Finished up a replica of my Brother in Laws '69 Charger. Made a few changes to the kit, made up and had cast some pieces unique to this car such as the A/C pump, dash with A/C vents, Torqueflite transmission., modified console with Automatic transmission shift quadrant and shifter, and the pedal assembly for an automatic transmission. This is a "White Hat" promotional package car and also has acoupla fairly rare options, the V5 bodyside moldings and the V21 performance hood treatment. Wuz allota fun masking the hood and adding the rub strip, getting BMF on the sides of the rub strip wuz interesting.

Tires, wheels and tail light panel done. Got a little carried away with the turn indicators in the front pan. Tire markings are Shabo transfers. R/T emblem on tail light panel is photo etch.

Thank you fer yer comment, the A/C compressor came from one of the AMT '71 Charger kits, don't recall if it wuz the Street Machine or the Stock version.

Thank you fer yer comment...this kit dates back to 1963, I believe it wuz originally the second half of the Ala Kart double kit so the tooling has some miles on it. This issue of the kit is from 1981 or so.

Thank you fer yer comment...I've been playin around with Mr. Color bottle lacquer of late. Mixed up a brown that wuz close nuff to Ford Thorn brown fer '29. The Revell chrome spray wuz OK, not great...but OK. I stripped the kit chrome and cleaned up the parts then shot the chrome paint over the bare plastic. Had trouble with the spray nozzle, leaked quite a bit of paint, not sure what the problem wuz but I replaced the nozzle with a Tamiya TS spray nozzle and that fixed the problem and also provided a better spray pattern. The finish is shiny and reflective but doesn't look like "chrome", more like nickel plating which fer a Model A is OK cuz that's what Hank used fer the shiny parts. The Revell chrome spray is also pretty fragile, I shot the chrome paint and let it cure fer a little more than 2 weeks...I didn't touch the parts...just let em cure. When I did begin handing the chromed parts I wore archival gloves and only handled them as absolutely necessary, but in spots where the parts were touched the reflectivity wuz diminished. Gonna experiment a bit more with the Revell chrome paint but at this point I think the Green Stuff World chrome paint looks more like chrome and is more durable. Stay tuned...

Most of the light blue is provided by the Slixx decals, I mixed up some paint to match the light blue decals to paint the front bumper. -
Thank you fer yer comment...yes, all the "chrome" is the Revell spray chrome. The kit chrome wuz in pretty good shape but the tool marks and flash were awful so I stripped the chrome and cleaned up the parts and shot the Revell stuff over the bare plastic. Thought this wuz a good opportunity to test this "wonder" spray paint to see if it's really worth the silly price ($35.00) that I paid fer it....Well, it is and it isn't. Yeah, it's shiny and reflective, but it looks more like nickel plating than chrome so on this model A that I built it looks correct as Hank used nickel for much of the shiny bits.

Pretty much outta the box, 1981 issue of the kit molded in red. Wuz a baggie kit that I have no idea where or when I got but it's been kickin around my shop fer years so I finally did sumthin with it. "Chrome" is Revell spray chrome.

Apache wheels...
Mothersworry replied to Mothersworry's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanx fer yer input, Yup, I have the Mach I kit with the Apache wheels and they are very nicely rendered. I wuz also aware that the wheels were in a Monte Carlo kit but I did not know exactly which kit(s) they were in. I wuz sure that someone had cast these wheels but due to my advanced CRS I couldn't remember who it wuz. I wasn't sure, but I thought maybe Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland had done the Apache wheels but they weren't listed in the catalog. So I took a shot and called Norm, sure enough he had done the wheels and they were available, they just weren't listed in his catalog...and the size scales out to what I need...problem solved. -
Green Stuff World and Revell chrome paints seem a bit more durable than the other chrome paints, that said, yes they are more fragile than kit chrome. I usually don't touch "chromed" parts fer at least a week or so after the paint is applied, then when I do handle the "chromed" parts I use archival gloves to minimize blemishing the finish of the chrome paint. So far, in my experience, any clear applied over these chome paints will at the very least diminish the reflectivity to some degree and in most cases turn the "chrome" in to shiny silver.

Hubert Platt Pro Stock Maverick...update 7/23/23...
Mothersworry replied to Mothersworry's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nope, no additional progress. Gonna wait acoupla weeks fer everything to cure then gonna clear coat the body, once that cures I'll begin the final assembly. -
Shot the chrome parts with the Revell chrome spray paint today, first time I used the stuff, came out pretty nice. FYI...Had some troubles with the nozzle, wuz leaking badly, discovered this after I had shot a little paint than shook the can a little and paint splattered around the booth. Apparently the nozzle wuz a poor fit to the stem thus the leak, wasted a bit of paint. A Tamiya TS lacquer paint nozzle fit nicely with no leaks, seemed to have a better, tighter spray pattern.
