  1. I haven't seen anyone do either of these mods yet, so at least I'm ahead of the pack, for now . The Hardtop chop really does change the look, actually makes the lid look lower. Yes, The drip rail is gone now. After body mods, I'll probably go with 99% kits parts to finish it. Still haven't decided on a color... Alclad green/gold flip over black or copper pearl... Decisions, decisions!
  2. I kept telling myself it wasn't in the schedule... No new projects... I have other stuff I want to build! After seeing all the Merc projects, I had to get started! Plus, This is a really well done kit and it deserves a build! Pretty simple stuff so far... Removed the B pillar and will replace it with a curved molding... Smoothed out the fender line dog leg (never liked that feature ) I'm strongly influenced by the Hirohata Merc, but not to the point of cloning it. I've got a few other subtle mods I'll probably do... but I'll update on those later.
  3. Hey Brian, Thats a good looking Mustang, but of course I'd agree on the direction you took with it!
  4. ??? I'm not sure what you're asking...
  5. Excellent work! So far, I think you've taken the bodywork farther than anyone else building this kit, and have done a great job with it!
  6. Heres an original comment... Excellent color choice! Love the flat finish!
  7. Hey Matt, Lookin' good! The Modelhaus wheels and tires give it a different vibe (and they just look right!) I kept telling myself "No More New Projects!", but like everyone else, I went home last night and started work on mine! Not only am I stalling other projects, but I'll probably steal the tires and wheels from another project!
  8. Excellent build, as usual! Love the open lakes, thats the kind of detail that really sets this one apart from the others. The interior, what I can see of it, looks great, also!
  9. Funny... I've been thinking the same thing! Maybe just a page in the mag, using a forum post. It could be a how-to, under glass, tip, etc... But I think it would help both the forum and mag by cross-advertising each. I know you already use forum post for "Ask G & J". This would be more like the "Picture Lottery", when everybody realizes they may get a magazine shot, and with most post here, some useful info to go with it.
  10. FloridaBoy, I agree with the one part Bondo glazing putty. I've been using it for several years and have yet to see anything ghost back up. I only use it in thin skim coats though. I strive for a good plastic surface before I putty it up. Two part Bondo has given me problems adhering to the plastic. Recently found Tamiya one part putty... Its a love/hate relationship. Applies nicely, dries quickly, sands/feathers great... but Duplicolor primer seems to attck it and make it shrink. Sometimes I'll do a bottom up Tamiya paint job, but usually I use duplicolor... I'll have to give up the tamiya putty before you can pry the Dup from my cold, paint spattered hands! True Milliputt brand epoxy is great stuff. I've never seen it age poorly. I've used it several times to build sculptural detail. My 2 cents... Do I get change back?
  11. I'm not a 4x4 guy, either, but... Very well done!
  12. Nice looking old custom! Built the way they should be... With most of the custom parts, but well done!
  13. Very, Very Kool! The monchromatic blue paint is a great touch, which adds another dimension to the Rat Rod concept. Love your roof and visor work! I'll race ya...
  14. Simon, These are just solid resin peices, only static display like any other model. I would think the color you like on that build is Duplicolor Orange Mist. No real way for me to know, but you might want to contact Lindley thru his website that I posted above. Jairus, Thank you very much for that compliment... I really appreciate it coming from an artist like yourself (and you know I like your work! )
  15. Heres my latest off the bench... Batmans LSR Go Kart. A fellow hobbyist from SoCal, Lindley Ruddick, cast these and gives them away to builders, with the condition he gets them back to add to his collection. You can build whatever you like, no rules whatsoever! I had a lot of fun coming up with this scheme... The bodywork is molded in milliputt, after attaching a .040 styrene base and .020 uprights on the front end to define the final shape. The rear fins are .030 styrene glued into grooves cut into the body and blended with milliputt. I also left the resin base off, so it would sit lower. I cut the wheels off the base and mounted them under my finished work. The bottom edge of the body was rounded off using 1/4 round styrene rod, with a .010 plate in front for the intake. I painted the base coat in Testors Flame Red (new lacquer) and taped off the graphics, then shot Testors flat black, along with Testors clear. BTW, Flame Red is one of the nicest reds available, as its a very true red. Here's the rest of the Go Kart collection... LSR Go Kart Gallery Enjoy... Comments always welcome!
  16. I love it! Very inspirational... If I can get mine on the bench!
  17. Shes a Beauty! Great looking build!
  18. One of my favorite show rods! Your build is looking pretty good! I've got about 95% of all the parts to build one... I really should get that one on the bench!
  19. Sweet ride! Great looking build, just the right stance and attitude!
  20. Hey Brendan, Nice looking build! BHP Enterprises? I've heard good things about them...
  21. just FYI, Brians pic is a bit bright because of the flash. I've seen it in person (and shot a sample myself) and its a med. Grass(?) green, very nice color.
  22. Yay, I got it it right! What'd I win? The headers, chute cord and shadows on the ground were my clues...
  23. Clean and simple... I like it! That road surface is gonna beat your suspension to peices, though!
  24. A little progress is better than none at all! Nice wheels... what we'll pay for the right ones, huh? Hope you have a nice, long, uneventful weekend at your bench, you deserve it!
