Coincidentally, where are the heater hoses in this kit? So many recent kits have had them that I actually went looking and realized there are none in this kit. I was so disappointed to lose that mirror head. They were going together so much better than the 55 - 60 Chevy mirrors. I was VERY careful to not lose the stem. And actually dropped both of them in the carpet under table. Found them easily though. Then lost the head. Dang it. I still have the stem if you want it.

And the paperwork. Although Ebay has helped me on that with the Global Shipping thing. However, I have no idea what the cost is on the receiver end. My cost ends up being less than $10 to send to Kentucky usually. They handle it from there.

I am so not good at taking photos while building. Took this last night. It's all done except exhaust tips. The pins on pipes broke off in handling and I need to affix the exhaust tips better than just trying to butt glue. Also, the side mirrors are the BEST 2 piece mirrors ever. However, while gluing, I lost the passenger side head in the car. I'm imagining it to be CA'd to something up under the dash board. Lol. So it will be missing. I put the stalk on the car first so I could get the head positioned properly. So here is the last photo before it will be completed and next time will be under glass.

Speaking of screwups, I saw a C4 or maybe C5 vette yesterday with a decal of some sort downt he middle of the rear window to try to emulate the split window look. It was truly poorly done and horrible. No back to the other screwups. lol

I know we don't sell on here, but if anyone wants the Monogram kit, PM me. I have one from my friend's collection that needs to go to a good home. I think it's the release with silver car shown above. He wanted me to build it for him before he passed away unexpectedly. I think it was still sealed when he sent it to me. Should be complete. I just don't have time nor interest enough to build it now that he's not here to take it when complete.

quick run though the sold listings on ebay shows a low of $50 for damaged car to well over $200.

Paint project/experiment 67 Corvette convertible
randyc replied to randyc's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Probably. And it is completely okay with me if this fails. I have a Franklin Mint Diecast of this car. It is a completely disposable kit in my world. So let's see what happens. There are so many posts about failed paint jobs. I've been doing this a long enough time that I can't blame it on inexperience. I do feel that modern paints and kit plastics are different from the old days and that may be an issue. Please test in an inconspicuous area... lol I have no idea where this Color Place came from and it's just flat black. My wife has a box of old sprays that it may have come from? I must admit, I haven't even read the labels. Just shake and go. LOL I used to swear by ROSE's stores flat black. then Krylon black paints. But they are completely different formulas now apparently. I really want to do a kit with my can of 1994 Emerald Green. Just to say I did. I have used it, but it was probably 1995 when I last did successfully? And the clear reacted badly on my recent Morgan kit, therefore the project it became. Not the green, but the testors wet look clear, dang it. I have no luck with it. -
oh that's frustrating for sure.

Wow. Just wow.

New build and experiment. So I have this old 67 Vette molded in red. No interest in it whatsoever anymore. You can see I started sanding and filing parting lines off sometime ago. That will be part of the experiment as well. Will the paint hide these? After my primer debacle recently, I figured I'd do this "in the name of science". On those other two builds, I had some of this Miracal dollar store paint overspray on the hood of the 69 Chevelle. When I put it in the purple pond, the "bad" primer came off, but the black overspray remained. So I thought this might be a paint that might block reds, might be a primer, etc. Let's just see what happens. I thought my Miracal can had more in it. I wanted to paint the entire kit with the Miracal, but I wasn't going out in the rain to get paint. (That can be another part of the experiment - the weather). When there wasn't enough paint, I thought I would just experiment with it and what I have on hand. Some color place flat black this might be old paint of the wife's?. Some Rusto X2 primer. In the second photo, you can see what I have primed each set of parts with. he weather was warm, 80 ish in the building and raining lightly - southern US summer humidity. And the body will be spray canned with gloss white from the Miracal line - $1.35 at Dollar General. To start with, the white will be sprayed directly over the black Miracal. DG has some more expensive paints at $3.35 per can, but we need to know if the cheap stuff will block the red plastic and how the cheap paints work. Engine block will be Chevy orange spray from parts store. Minimal, if any air brush will be used. No aftermarket parts unless you guys want to send them. Probably no flocking or embossing powder. Unless you guys reply enough to do it. WE'll see how all this works. I'll try to document the paints used as we go. It might be a giant failure. White car with red? interior? I have some red or burgundy vinyl dye in spray can. Or saddle? I don't like black interiors. Who knows. But the only stinger on my decal sheet that's any good is the red one - tires laid on decals at some point, ruining the other stingers. I like decals. The point will be to paint over the cheap primers and see how various paints react with others and plastic. Next installment will be the white on the body, hopefully. Minimal prep to the body. I painted it and left it to dry - have no idea what it will look like next time I look at it. We'll see.

I like Rally cars and flashy race cars. This is nice.

Well that's where I was going with mine. Saddle interior probably. But.... It would be cool to display them side by side.

Straight outta the box. Same issues that Jonathan had with the decals. But it's done and looks great beside my 65 GT350 Franklin mint diecast

I some progress today. It's coming along on random steps. I'll have to check on that tip about mounting the engine. Also, photo of the road wheels from the roadrunner kit. They look ok. But, work the wheels out of the tires, just the black backs and shiny metal pins, might see if I can find a set of black steel wheels. No photos of mock up though. Thought I took one or more but apparently did not. Maybe tomorrow..

Looks good - good use of period parts too.

Didn't get there yet. I took my red 69 diecast home from my office and was messing with it last night. I saw on Junk Yard Gold other night that Mopar had trim rings in 69 and just chrome in 68. Learned something... Maybe this weekend.

Ummm, first gen chargers were the 66-67. LOL. And to get back on subject, it is odd that the first Mustangs were Falcon based. And you guys are saying 71 - 73 are still first gen, when they were based on the Torino platform - a muich larger car? Great idea though. Be interested in seeing the finished set.
-
Keep going - that's a nice tease.

"Crapsman"? LOL that's me! And I have moved on. GT4 almost done, 69 SS396 has paint on most all parts.
-
Update on wheels - the First Gear wheels aren't coming apart as easily as I had hoped. May try one more time. Hard to get the tires off the wheels. And none of the wheels fit the other tires, dang it. The Keystones are beautiful, but have the old rubber square sidewall tires. I can't remember the brand - maybe MRC? I may see what else I can find in the old stash this weekend.

Well, it is an attempt at Burnished Brown. It is Testors Extreme Lacquer Rootbeer. I needed a color that was out of the normal to go in the display. So my first thought was gold but I didn't see any at the Advance store when Istopped and had the brown leftover from a previous build. Figured why not? It will stand out on display. And it is coming along quite nicely after the primer fiasco I had. Thanks for the compliments. The chrome on the seat edge doesn't show up as much as I would like. And I think the seats and door panels need a coat of Pledge to give them some sheen. Body will get one more coat too. Try to bring the shine up a bit more. This is my first try at Pledge floor stuff.

Douglas Adams had a line in a book. “There was a sort of gallery structure in the roof space which held a bed and also a bathroom which you could actually swing a cat in. But only if it was a reasonably patient cat and didn’t mind a few nasty cracks about the head.” I've used this quite a bit.
