Current building techniques
Joe Nunes replied to Bobjernigan3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I keep in mind that if a model builder is enjoying the hobby and subject matter at hand, is doing a competent job to his/her ability by adding desired details if wanted, and making a nicely painted and clean build then I am good with whatever level on the modeling ladder the model reaches. If the modeler had fun building the kit and didn't find it a chore of sorts then the overall experience reaches its own high level. Joe -

Real nice work thus far on your model, Bill. Having the mechanical knowledge to make the necessary detail changes, and the ability to execute the revisions, is going to help make this project a winner! Joe -

A very nice model save and looks good in the colors you chose. I remember watching these race cars back in the day...lots of noise and dust in the air...did I mention noise and dust? Oh boy, oh boy, what fun! Joe -

Round 2 November 2022 Product Spotlight
Joe Nunes replied to Dave Darby's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Good post, Tim. I would have to add that with today’s rising price point with regards to the future of new model kits, authentic scale replication will become very important to the model kit buyer when deciding whether or not they take the wallet out at the checkout counter. Joe -
Have done quite a bit of sanding and cleaning up of parts with this release. Opened up the frame holes so they would be similar in size and crisp and I will need to add some putty to the rails before I am satisfied with them, however, it’s all part of the fun. Joe

A nice addition for the model bench. Enjoy! Joe

Have removed the chrome from the majority of chromed kit parts to facilitate cleanup. Got the items sanded and have filled the mold dimples on the parts that needed it using Evercoat Putty. Will let the putty dry and then get back to the model parts. Joe

Round 2 November 2022 Product Spotlight
Joe Nunes replied to Dave Darby's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Bought a new 1977 Buick Regal, white with the green interior and half frost green vinyl top (don’t recall the exact color names). Best car I ever bought and I would sure enjoy making a model of it for old times sake. Joe -
Super Gas '77 Vega--Completed! (11/12)
Joe Nunes replied to Straightliner59's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
The model looks great! Nice work and colors…a real treat for the eyes. I purchased a 1974 Vega GT, green with white lettering and black interior, new off the showroom floor. 4 speed, posi track rear and lots of extras on it. Really enjoyed this car and didn’t have the rust problem some folks experienced…however, after 3 years I traded it away when, during a tuneup, the technician told me one of the spark plugs was seized in the aluminum head. Not good news at all ‘cause I liked that car. Joe -
Still working the tops lower edge to fit nicely to the body. Right now the top will sit on the body by itself without support so it’s coming along. Need to make a decision regarding the seat modification though; not much of a frame under the seat area and I would have to put flooring under the body. I like the idea of the bench seat but wondering if it would look hokey with the minimal frame structure. Joe

I visited our local HL this afternoon and all the kits I looked at were shrink wrapped. Wonder if those taped kits without shrink wrap were returns that the store decided to put back on the shelves? Regardless, I would think it a good idea to pass on purchasing a taped kit. Joe

I was surprised to see how many kits on the HL shelves were at the $40 price point. Makes me wonder how long we will continue to see the 40% off week continue. Might be time to start checking out the yard/garage sales and resale places like Goodwill and such more often. Joe

Thought I might as well jump in and post something being worked on in the model room. Chose the Green Hornet because I am having fun with it! The model build was started awhile back and put away, got it back onto the bench and we will see where this goes. Made some changes because I can never leave well enough alone and am considering a bench seat instead of the kit piece. Don't look for a fast build here, folks, 'cause it ain't going to happen!? Anyway, here is what I have going on with the build at this point. Comments and suggestions always welcome. Joe

Purchased these at HL this afternoon. Had the '70 Buick GSX and the '70 Roadrunner on the shelf too; will pick them up on the next 40% off week. BTW, Joyce picked out the '53 Studebaker Starliner in the metal container...cool beans! Joe

Wonder if the bodies were packed into the kit box too soon after coming out of the mold? Just a thought... Joe
