What is your favorite sports car?
johnyrotten replied to WillyBilly's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not 100% if this fits a "sports car", my second generation gti was a blast to drive. I miss that car. -

I've never heard an owner speak badly on one, and I've driven a hot rodded older model(turbocharged) very fun car,and versatile platform is I understand. -
Good point, and that would certainly skyrocket the price. On occasion at work I've built small jib cranes and such. My boss has had an outside firm come in have them "certified", all plans have to signed off on by an engineer, and I'm sure the rating is with a heavy safety factor. I've seen my share of backyard rebuilding, bad frame repairs and such. I'm pretty certain Henry Ford forged those axles for a reason, castings are in my understanding, great in certain situations and not so much in others.

Do you also have 1:1 project cars?

I'm only in my mid forties, but the years of doing it beat you up and I feel it,too. Being reckless in my youth didn't help none, either. -

I hear that. they do have a way of keeping you on high alert coming apart. I'm cautious every time I do 'em. Struts too. -
That's a nice return on the investment, I hope.

Great looking corvette.

I hear that. The heat I handle, that thick heavy air is just no good.those days when you've flushed all the minerals out of your system with too much water are the worst. 86% humidity,no thanks.

Looks awesome, and good luck with the move.👍👍

Interested to see where this one goes,I picked up the same kit a few years ago. I like 55-6's a bit more, lower trim the better. Less common. The pillars are repairable, there's more than a few tutorials on here.

Got a little more done tonight. painted the chassis, I wanted this to look like a fairly correct restoration. There's primer overspray, varied coverage of paint, and I tried to include the factory undercoat on the rear wheel wells. There's a couple different blacks, and different sheens,I'm horrible with photography so I'm not sure it shows up well. I still have to do the tank, straps and some subtle weathering.

It's sitting right. 👍👍. I haven't been to a Goodguy's show in years, they stopped the Rhinebeck NY show a while ago.

I've noticed that as well with some of the paint i have. I've got a translucent white pearl from golden I want to play around with. Might be a good "mixer" to mess with.

That looks awesome. I really like that color.

Looking great. You certainly build them well, and quickly might I add.

Making a Return to the Hobby From Upstate New York

Yup, every time I wash my truck it rains the next day, regardless of the weather report.

That probably came from one of the stamping presses. Or a die. We've got a 10ft, 60 ton brake at work that will pop heads off bolts if you push it to bend something it doesn't want to. My boss found that out hard way. Impressive if that let go all at one time, with the size of those machines I'm not surprised.

How's it look mocked up?

Very sharp looking gto. The red stripe is a nice touch. I really like the vinyl top as well.👍👍

Got my truck's inspection done today, now the sticker is halfway where it should have been with all the old adhesive still smeared on the windshield. Minor irk, but seriously, not hard to do a good job with this. Happy they didn't cut my dash. I believe I've found the training grounds for future "chimpcanics"

This thing is cool, man 👍👍. It looks like you had serious fun building it,most importantly. Big hemi, little car, odd proportions, it's an Ed Roth cartoon come to life. Nice work.

I would have sourced another vendor with that wait, even at 12 dollars. I scrounged all mine from old headphones and cell chargers.
