  1. Crossing my fingers for you to get the paint done with no more weird things happening.
  2. I was a big NASCAR fan when this was the "thing". It was an interesting time in racing as everyone was trying to come up with every little thing.
  3. Looks like you guys found some interesting pieces. I'm still waiting for USPS to deliver one stuck at a distribution center 60 miles away from me. It's been there for over a week now. Seller talked to someone and they said a machine is broken and to give it a few more days. More likely it's under a pile of election flyers.
  4. Nice. Probably builds up so well because that is the origin iteration of the kit. No compromises to make Lumina body fit the chassis. And it was such a nicely engineered kit. I used to love building hte NASCAR kits.
  5. I love any build of this kit. Nice job. Thanks for sharing the process and the finished build. Made me want to start another one. TV announcer voice: Now with improved skills! lol Thanks for the inspiration and clean build.
  6. They can be found for less. I think I might have paid $30 plus shipping for the CMW built up. I was looking at the plastic kits and they were similarly priced or higher. It's all in what someone will pay. If you look at sold listings, this one is probably near the most expensive. And there are probably some cheaper ones as well. As for selling on ebay, it's simple enough once you get the hang of it. And if you do it regularly, you can reuse your listings. Change title, photos , and description. I can do a listing in about 5 minutes or less once I take pictures. And from start to finish with photo taking, it's about 7 minutes per listing. And that's using my Android phone. Easier for me to do photos on phone, then add them to listing. BUt don't set your expectations too high. You may be disappointed that you don't get the "dream prices" that you see that make it look so attractive. Win some, lose some.
  7. Old engine blue is too dark to my memory. However, you might mix that and some Pontiac eng blue or Ice blue to get a lighter shade. This is from memory; I may be all wrong. Can't wait to see it though.
  8. I have that Shelby - Pretty dang nice. And your towing setup looks great!
  9. WEll, that's the stance I had in my head originally! Excellent. I know how far I have to go now to get it if I ever decide to try. Yours is going to be awesome.
  10. Egads! Nice collection there!
  11. Looks Great! I loved watching these cars race.
  12. I built it when it was new and used some sort of off-the-shelf parts store spray can touch up paint - like a marina or Nassau blue? Just guessing because it's been so long. Good luck and post photos if you can. Would love to see it built with the skills of today.
  13. I think the rear spoiler should be off the back like the Dart photo earlier. Just my opinion. Would give it a nod to the new tech while front has the nostagia. Had the Bird originally been designed for drag racing, might have had the lower spoiler? Idk...
  14. When I was building a lot of these NASCAR models, I was also working on a weekly racer that was a former 80s Busch car. Studying the cage in it helped me see where this bar attaches, but that photo shows it perfectly. That should help a lot of folks. The car in that photo is missing the "petty bar" from the Monogram kit. It may not have been in the rules yet though. Not sure when it came to be. I always wondered why the bar coming up from the floor was slanted.
  15. Those look great - it really depends on the type of track and setup at the time. For example, when we used to go to N Wilkesboro, there was always a lot of camber in the front right - hard to replicate but possible. And who would know the difference really? Some tracks had lower setups, some higher. I didn't always lower mine. Just built and let it ride, so to speak.
  16. What those guys said. If you do too much handling , it may start falling apart.
  17. My dealer is going to be less than $350 on these when they come in. Can we post links to dealers? He's mail order so you'd have shipping too. I'm out at that price, but look forward to seeing what you guys build. Edit: there is a link to another seller, so my guy is Wes's Model Car Corner on Facebook. $339 plus shipping, limited quantities. Wes had a brick & mortar many years ago. Stand up guy.

Love it. In my mind that's what the one I built last year looked at when my guy bought it and customized it. He started with something like that and ended up with a shiny car. Great looking build. I appreciate builds like this more and more. Keeps modeling fun after you might have built these models a time or two previously.
  19. Most all of the NASCAR kits needed a llittle bit of lowering to make them really look good.
  20. As Iborg said paint everything except dash, seat, steering wheel, suspension, and engine gloss gull gray of some sort. Even the inside of the body. That's kinda simplified but the real cars were built like that. Reference the builds in the under glass section. probably 95% of the cars since the 80s had the gray chassis and cage. From a quick search, this looks like the first generation Laughlin style chassis. The second generation GM kits had roll bar padding molded in and some other decals. Started with the Days of Thunder Lumina maybe? That's what I remember which may be incorrect. These can be a lot of fun, especially the body details. When I quit NASCAR models, I had over 200 built. I was very familiar with these. The body is a bit loose on chassis, if I remember correctly. It might be a bit larger than 1/24? Just a little. The chassis was orignially used under the 80s Monte Carlo, Regal, Grand Prix bodies whcih were a bit larger than the cars that replaced them. Monogram used the existing chassis and made bodies to fit and then modified those bodies. My google search shows the dirt devil kit to be a later Pontiac body. These can be built straight from box with nice results or you can go as wild as you like with details. Either way, enjoy the build.
  21. Feel free to do a WIP post on it. Would also love to have a kit in 1/24 but prices....
