  1. That's what I'm going to do from now on, start with the body. I need to get better at preparing the body and take care of it first before moving on with the build. I've been forgetting things by getting into a hurry with my builds.
  2. Thanks. Therein lies my problem I've been having with the paint. I'm doing this with craft acrylics. I had a GMC truck back in the day and it was light blue, body and interior. So that's what I was going to do. I started with the light blue doing the interior, I could not get it to spray correctly, probably mostly my fault. I had to start over three times, but finally got it to where I liked it. Started the body with the same light blue and never could get it to spray right. So now I got some dark blue, different brand acrylic and it sprays good. But I had already finished up the interior, so I really don't like the contrast with the dark blue body and light blue interior, but I going with it anyway. I'll see how it turns out, may be ok.
  3. Thanks. Hope to get the body painted in a few days and finish it up.
  4. Excellent work Bob. Looks great. I've been wanting to do a gasser, found a 57 Chevy flip nose online and ordered it, but will be a few weeks before I get started on it.
  5. That's a beauty. Nice work.
  6. I've heard those stories also. The first ones Shelby sent them were all manual transmission and Hertz complained about saying they wanted autos, so Shelby started sending them with auto trans. The first ones also had racing brakes with metallic lines which needed to be heated up good before they would operate properly. Hertz complained their customers were running into the back of cars because they didn't let them heat up. Shelby had to start putting a warning on the dash about the brakes to remind drivers about it. My wife wanted me to build a Mustang because she had one as a teenager, it was Shelby but not the Hertz. I knew Revell made another Shelby but I could not find one, at least not at Hobby Lobby which is where I get my kits when they are at 40% off. She's ok with it being the Hertz as long as I paint it dark blue like the one she had. I'll check out that video.
  7. Still have not started this build. Working on the GMC truck which I'm having problems getting it painted. Weather and other things not co-operating.
  8. Got a rolling chassis. Working on the interior and body. Been having problems with the paint.
  9. Looks good. I remember building one of these way back in the day. Cool car. I had bunch of old finished models and kits that I either sold or gave away many years ago, it was one of them.
  10. The washer fluid worked good when I did the cuda, I was mixing at about a 50/50 ratio. Didn't seem to work as good this time, may have to play around with it some. I don't try for a show quality paint job, just something that looks nice. I am looking at getting a Paasche H later on. The 10 dollar harbor freight AB is probably not going to give me good consistent results.
  11. I've been using a silver sharpie, but with my shaky hands it does not look too good. I think it's the right shade because I have not seen too many in real life that are a bright chrome anyway. Bob, that engine bay looks great. What size wires did you use for the battery cables and heater hoses?
  12. Yes, craft paint. The interior for the Cuda done in the tan above was craft acrylic flat. This I'm working with now is a gloss. I wonder if that is the difference. I may have thinned it too much. Using windshield wiper fluid to thin with.
  13. After painting the cuda a few weeks ago and it turned out ok, I thought I would try it again on the GMC truck I'm working on. After 3 attempts to get the interior air brushed It still looks crappy. Can't seem to get it right. I haven't sprayed the body yet, but now I'm thinking I will just use a rattle can. I had been practicing with it on an old body and some spoons, but I guess I need more practice. I seemed to do good on flat smooth surfaces, but when trying to spray something detailed, I get pools in the low spots and no coverage in the high spots.
  14. I use Mr. Cement S for seams like engine halves, etc. as others have said. Works great as it has a wicking action that will run into the seam and weld the pieces together. For other stuff I like the Testors super glue in the small bottle with a brush applicator, it's quick setting and holds great. I get both these at Hobby Lobby.
  15. Weather a bit better this morning. I finished up the engine.
  16. I use my mini-mite dremel and one of the small brush attachments, using the low speed setting. Does a great job.
  17. Oh yeah, I still need to install the shocks.
  18. Got the chassis done, I think. Didn't notice there is a skid plate for the front in the kit, but nothing in the instructions about it. Not sure if I can get it on there with the front suspension on, but I may try later. The heat index is already at 108, pretty sure I'm done for the day.
  19. Bob, I use that 4.99 set from Harbor Freight also. Works well for me. https://www.harborfreight.com/magnifier-head-strap-with-lights-38896.html
  20. Yes, sometimes you can get free shipping, especially on ebay and if you are looking for a specific kit you are not likely to find it at HL. My doctors, large grocery outlets, and other places I need to go are in that same big city 35 miles away. I try to co-ordinate my trips so I can get several things done in one trip. That saves on the gas, etc.
  21. I have not seen Wal-mart sell model kits in decades around here. They may have them online. My local HL is 35 miles from me. I only go when they have them at 40% off which is every other week. Ordering from online hobby stores or ebay the shipping is just way too much.
  22. Things are going slow. Weather is hot and humid, can't stay in my work shed for long. I did some paint done on the chassis.
