AMT Boondocker '72 Blazer
Mike C. replied to Mike C.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I finally got the last 2 side decals on. The nightmare is finally over with. They didn't go on as perfectly as I would have liked but it is what it is. They really have to get up to date with technology with these decals. I hear that the Revell decals are supposed to be good and my next 2 or 3 models are Revell so I'll loose a little less sleep l suppose. I applied the micro sol, so the decals should settle in a little while they are drying.- 17 replies

If it were that simple, I would think they would have done it by now.

Thats a nice one I built this one many years ago. Has the 440 6BBL with the pistol grip 4 speed. I hope to upgrade mine by painting the white lettering on the tires, putting on a set of Rallye wheels, and painting over those chrome valve covers. -

Decal tips. What am I doing wrong?
Mike C. replied to Mike C.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the help, guys. I don't have quite an elaborate holding method as the airplane, but I am using the toothpick to position the decal and I brush on both more water and the micro set solution then the decal more decal solution and when everything is all set, I follow up with the micro sol with a Q-Tip while pressing out the air bubbles. Then I let the entire thing air dry for a few days before spraying it with clear. Fingers crossed. I won't ruin my last side graphic. -
Thanks, I have a trade in the works.

So should I stick with 1 minute soaking and 30 seconds resting times? -
Need A really small diameter circle decal.

Thanks, but already done. -
I have the same problem with one of mine. No need to wait for a replacement. They probably won't give you one anyway. Try applying heat from a cheapo hair drier wile bending accordingly.

I was almost certain that I bought one of those cheap harbor freight hole punch set and went insane looking for it. In the back of a drawer. I found this old binder hole punch that I forgot all about. I stuck piece of the masking tape to an old backing from a vinyl decal and it worked out perfectly. I'll put them inside an old dollar store bottle for safe keeping until I'm ready to paint my '70 super bee. I like it with the '69 tail stripe. -

Thanks Tony. It's definitely putting up a fight. Anybody have any suggestions on how much time to soak and how much time to sit on the paper towel before attempting to slide off? -
This was a '73 Custom.

Almost forgot my other 4 1/18 diecast repaints. '68 Roadrunner, 2, '69 A 12 Roadrunners and a '72 GTO. No pics.

Beautiful work Charles. You are inspiring me to keep going with my '70. I even chose the same Carousel Red.
