I started this kit a long time ago. Kept running into issues, so shelved it till recently. The body is copied with no fillers. It's ok and will make a nice not-shiny rod. Here's some of what I am working on.
-
This started as some paint testing. As it progressed, I started doing experiments with other stuff. So it's done. Interior and wheels are among the best paint brush detailing I've done. Body? Pretty bad. I weathered the underside but again, not my best, but some paint experiments. No photos of underside.

got a new 29 A to work on my sedan. Hopefully have enough parts to make it all work now.

Paint project/experiment 67 Corvette convertible

Thanks. I still need to try to detail the centers of the wheels. But even the chrome and molding on them is lumpy. That's not on me though. All in all its ok. And I learned some stuff so it's not a big fail. Just won't be displayed. I bought another 29 model A at HL today. Going to try to get the frame under my 31 A sedan body. Body was chopped and started years ago. And going to look for three kitsi started last year and have lost. Lol -
That is awesome! Could I possibly ask how much?

Put me in with the old guys. Silver looks better.

Paint project/experiment 67 Corvette convertible

And it's back. I am having a love/hate with this kit. I really don't need this build, but I started the experiment and am carrying it through to completion. Trying different things with it. It's mostly built. Down to the details now. I have discovered that I can polish Pledge. I have used headlight polish and the moto tool on this one. It will shine what is there. I might still try some heavier cutting polish to see what happens. Unlike hobby clear, you can beat down with the moto tool on the pledge. I hate red plastic. Even when you get it painted, when you snip a part off the tree, you have to touch up the red spot. Interior came out nice but not a correct shade. The kit decals are no good at this point and they are terrible anyway. Looks like monogram tried to rip off Fred Cady and failed. Hopefully finish this one this weekend. I really have no next project, but I'll find something. Might be time to clean up my work area. Next stop should be under glass. -
There was a LOT of excitment over the Nova. There was that molded in mirror thing, but they fixed that too. Thanks for bringing that up.

Ok, I'm a bit confused. I built the bottom photo Camaro and thought it was the first release of the modern tool. With it's round fender tops or whatever. Around 1991ish? And then the BM camaro later. Are those not the same kit as the most recent reissue with full bumper? I've sold both of them so I can't look. I would like to have the new one, but as with any new model purchase, I have to think forward to where will it go when complete? I'm out of space to display and building to go in a cabinet doesn't seem right to me. Might be time to rotate the displays I guess.

Thanks for replying. When I wrote my post, I was thinking of YOU as the one to go to the execs with our requests. LOL. Just didn't want to vocalize it. Interesting what you said about sales bombs. The Edsel is just not going to sell no matter what form it is in, apparently. I did do a kit. I do have a diecast. But I like oddball things. Also about sales bombs - I thought it intesting in the recent Ollies posts that the 48 Ford Police car and 66 Suburban were pictured. I did not buy those when released and was hoping to get them, but was too late. I'm sure they'll be on ebay soon... for twice original retail. I wonder how they determine the next new subject. IO mean it's not like we are all on here clamoring for a new 71 Mustang. I will be glad to see it, but saw that others won't be so excited. I'd be happy with a reiisue of hte Mustang II. No real need for a new detail kit I don't think, but maybe a modified reissue. And a Dyno Don or Gapp & Roush Ford to line up with the Grumpy's toy. I'm way off topic now - maybe this will spin off to a new topic and go somewhere. Now bring on the teddy bear wheels and proper Mustang kit. Go on ahead with a couple wheel options (teddy bearas and hubcaps), auto and manual trans, 2 engines, small and big. Multiple stripe options (mach1 [mainstream] for sure). Not in separate releases. A guy can dream, right?

CA and other things I'm clueless about
randyc replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've read that Pledge (Future) is good for photoetch too. REcent use of Pledge does seem to bear ou thtat it tacks up quickly and is easily removed with windex if screwed up. Good luck with your Torino. The PE parts can be daunting at first. As for CA glues, I have been using Duro brand - available in little metal tubes at DG, WalMArt, for a buck or less per tube. Only if I make a huge blob have I had issues with fogging with this brand. I apply with a dental pick or place a drop on a little piece of plastic, then touch part to it (holding with tweezers). That will apply a tiny bit of CA to the part on the mating surface. There is not a lot of adjustment with the CA though. Get it right the first time. The Duro brand in the little metal tubes works for me. I was using bottled, but it was going bad before I can use it. No I will actually use the tube up and move to the next one. Less wasted. -
Excellent. I was missing the proper search terms apparently. I did find black listed on this dollhouse site. https://www.dollhouseminiatures.com/supplies/detailer.htm With a llittle more to go on, I found this part of the site to open. The home page will not open, so I have no idea if you could order from here or not. http://www.thedetailer.net/order.htm. no answer at phone number at 8:55 am EDT today. Just rang til call disconnected.

There needs to be a cohesive poll like the other magazine used to do. Most wanted kits. One cohesive poll. Then present it to the mfrs and see if there is any sort of response. FOr several years, we were getting the kits that were most requested. Maybe no thte next year, but if one were to go back and look, you;ll see that most of those kits made it into production. This forum is probably the most used model Car forum in the US? It might be tough for us to come together and amass that poll though. I'm not smart enough to figure out how to go about it. Gotta ask what we want, then reduce that down to a list that works.

The paint is pretty rough up close, but thanks. Pledge (Future) made it better.

Here's my diecast birthday haul. More photos of trucks later, in a separate post. The Corvette has been covered, but I am going to try to detail the wheels while I look for an FM 69 Vette for wheels. Also got a spraybooth but no need for a picture of it. Same or similar to HIPguy's.

Yessir. Well I say yes. They are in an AMT box of parts. I have like 4 boxes of these Mopar kit parts. But yes from that tooling.
-
Yes, decals are from decal sheet. For this build I used all the decals and didn't attempt to paint. With enough red label solvent, they snuggle down. I applied solvent over space of couple days. Let it dry, hit it again.

Wow. Several of these cars are available in diecast. Or close to them. I'm not one to snub a good or even semi good diecast. I could never get them all built if they were made. Plue I might not want to invest time in building it. For what a new kit would cost, I have a 57 Dodge truck like the one in the photo. And it has more detail than I would ever want to do in plastic. All about choices. For years, the Hirohata Merc was my holy grail. But no kit ever other than the Jimmy Flintstone body which I was not willing to do. I don't have much luck with resins. But I have a diecast that is absolutely nuts with details. Even rolling wheels under the bumper to help avoid grounding out the bumper. The 53? Buick pictured is available in that color and in blue - pretty easy to find on ebay for less than a kit in many cases. Auburn is also available in white, black, navy blue, others? 55 Olds, 57 Olds. I used to not accept diecasts, but have found that I can have a LOT of cars that aren't available in plastic. With details I could never hope to achieve, nor want to invest the time in, not that I don't admire those of you who can do that. Scissor hinged hoods? Yep? Internal hinge doors? Yep. Wired and plumbed engines? yep. Working suspensions? Yep. The build process is only part of a model car. Having a nice replica at the end is another part. I have built enough kits to not feel anything about buying a diecast over building it myself. And have plenty of things to still build. I'd rather have a diecast at this point than a kit. AS for the ramp trucks, I have bought several in 1/64 - they are just so large in any other scale. But still no Dodge that I know of.

That's cool!

Thanks. Good luck with the rear bumper. I wish I would have done even more there. When compared to the diecast also pictured in this thread. My wheels are AMT out of Roadrunner with correct trim rings and painted centers. The Revell wheels will work but aren't necessarily correct for a factory SS396, from what I found. I am not going to pretend to be an expert. Just what I found when doing my research for the build.

I admire your dedication to the Mustangs in kit form. I bought the Warren Tope kit, but that things was just too awful to contemplate really. Now I wonder if I should hang on to it and see what will cross over to make a reasonable replica. And don't apologize for the teddy bear wheels - I like them. For some reason they are what I associate with this generation of Mustang. I bought a 1/64 so I would have reasonable version of this car - be glad to see the new kit when it gets here.

Please post that beside something for an idea of how small it really is. Hopefully it will be interesting enough for a writeup.
