Those Vettes are nice enough. And odd that they sell as cheap as they do. And the HW are as nice as any I've seen of late. I think I have the 917 in a Gulf scheme. Maybe. I kinda gave up on HW a couple years ago - just not enough realistic models on the pegs to be worth the searching. And the pegs here are always missing the good stuff. Same with Matchbox - they have good models but not available on pegs around here. And not worth the cost on ebay.

Oh yeah, I've done that as well. THere are a few teeth left that are in reasonable shape, but if I need to cut something major, mine are pretty worn out. For less than $15 I can have a new one, so I figure it's time.

I think we have that, Oreillys, advance. And they are each in a cluster on one side of town. Other side has Auto zone and advance. Small town. I haven't been IN the NAPA store in years. I don;t think any of them are doing much in diecast? Oreillys has an M2 57 Chevy, but not sure if the others are even bothering to have diecasts now., Are they?

Anyone seen this engine kit?
randyc replied to randyc's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That's always my first thought. My wife looks at ladies' stuff all the time. I tell her to look for reviews or on Amazon. That's why I was posting here. I couldn't see how they were doing the scam there and the engine model DOES look interesting. -

Aha! I see how they are getting you now. And the only other photos are the little lego looking thing? -

My wife said to do it, but I just know it is a scam of some sort. -
This pops up on my FB feed. https://samekelp.com/products/4-cylinder-full-metal-car-engine-assembly-kit-model-toys-for-adults Looks great! Looks awesome! Price: $23.99! Looks like a scam! Elsewhere on the net, it is $400 or more. But looks fun. Anyone built it?

84 Dodge Ram stake bed
randyc replied to Grzegorz's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks good! I had an 84 Power Ram with slant 6. Yeah it was a slow pig. Especially with 33s on it. BUT... it would go [however slowly] whereever it would fit! I never felt like I could make a kit work. Good job! -
1989 Ford IMSA Mustang

That's one I woulda bought for sure. I tried to modify a street body. Before internet. Photos were scarce for me. But I was trying. I still run across it occasionally. Would love to hear that story., -
Man, back then they used whatever was on hand. Unless they had a "deal" and lots of extras on hand.
-
Looks good. I built one way back when with Fred Cady decals. Testors white with testors clear, so it turned "testors yellow" over time. It's taking me a few a tries to get used to the Pledge stuff, but seems like a workable clear. I have been brushing it on with a wide soft brush. Works pretty well and I don't have to clean my airbrush with a separate cleaning process. I'm not good with acrylics of any sort in the airbrush yet.

1982 Bobby Allison Gatorade Buick - Salvinos JR kit
randyc replied to Goodwrench3's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Glad you finished. If you ever saw these cars up close when they were current, they were far from perfect, especially the short track cars. Not even as close as the kit. Wavy body work, wonky paint, etc. Looks great to me. -
Thanks, noted.

Wow. Loving the color. I have some boyd's red in enamel and in teh bottle it looks so dark. And the one time I remember using it, it came out darker than i wanted. Yours looks great.

My model building days are coming to an end
randyc replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Glad you decided to hang around. You're one of the regulars that always has good input or comments. I have done this before for others and will offer again. If you still build on things and get to a tough spot, PM me and maybe I can help you finish a few things that you might not be able to do. I actually like foiling, so if you build it and need foil, PM me and we'll see if we figure a way I can help. Anytime. -
Monogram 1960 Chevy Sedan Delivery

I tried and failed to make a SD from the revell impala. I just scam parts from the remains now. -
I have looked and looked today. At drill bits and razor saws. So many reviews say same thing - point not sharpened. I wish I had had internet when I first got that set of Huots in the black case. I still have a few but I broke most being heavy handed. I suppose I could order the 70 & 72 like others recommend. Really all I need is for plugs wires and pins. I have enough larger ones still left.
-
Every Zona tool I've seen looks good. Thanks Drill bits is going to be my next question. I think I have parts of 4 sets. Last set I bought was so crappy they are virtually unusable. I've been building for over 40 years. My old razor saws are probably 20 years old and they show it with rounded or missing teeth. And I was too cheap then to buy handle. So I want to find my "forever saw" LOL.
-
I need a new razor saw. I have two worn out Xactos with no handle. I have had them for years, but it's time to get a new one. Any opinions? Looking at this one https://www.amazon.com/Zona-35-140-Interchangable-Blades-36-555/dp/B000EROWJ4/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=hobby+razor+saw&qid=1600885108&sr=8-4 or go back to an Xacto, with handle this time. Funny ot read reviews of folks who try to use it with all four blades attached and folded back. Seems like a recipe for disaster to me. But anyway, opinions on what everyone is using?
-
Thanks - I'll set up a search for them. Just a general Econoline search and I can choose from there. I have not seen a plain white one yet.
-
I do need that Econoline. My grandfather used a plain white one for a work van and I spent many a summer day in it. Sometimes riding the engine cover when I was the youngest person. THOSE LOOK HARD TO FIND>...

As an aside, I have worked in sign industry since 1984. First time I had to reproduce SUBWAY logo for a sign face, I noticed some warts in the art. I removed them and submitted my art to Subway for approval to reproduce. The lady nicely explained that I need to go back to the original with warts and all - that was what they looked for to make sure it was authentic.

Ok,, I didn't know that tidbit of history. And I haven't built or bought either of them. I shall return to my corner and READ ONLY.. LOL. Thanks for sharing that.
