Fantastic! Awesome details, like the front license plate mounting bracket...very nicely done!

Yes, I was there. Arrived about 11:30am, and the awards ceremony ended about 5:30pm. Met up with a few guys I know, a couple I hadn't seen for a while, which was a bonus. Brushes-Are you cleaning them right after use, and laying them flat? I've got brushes I've had for years, even decades! Make sure you use the right cleaner for the paint - I use tap water for Tamiya paints, and paint thinner or varsol for Testor's paints. I always clean the brush after use, and lay it on the workbench. I've done a few Bug kits - Revell can have it's fit issues, and I haven't built one, but the Tamiya '66 Beetle is nice, as is the old Mini.

Hey Fab, Nice job! I know the fit of the front and rear are tight - probably tighter due to a bit of paint build up, making the fit even tighter. A suggestion is to test fit parts as you go, before paint, after, and before glue. I used a bit of Tenax 7R (like a super glue) to fit the front and rear on my Challenger. Did you enjoy building it? Are you happy with the outcome? Would you build the same kit again? What kit is next? Hey, did you get to the AMRO contest last Sunday? They've already got the 2011 flyer up on the website, here. I won 3 plaques. 3rd in Theme, 3rd in Out of the Box, and Best Interior. Needless to say, I was quite surprised, and quite happy! Plus, won a '68 Road Runner kit as a door prize! In my experience, getting together with other modelers is the best way to learn (as well as a resource like this forum) to get better. Contact one of the AMRO guys, like Chris, and see if you can go to one of their meetings in Gatineau. Here's their website. The guys I've met are a good bunch! Might give you another outlet to pick up some tips. Main thing is...have fun building!

First build in 10 years - '09 Dodge Challenger

Looks good so far, Fab! You going to finish it by Sunday, for AMRO? -
Well, I think the weathering on the body looks good.

That started out as the BH truck?!?!? Awesome!!

62 Buick Electra 225 for the BCAS 'same kit' build.

Nice progress. The roof swap is a great look! -
No pics yet - I have been working at my Whistler Mustang. Not much but cleaning up mould lines on the chassis/rollcage halves. The bottom of the chassis plate has severe sink marks where the framework on the top side is, which means I have to loose the dzuse fastener detail, and will have to putty and smooth the bottom. Oh, well..didn't think you'd want pictures of my sanding sticks, and red plastic dust!! On the plus side, the chassis is looking better now. Once I've got the sanding done, I'll get a pic or two.

I can't recall the manufacturer, but I think it may have been a Palmer kit around 1967/68 (I was 5 or 6). Could have been a Mustang, or maybe a Corvette. I just recall the 4 posts between the chassis and the upper half of the body that fit into holes in teh chassis, and the two lower body sides that got a good gluing to keep them in place! Built it at my Grandmother's kitchen table, with lots of newpaper down!! I think it was 1/32 scale. Not sure what happened to it, but I may have a wheel or side pipe in my parts box still. First one I built with my Dad's help (the only one, actually!) was an AMT '53 Ford pick up, maybe around 1968/69. I still have that one in a box packed away, that I rebuilt at least once, maybe twice over the years...with Testor's bottle paints and brushes. I did buy a reissue of that kit that I haven't built yet.

E.R. visit due to modeling mishap
Tony T replied to samm1970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cut the end of one of my fingers, side to side. Deep enough for an ER visit, but not enough for stitches. Just before I cut myself, I said to myself that I'd better be careful or I might...slash...cut myself... Waited for about 2 hours (not bad), got a tetanus shot, a clean-up of the cut, and a butterfly bandage...and the nurse saying on my way out I'm sure we'll see you again! So far, they haven't!! -
Revell '68 Dodge Charger R/T (UPDATED 8/13/10)
Tony T replied to TurboKitty's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Good looking Charger! Interesting look with the 300 wheels and wide rubber. The redlines and slotted steelies look good! -
The ghost flames look fabulous! Nice!!

Great job on this rebuild, James! I must say, quite impressive! I have the same issue with my 12 or so year old sheet of BMF...I have heard the adhesive does break down over time. I just haven't taken the time to go to the hobby shop to pick up more. FYI-I've also heard to stay away from the Black BMF...better to paint, or use a sharpie. Good luck with the search. Maybe you'd have better luck with online suppliers? Not sure if that is an option for you. Anyways - Look forward to seeing more of this build!

Great to hear of people meeting, and getting together...awesome! Nice pictures, Romell. Thank you for sharing! -
Craig - I asked some friends about the AMT & Revell, and was told the Revell had better detail for a stock build. Thanks, Fab! Good luck with your build! Thanks, Bruce!

That's a great kit, Fab...I just finished mine recently. Four things - trim the two pins from below the rear window, and the two circle holes from the back of the interior - If you don't the interior does not fit right up against the bottom of the window, and there is a gap you can see. The second is that the hood fits tight when painted, so sand a bit of the edge of the hood on the front edge, and both sides. Third-don't glue the front of back fascias on the body before the interior and chassis are in place, or you'll never get them together. (I did do it with just the front one glued on, but it was a tough go!) Fourth - open up the hole that the front wheel locating pins go into a bit, or it will never go in without breaking the front suspension. Put the pin and locator for the front wheels before installing the suspension to the chassis, just will make it easier! I also used a piece of glass to put the model on when I installed the suspension and wheels to make sure all 4 touch the ground at the same time. The interior, chassis and body are a very close fit, so test fit before paint, and after. Most importantly though...have fun with it!! I did find some useful pictures of the real car for detail painting by google image search for "2009 Challenger". Really helped. I think it was Multi-Hobby I had been to. Will have to check out Hobby 2000 some time. Take care!! Oh - there is a model show on Aug 22 in Gatineau, put on by AMRO. May be worth a look! -
Ein? Quoi? Comment? Qu'est-ce qui a? Je manque de pratique en Francais, aussie!

Oh, and check out the forum rules...before you get a reminder from one of the mods...if you don't use your name, you are supposed to put your full name in your signature line. Makes it more personal. -
New to the boards...returning to the hobby
Tony T replied to VVhiplash's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Welcome back to the hobby. Yes, things have changed. The big box stores don't carry the kits, so it's the local hobby shop (LHS) or mail order shops and eBay/auction sites. I see in another thread you are in Gatineau - Howdy neighbour! There is a well stocked hobby shop (The Hobby Centre) that I support in Ottawa just off Merivale and Hunt Club on Roydon, near Costco. There is a hobby shop in Gatineau (actually, Hull area I think), not far from the Casino as well, though I have only been there once, and I forget the name. There is one on Montreal Rd near Vanier Parkway (Hobby House), but I haven't been there in ages! -Resins are just that. Resin. They do not have the same characteristics as styrene plastic for glue, sanding, paint prep, etc. I build styrene, and have only two resin kits (a Batmobile and a figure) and I have yet to build either one! -Photography - I've played around a bit with this after researching, and experimenting (love digital!). I built a garage diorama to serve as a background. I took it outside once a couple of Aprils ago now, and love the results from that. I have it set up near my workbench, with a tripod, and a light source, as the flash washes out so close without a diffuser (I don't have one) and I do like the results I get, but if it was less of a pain to take it all outside, I'd do that. So, I use my camera on a tripod (no shake), I use the macro setting (best for close ups) and use the timer for the shutter (again, no shake from pressing the button due to the longer exposure). I crop them with a photo editing software, and down size them in "Paint". I load them to Photobucket, and then can share them here. (You can check my photobucket album out). You can get a tabletop portable/storable photo box set up with two lights meant for small items (It's probably 30-40cm square, er, cubed), that also has a very small tripod for tabletop use. My wife has one, and I haven't taken the time to try to use it yet. Hope this helps to get you going...I'm sure others will chime in, too! This is a great forum for learning, and asking questions. Have fun! -
Nice job! The side windows are a great addition!
