Concept cars youd love to see?
Casey replied to dryvr12's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think Lindberg re-issued the Kammback kit in the '80s, so I'm guessing they still have the molds. I was never a fan of the rear windows on the F-bodies and felt the H-body Vega/Astre had a much better looking Kammback wagon design, sepecially in GT trim. I would've liked to have seen Pontiac get a crack at an El Camino/Sprint variant back in the day: And a RWD Buick Reatta would've been nice to see, too: And this is just plain cool: -
CHALLENGE to Jairus, Harry and whoever
Casey replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I never said I don't like late B-bodies, I've just always thought that ad was funny, seeing as Tom Selleck became famous for driving a slightly more performance oriented car. As for the 2-door versus 4-door Charger debate, there is no right answer, but the fact remains that the Charger is and has been a 4-door since it was re-introduced, still sells well, and is going on its second generation, so Chrysler must know what it's doing. -

You and Tom Selleck can cruise in your B-body Chargers all day! -

People cry about how the current Charger isn't a "real" Charger, has too many doors, etc., but the fact that it still sells well (and outsells the Challenger by a lot), can haul five adults around comfortably, and has the same or better (for SRT-8 versions) 1/4 mile performance than its '68-'70 siblings speaks volumes about the car IMHO. I'm not even going to compare comfort and handling. -
Here's a ... Strange 1:1 Street Rod ... or ...
Casey replied to Danno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It could be a play on the Peterbilt name and Bill may have in fact built it, so... Kinda fugly, IMHO. -
Will we ever see another all-new tool in 1/8 scale?
Casey replied to LDO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lindberg had quite a few 1/8 scale releases, too. And sadly, Monogram's 1/8 scale kits were often nothing more than scaled up versions of their 1/24 scale kits- molded together engine and tsrns halves in 1/8 scale? And I love Monogram! No, I doubt we'll ever see another new 1/8 kit. The closest thing we got was the 1/12 scale '69 Camaro/'67 Vette, and '57 Chevy from Monogram in the late '80s, but what vehicle is iconic enough, appeals to a wide enough spectrum of modellers, and would be a good 1/8 scale seller? Most of "those" cars have been covered in 1/16 scale- '57 T-bird, '55 & '57 Chevy Bel Air, '64-1/2 Mustang, '63 Vette, Cobra, VW Beetle, etc. A VW Beetle might have a chance, but I can't really think of anything that I would bet on. -
Hobby Lobby- Lots of Clearance Model Kits!
Casey replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
True, but it's possible someone might be enticed to buy a non-clearance model kit if they have a 25% off copon in hand while picking up a clearance kit or two. Knowing how frugal most modelers are, it's highly improbable, but I like to give them the benefit of the doubt. -
I stopped at my local Hobby Lobby store roday and they had at least 25% of their kits marked down to clearance prices. Round2 Stingaree and Infini-T, two old time Lindberg kits, a few Tamiya kits (Porsche Speedster was one), the Revell '68 Bullitt Mustang, '94(?) Impala SS, and a Italeri L.A. Police Dept. Tow truck marked down to $30.00 from $70.00. They appear to be making room for another round of new kits, so if you haven't stopped into your local store for a while, now migh tbe a good time to do so...and don't forget the 25% off coupon this week.

Dawn Power Dissolver

Look at the ingredients of DPD, and you'll see: Sodium Hydroxide, i.e. lye, the same ingredient in Easy-Off, Drain-O, etc. Monoethanolamine (MEA) - 3-7% Sodium hydroxide - <1% http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/household/brands?tbl=brands&id=16003618 -
We hit the flea market today, and though I saw quite a few models, most were either built and still $5.00 or way overpriced, so I picked up this Toosie Toy 1/16-ish scale '34 Ford 5-Window coupe for $4.00. The wheels are what caught my eye, as they are very close scale versions of Keystone's Rouge/SnoMag wheels: The best part about this toy is the floor shifter and back seat.

"Little T" restoration and cool store display
Casey replied to jbwelda's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Are those from the AMT '49 Mercury kit? I seem to recall that kit (at least the Customizing Series version) contained those wheels. -

Just FYI, the Monogram Boot Hll Express kit contains the same rear slicks. I would search through the Monogram model kits listed on eBay and see if you recognize the same steelies 'n' baby moon caps on a similar era kit. Maybe the Blue Beetle kit? -

The tires you're asking about are the same as those in Monogram's "Orange Hauler" and "Lil Coffin" kits. Here are some pics of the Little T built up on Bob Black's blog: http://rodburner.blogspot.com/2009/08/monogram-little-t-by-ron-s-124-scale.html -
I agree. The front fender streaks scream '69 Camaro and the rear fenders are too bulged for my taste. I'm guessing that's the Calloway Speedster 'Vette's "glass" shown on the original version? That I like.

Does anyone make?
Casey replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Avoid the Lindberg kit at all costs- it's a total turd. The AMT Gremlin kits are your best bet if you want to build a stock type Gremmy. I'm not that up on AMT's Gremmy kits, but I;d love to see Round2 sneak a Grmlin into their lineup next year. Also, the Gremilin is far from nerd material. It's funky looking, but there's nothing uncool about liking them. -
Chevy Work truck grille 88-98

This grille topic came up a few months ago in the Resin section. -
The Mopar "Cop Car" wheels have six slots, while the Chevy Rally wheels have five slots.

Kits We'll NEVER See Re-issued?
Casey replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Though I'd love to see Monogram's 1/8 '82 Z/28 kit on store shelves again, I doubt it or any of the other non-'32 Ford based Monogram 1/8 car kits will be re-issued. I would guess most of the TV-show based kits (Simon & Simon Z/28, Riptide 'Vette, Hardcastle & McCormick Coyote and 4x4 pickup, Charlie's Angels vans, etc.) will not see the light of day again, at least not in their original packaging. For some of the above mentioned kits, that's a good thing! I don't think a 1/32 scale molded-in-pink '70s Chevy van with the Charlie's Angels logo on the side would be a huge seller. -
That is true. What is/are the release dates for the F/C kits, then?
-
There was no mention of these kits in Revell's Fall 2010 release of a week or so ago.

Kits We'll NEVER See Re-issued?
Casey replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm thinking the AFC and NFC Chevy vans from Monogram are likely never to be re-issued, not only due to licensing issues, but also the fact that many of the team logos have changed since '76 (and the fact that the Seahawks have changed conferences...again )
