Detail painting… a question of the whats and whys
Dpate replied to Keef's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Talking about the Vallejo model air black? Cause it’s a nice black as well, and brush paints good. -
So I got a small UV/LED nail lamp from Amazon to try and remove the yellowing on older decals. It seems to be working okay, but I’m not sure if 6 watts is strong enough? Plus the thang is annoying turning off every 15 mins. Is a higher wattage better or just 6 watts good enough, and just gotta play the waiting game? Really need something that will stay on 24/7 as well.

Yeah it’s acrylic paint, and washable. It’s kids paint used for shirts or hand painting etc.

petroleum…But I think in the near future online prices is gonna kill a lot of hobby shops. Hobby town may last, but I hardly buy any kits out of there. Prices are better than eBay, but man I can’t see paying $85+ for example a trailer kit I can get online for $50-60 free ship.

Detail painting… a question of the whats and whys
Dpate replied to Keef's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Word. Ever since I used there LP line up I stopped using there X- XF series except few colors. I love using their enamel line up too for detail work as well. Don’t get me wrong the X-XF line is good stuff - just compared to LP it’s not as good especially the Metallics. Mr hobby super metallics 2 are also amazing. Vallejo is good stuff as well, and model color is great too for detail work too. Also yeah I haven’t seen a shop around here that sells the LP line up. I always buy mine online for $2.50 or so, and LP-5 is the best semi- gloss black I’ve used, and I keep a Tamiya 45mL jar always full n thinned of the stuff. -

Haven’t tried it, and not sure if it works as good as new improved chrome. But wouldn’t the black polish up, and be too shiny after burnishing it down compared to semi gloss black? Unless it keeps a Matt finish after it’s down.

Clearcoat over Revell Chrome spray paint
Dpate replied to BKIN10SECS's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Alclads aqua gloss would work fine, but it’ll dull the finish like all clear coats will. -
There’s a site I order cologne from that’s similar to this. Even though hobbylinc will say if something is truly out of stock this site doesn’t. So after an order is done if something is out of stock they refund that part, and ship the rest. I mostly order paint, bottles, glue, etc from hobbylinc so never had the out of stock issue. You’re right though it isn’t a great system as it’s more a first come first serve in my opinion. So whatever you ordered that was out of stock others must’ve of got it first before your order got pulled.

1K aka acrylic lacquer finger print issue.
Dpate replied to Dpate's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well this was at 110F baking for a hour. Probably just gonna stick with 2K for the bodies, and use the 1K for wheels etc that need a good gloss. Might try another test sometime, and let it bake longer. -
10 years before I was born lol
-
Never had that happen. Must happen with certain things, and first come first serve type of situation. Everything I always ordered got shipped out after 4-5 days, and got delivered in 2-3 days. Totally understand why you’re frustrated bout it though.
-
I’m pretty sure decanting it will work the same as decanting any other paint. Might have to thin it a little, but there’s plenty of 1K airbrush ready paints you can buy without decanting.

Most detailed model?
Dpate replied to Scott8950's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You did just a better version of it as I recall a pic of it in my head lol. -
Depends on the kit if it’s even gonna fit where it’s suppose to fit anyways. If it can fit like it’s suppose to I’ll try my best with proper tweezers to get it in or if it can’t be seen from top or bottom eh screw it.

Yeah hobbylinc is legit. It does take a few days for them to start pulling stuff from the warehouse. I have an order coming in tomorrow from them as well. Scalehobbyist, Sprubrothers, megahobby, modelroundup, Burbank house of hobbies, hiroboy, plazajapan few places I shop from other than hobbylinc.

So went back out of town too Ollie’s, and checked hobby lobby. Got another truck and picked up the coke truck. Found the rover hidden in a buggy at hobby lobby. Also went to hobby town, and they had the rat fink transtar. He wanted $78 for it, and I’m like yeah this dude is nuts. Can buy it $50 from Amazon all day, and $40 from hobbylinc.

Yeah don’t really think he came up with the hinge idea on his own. Sure makes himself seems like he did with that ego. -
Did they stop making Super Clean again?
Dpate replied to Mike C.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Quit buying it long time, but I always got it at Walmart -
Went to Ollie’s out of town, and found all this. They had every kit except the mail truck, but already got it. $5 for the puzzles that comes with the poster too.
