Sounds like a great time! I ALMOST made it.......but couldn't get it worked out and arrived in Toledo yesterday afternoon. Wish I coulda made it. I woke up just outside Detroit today............hey George, whats for breakfast? Y'all got grits up here?
-
Dunno. I've always thought the front end looked ok, its the back end thats just kinda weird looking.....its like the front and back were designed by two different groups.
-
What do you mean, no talent? Pfffttt.......like Dave said, I think you are cutting yourself short. This is a SUPERB build. Your basic modeling skills are definitely there! Very nice model! BTW....I've got a bag of genuine Bonneville salt that I've been wanting to use on something, but I've been told that baking soda looks more like salt in this scale than real salt. With or without it, its a really nice model.

I'm not sure, but I think I saw where the ones from a 1/32 scale semi work.

Beautiful model! I've always liked what a friend of mine used to call "Punchbuggy sprots cars". Lol! Years ago, when I was a signpainter, I lettered a Karman Ghia that was built to race on dirt tracks in the 4 cylinder class...... There were two of these, this one and a red #27. These things dominated the 4 cylinder class so much that they asked them to move up to the V-8 Hobby division. The first week against the hobby class V-8s, they finished 1-2! Lol! But enough rambling.....this is a beautiful model. Perfect color, perfect stance!

Awesome stuff, Ed. Like George, I'm diggin' the wrapped tires! You gonna bring this thing to the Southern NNL?
-
Welcome to the forum, and I'll go with the flow here....the '66 Nova is the way to go. And if you get one and wanna trade the body for something, let me know!
-
There all awesome, but that pickup.....man! I'm droolin' here!
-
Thats one of, if not THE nicest 40s I've ever seen! This makes me wanna build one! Those whitewalls come in the kit?
-
Great lookin' truck! Very realistic! What color did you use for the blue? That looks like the exact factory color. I been planning one of these as a 1:1 truck I had. Hope it comes out this good!

When you mentioned sort of a WWII theme, I thought about a guy in our club that recently built a P-51 Mustang of the Tuskeegee Airmen.....beautiful little bird that was in a natural metal finish with a red nose and tail.... Just a thought......but with that being said, if you are limited to the above choices, I chose the blue. Good luck!

Excellent work on this! The paint is top-notch, and painting the engine Ford Blue was brilliant!
-
Thanks again everybody! As soon as I get caught up on some of these other projects, I'm gonna do some more of these box art models....this was a blast!
-
Lol!! I'll bet! Fantastic!

This is my opinion.....JUST an opinion, and someone will tell me I'm wrong for sure, but if you're decaling a relatively flat, glossy surface, why would you need a decal solvent? That stuff is made to help decals conform to irregular surfaces, and if thats what you're doing, the above tips are excellent. But just decaling the sides of a car shouldn't even require a solvent. Cut the decal to fit, dip in water and place on a paper towel till it loosens up, wet the surface, apply and position the decal, gently "squeegy" out the bubbles with a paper towel....and let it dry. A HOT cloth towel will help it conform on minor curves. Solvents will destroy some older kit decals. I only use it when absolutley necessary. Hope this helps...good luck.

AMT/ROUND2 1970 1/2 Camaro Z/28

Yes, this is correct. They weren't even polished.....just plain ol' aluminum. -
I'm not a chemist, but I seriously doubt the age of the plastic has anything to do with its ability to tolerate paint. I just finished an early 60s era '49 Ford, using Duplicolor primer, Testors color, and finished it with a urethane clear coat and had no problems whatsoever. Just treat it as you would any other project and you should be fine. MCW paints are lacquers, so use a good primer for sure.

Thanks so much everybody, and Bob, I'm glad you like it. The caps are in the original kit, but not in the reissues.

Remember awhile back when awbcrazy posted those beautiful box art buildups? I thought those were the coolest thing....I just HAD to build one for myself! I dug out one of the oldest kits in my collection, a '49 Ford, and there on the box was a nice looking custom....something ELSE I've been contemplating building. The original chrome had faded, so I'd like to thank buffalobill for the replacement pieces from a reissued kit. The only thing I added that wasn't in the kit was the whitewall decals from SELtd, and flocking. Paint is Testors Italian red with automotive urethane clear coat. Anyway....here is my FIRST box art model, and my FIRST custom. Thanks for looking!

The Way We Were

Cool pic, Bill. My sisters and I had to sort through my dads stuff earlier this year and found a box of old pics....we spent an entire evening just lookin' at 'em and reminiscing....way easy to get lost in those old pics! Good stuff! -
Thanks again, y'all! By the way things have been going lately, I think I probably peaked back then! Lol!
-
Excellent job on this one! You know, if they used your picture as the box art, they woulda sold a ton more of these.
