I ordered one of these from a diecast source. I'm goal is to combine this 1/24 diecast toy with one of the Revell kits and see if I can build a new Blazer kit. The wheels/tires don't look all that terrible until you look at the back. It looks like I might be able to use the frame if I shorten it slightly. If so, I can ditch that bogus chrome engine for the more realistic Revell unit.

Trying to avoid mixing 2 different brands of paints.
-
My point is, I'm standing in front of a Testors paint rack in one of the worlds biggest brick and mortar hobby stores and they have no flat black paint. I'll bet I could walk into Walmart (I try to avoid that) and I'll bet you $100 they will have testors flat black. You go online and Hobby Lobby has small bottles of Testors flat black and I told them this. Now I have to place a special order online to get the paint I need. If someone asked me what paint I used the most of I'd would have to say flat black. Never in my life have I seen a Testors store display without flat black in it.

The Hobby Lobby near me has a Testors rack for when you need those little bottles, with no flat black! they have semi gloss black (which is a little too shiny for my liking). Now this can easily be fixed by adding a few drops of flack black. There is not even an empty bin that says flat black on it. There are about 7 bins that just say black each one with a different part number on them but none that just say FLAT BLACK. Now I've informed what appeared to be some king of higher up about this on numerus occasions. still no help. Now I'm going to have to find some on line source just to get one dinky bottle of flat black. Maddening!

I'm doing mine from the AMT Super stones 1979 f-150 kit available now. -
I already checked all my old clothes and have some craft felt (not really thick enough). I think I'm just gonna order some of this Donjer suede-tex stuff and hope for the best.

MPC 1/20 Highjacker 4x4 van
Mike C. replied to Mike C.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This thing has no bumpers to speak of so I went and scratch built a front tube bumper using some 6mm tubing I got from a sprue that holds the quarters on the Firestone f150. I had to open a 2nd kit for the rear bumper but found the same piece to be a little rough. I heated it and tried to make it work but it looks like I'm going to have to get some of the evergreen stuff they make it in 6.3mm. I can even use the brush guard that comes with it.- 69 replies

I thought I should go back and change the title of the thread now that this project is officially under way. Got undercarriage painted still need to do a little detailing on engine. Does it look a little dark to anybody? Might have to go back and mix a little white in to look like blue oval blue. Gotta go order my paint and flocking. Might be on hold until after Christmas.- 69 replies

Jeep CJ
Mike C. replied to cheyenne93's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Is that the one that is half diecast\half plastic? If so I gotta go back and look, I may have that set. I got those same tires from mine. -
I've done it numerous times but I was trying to give it that factory look. In this case (van), even a household shag carpet look would do.

Looking good. I like your tube bumpers and wheels. What are those wheels from? -

I keep seeing this Donjer suede- Tex flocking fiber. Anybody have any experience with this stuff?
-
I'm pretty sure thats the stuff I'm using now. Looking for something more heavy.
-
Yeah but you're limited to grass color.
-
Does anybody know if there is a flocking out they're that is heavier than your every day stuff? Kind of like shag carpeting. Every type of fabric I've bought for this van so far has not worked out in some way so I'm ready to just go with this flocking I already have. It's the right color blue I'm looking for but I feel like it will not appear heavy enough. Anybody know of any techniques to make it appear more heavy?

F-150 chrome removal
Mike C. replied to Mike C.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
My dad ended up buying it off him and I got to drive it a lot. That thing had some stones. You could feel the grunt under your right foot. Big 4 speed sticking out of the floor, rubber floor mats, all business. -

Wow Mark yours came out really good! Thanks for the tip. I have 2 sets of files. maybe the will word but I'm definatly using you tp along wit them. I even thought of wrapping some finer sandpaper around a metal rod of some kind. I think there are some pics of it but all our family photos are at my sisters in boxes. I'll try to find some if I get a chance this weekend but here's one I found on google that looks exactly like it except his was that more lime green . -

Yep. I find low is almost always the way to go. I think I used med 1 time I got the idea when I searched f150 on this board just to get some ideas and saw that someone did this . I thought my 2 bits would make it an easy undertaking. When does that ever work out. ? -

Starting way too many projects at one time again. I was thinking that I could build a tribute to my cousins f-250 custom that he bought new back in 1973. I remembered 2 Dremel bits that I had that make the job a snap (right?). Well, I quickly regretted starting that. Turns out you need a much mor stedy hand to pull this off. I only finished one side of the cab and now I had to go back and put filler to correct all the inconsistencies in my snap chrome removal. Bad idea.

Just thinking that same thing.

I don't think they make solder that small in diameter. I was thinking of using some round wound guitar string and then paint it black but it would probably keep springing back to straight.- 69 replies
