What Did You See In Your Yard Today?
johnyrotten replied to Tim W. SoCal's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
When she first showed up my wife called someone, they told her if it doesn't appear sick, or suffering that there's not much they will/can do. Kinda a run around answer. We see this one regularly with a few other's, and with all the feeders on my property she's hanging on. She doesn't run away when she spots us, more inquisitive than scared. -
I've had vision problems all my life and by far the best headlights I've had on a vehicle were the bi-zenon in my volkswagen gli. They were auto leveling and had a very distinct "cut off", didn't blind anyone, factory equipment. Most of the "upgrades" some people do actually make the problem worse, wrong bulb for the type of housing/reflector and the temperature(btu) of the light. More isn't always better. Dont overlook all the now giant trucks with aftermarket everything, lifted, and running IMPROPERLY aimed lighting. As for new vehicles with factory portable sun's for lights, I think part of that is manufacturers going with the trends, and of course the profits for replacement. I'll stick with my cheaper, serviceable composite headlights. I used to work on optical sorting equipment, you learn a ton about light's color spectrum with those. Pretty neat systems.

Cool old stake body work truck. Nice work with the weathering and patina. -
I'm sure I've got a set from the copperhead, I'll dig them out tonight.

Do You Keep Pictures For Future Builds?
johnyrotten replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have 2-3 different cars photos saved, and around 60 photos printed in a folder for reference on something I want to build very accurately. There's one car from my youth i can still get in person pics of, that one's on the list as well.So yes, I save references for future builds -
Spent most of the morning lowering the suspension and adapting the wheel backs to fit the new wheels. Here's a shot of the stance, let me know what you think

Finally a break from the heat, 71 degrees and rain on the way. I'm glad my God daughter's Graduation will be indoors, and it wasn't scheduled for yesterday.

What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
johnyrotten replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I know that.👍 The woman had some machinist tools and boxes of carbide inserts as well, I let her know those were in very nice shape and worth real money. If she had the complete set of wrenches I would have come out of my pocket for a fair amount. I look for bargains,I'm not greedy. -
What Did You See In Your Yard Today?
johnyrotten replied to Tim W. SoCal's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
She's been around for the last 4-5 years, I have no idea what happened to her leg. They normally don't live long with injuries like this, this one's hanging on -
What Did You See In Your Yard Today?

This girl hanging out in the yard, she's still around, bad leg and all. And yes I need to mow the lawn. Between the monsoons and heat wave I haven't had a chance. -
Sweet looking Ranchero. The two tone paint scheme really sets it off, as does the interior color. 👍👍

Weathering techniques question
johnyrotten replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Absolutely looks great.👍👍 the engine fan will "pull" junk past the engine, you got more grime behind the blower, just like real life. -
Weathering techniques question
johnyrotten replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Think about "how" the parts you're trying to weather get that way, and reproduce it. For road grime it's more grays, thin blacks. Oils are more brownish black ect. Honestly I mess around till I find what works right, and textures add a ton of detail you may not get any other way. It's all an illusion. The frame was rusted first, then painted to simulate a hastily done spray bomb job, so that's exactly how I did it. -

That looks just like his kit seat. Different trim levels perhaps?
