  1. I would agree. I suppose when you think of '50 Olds Coupes, a great number of race cars don't come to mind, and I doubt more than ten people in the world were hoping for the Panamerica version. It just seems like an odd choice to me, as even a California Wheels style version with low-pro tires, larger diameter custom wheels, lowered front and rear suspension, and some flashier decals would seem to have a wider appeal. I remember Revell trying the Panamerica race car version once before on a re-issue:
  2. It's also a hubcaps, trim rings, and fender skirts delete version. Pretty weak for a second version IMHO, too, but I'm sure Revell's got another kit/version to release in a few years. Hmmm, it appears Revell decided to mold the front bumper and grille as a single piece, too.

  9. I drilled out the centers of the four wheel backs, making four wheel hoop halves out of them, so now I have to chose wheels to go with them. I will probably use the 15" Goodyear Polyglas GT tires which I used for test fitting the hoops and drum brake backing plates:
  10. The only aftermarket parts I know of for the 1/12 '69 Camaro were the Slixx "Grumpy's Toy" decal sheet and the Model Car garage p/e set. I've never seen any resin engine nor body parts for it, but you can always mix and match with the 1/12 '67 'Vette and '57 Bel Air kits, especially if you want a big block Chevy engine.
  11. I tend to believe it's an all new kit, too, as the trim on the body, the lightening holes around the seats, and the license plate recess would mean irreversibly modifying Revell's existing '32 Ford roadster body shell.

  14. Looking good, Fred. I removed all the molded on torsion bar bits, used some styrene tube for new forward torsion bar sockets, and cut some thin steel rod I picked up at Hobby Lobby for torsion bars. Luckily, it was within .003" of the diameter needed for Slant Six bars, so I lucked out. I will add some torsion bar anchor detail to the backside of the trans crossmember and fill the holes on the front face, but where it's at now: I forsee a Scale Hardware order in my near future. It would be nice to be able to use four scale bolts to hold the K-frame in place when needed, then be able to remove it when it comes time to finish everything. I also stared boring out the wheel back centers, so I can use only the rim in combination with the drum brake backing plates and drums I picked up from Scenes Unlimited.

  16. It's not a great kit IMHO. I built the '80s release which was molded in brown, and I recall the body lines being off, the optional early Hemi being not very well done, and the resat of the kit was unimpressive. Granted, it's '60s era mold technology, but the Revell '32 Ford Roadster is far, far better. Not rare at all. Lots of more modern street rod parts in this kit, but that body is a love it or hate it deal it seems, and my opinion falls under the latter.

  18. I got some more p/e frets from Model Car Garage- Dzus fasteners, saw blades, and engine brackets. No more floating alternators for me!
  19. Other than the '67 Coronet R/T and '68 Firebird forthcoming from Revell, I don't know which wheels were specifically designed by Chip Foose.

  22. I have plenty of molds to try it on, so no worries there. I suppose once a new, enlarged master is created, the mold it came from will no longer be needed anyway.
  23. Sorry, naptha. I will definitely be trying this. Let us know if the mold life is shortened or otherwise affected by the naptha. How long had the mold cured before you enlarged it with the naptha?
  24. Though this is a '72(?) J-10, it does show some details: Still kickin' myself for not grabbing this Gladiator grille!: The conversion's looking good, but go for the inboard round grilles.
  25. I think there are only minor differences, Nick, such as the red and green glass in the newer version.
