
  10. Ok, well I'm just bummed out because I wanted this to turn out good since it's a replica of my first car. That's why I went with the MCW, I wanted the original color. Not sure what I'm going to do with it. I've heard wet sanding a metallic is not the way to go. But I think I will try to sand out some of the roughness and shoot another couple of coats. I'll try to get closer and put it on wet, maybe that was the problem. This is my first time using lacquer so I admit I don't know much about it. I think from now on I'll stick with acrylics. I have used about half of it. The lid does not have a foil seal, so don't know what happened there. I know they had just made a move and were backlogged on paint orders, maybe a mistake was made.

  12. I disagree. I've sprayed a lot of bodies and never had this problem. I've sprayed metallic using my airbrush which has .3 needle, never has this problem.
  13. Steve I can understand you may think it's user error, but I've painted many bodies with Tamiya paint and never had this problem, so I will disagree with that. My paint jobs always have been smooth, never this rough. It feels like sandpaper and no it's not dust, body was covered during drying. I know I can gloss it with clear, that's not a problem. The color is a metallic, but I've sprayed metallic before with my airbrush which has a .3 needle, and have not had this problem. The primer I used was Mr. Hobby, it's good stuff, came out smooth as glass, don't think it was the problem. The lid on the jar has no type of sealing device, just metal against glass, that never works.
  14. You can't really see it in photos, it's more of a feel, like it's gritty. And it's not dust, I had it covered during drying.
  15. I didn't, but should have. But it's not like it was too hot. It is just not smooth, feels very rough. I used Mr Hobby Primer.
  16. I got the paint a couple of days ago and painted my 66 Impala replica with it. I am not impressed. It came out rough, not smooth at all, and it's streaky, blotchy. I will need to wet sand and see if I can get it smoothed out and try adding a couple more coats. It's also not as glossy as I would have thought. I can maybe fix that with a clear. I've never had to sand a body I painted with Tamiya Acrylics. I should have tried to find a Tamiya color that was close to the original. Also the bottle leaked badly when I was shaking it, never could get it on tight enough to stop it leaking.
  17. After looking closer I will say I'm not impressed with this MCW paint at all. Very rough, not smooth. I will need to wet sand to get this smoothed out, and try adding another coat. I've never had to sand a body I painted with Tamiya paint. I should of just tried to find a Tamiya color that was close to the original. Also the bottle leaked badly when shaking it, never could get it tight enough to stop the leaking.
  18. Not sure if I like this MCW lacquer. Seems to go on streaky and blotchy. I put on 3 coats, maybe I need to put on a couple more. And it's not as glossy as I thought it would be, guess I can remedy that with a clear coat.
  19. Thank you. Thanks Mike. Thanks Bob. I finally got the paint, just haven't had time to spray it. I'm curious too.
  20. Yes, Hot Lanta is the first one on side three of the album before Elizabeth Reed.
  21. Justin Johnson......Lost in the Storm.
