Like others have said, looks good on screen. wheels look good on that car as well.

Yes. Silver sharpie does work well. I've used it off and on for years as well. But this is first time I've used it exclusively on a plastic kit. Works fine and gives the trim a bit of an older look to it. Foil is often too shiny to truly replicate trim. Looks great when done well on a first rate build. But reality is that trim on cars has several different levels. Stainless trim is different than chromed steel. THe Sharpie shows the bright work without being so overdone.

-Bench Seat : Duster , Plymouth-
randyc replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I had a 71 Dart - did the same thing. There was a latch on the seat backs that could be removed. Didn't allow the seat back to lock in upright position, but I held that in place - not like safety was a high priority then. And the rear seat of a 4 door was rounded on the outside corners, but it worked. My door cards were out of a Duster. -
And after that - the Roadkill Caddy powered Gremlin?

That's kinda cool. I don't see it really fitting my collection but would love to see some WIP and finished builds. I quite enjoyed most of my Sante Fe build. lol

Thanks to all for the compliments. And yeah I've never seen a purple Cougar either. But my wife said her aunt's was the dark maroon color that she remembers (50 year memory) as close to or almost purple. In fact, from beginning to paint time, wife changed her story on color. I found some maroon cars online, but I didn't have any maroon paint and wife was saying purple at this point, so purple it was. I really wanted a black cherry kind of color. Let's call it "day 2", eh? It's done and moving on from here. ? Sometimes it's hard to remember that it is just a model car - just a "toy" to the masses. Most people don't invest as much emotionally in our cars as we builders do. Hard for me to grasp that sometimes. At this point, I'm trying to build cleanly yet not let a build stagnate for too long. And some of these older AMT/MPC cars build really nice replicas that are not super detailed. I have a couple 65 Pontiacs coming up that will be built quick and clean. Love him or hate him HPIguy cranks out some really cool models quiclky. I can't let the mold lines go though, so I go a little farther than Chris, but still having fun and not letting a project get bogged down too much. I used your (and others) method of just silver sharpie on all of this one so as not to take a whole chunk of project to foil and/or Molotow. I usually try to hit at least the largest chrome trim with foil. But wanted to do a whole build with just the sharpie. Wife hasn't complained and no one but a modeler will really notice?

MCM Relaunch Update 11/6/2020
randyc replied to larrygre's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
Excellent news! Now to find a dealer. Our only LHS closed in the last coouple years. I hope you are bringing back some form of a "stictly stock" column - that was always where I went first to read about the kits I was about to buy. You may be a little busy, but kit reviews are very important to me in the model magazines. -
MCM Relaunch Update 11/6/2020
randyc replied to larrygre's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
I just canceled my subscription to FSM because it's FSM and no SA or MCM. I hope this issue gets this mag back on track - I may try to get this one instead if it looks viable. I'm really hoping it IS viable. MCM has been my favorite when I could get it. Therein is, of course, the rub. C'mon guys - I'm pulling for yas! -
Thanks everyone. One thing I made for it - the kit exhaust was kinda short. So I took some aluminum tube cut it at an angle. Then took my little hammer and "squared" the ends off instead of rounded tips. I would not go to the effort on the plug wires at this point, but the engine was built years ago. Also - the rear axle didn't place quite right - one side was too far back, so I had to work on the wheel centers a little to adjust it - just try to be sure you get axle located correctly on your build. THe nose, valance, and fornt and rear bumpers need some attention to get them to fit as snug as possible. I also scribed the panel lines deeper. Added a couple as well at the cowl vent and tulip panel.

This is parts of three different kits. The engine and interior came from my first build of the kit - body had some paint issues so I started again. Second issue (molded in yellow) was going to be gold. Got paint on body. Apparently I put it up to work on something else. When I was looking at finishing it up recently, I decided that the body was a bit rough and I had another kit in the stash. The wife had an aunt who had a cougar back in the day. It was some form of dark burgundy/purplish hue. I didn't have any really good burgundy, so out came some purple. Filled the spoiler holes, cleaned the body up. Primed with Rustoleum, top coated with Testors Boyd's purple - not sure which one. No clear. Just several week's of drying time, including some time in the dehydrator. Oh yeah, wheels are out of the Revell 69 Chevelle SS396, since they are more Ford correct. Not a super build, but it is complete. I still need to molotow some chrome spots where I either cleaned mold lines or cut from sprue. Realized that after I took photos. And I need towipe my camera lens better. All leftover parts sold on ebay, so I cleared 2 model boxes from my life. Just need a case for display now.

Nice work on this one - going to look great! Great interior.

Nice! I always liked the Home Depot car - one of my favorite schemes. And Tony is an interesting "character".

Nice Tim! Thanks for sharing.

Interesting comment. I'm sure many of feel this way about our builds. When some of our more prolific builders share a thought with us, many of us, myself included, may rush to comment in hopes of being noticed? Or so we can learn something? As I was working on my parallel build to this, I felt a bit of what you are saying. BUT I have nothing but respect for Tim Boyd and any of his builds - seems like I learn something from every build he shares even part of. And this was no exception. He did kinda post up on this one as we were working on same kind of project. And yes my thread has only 2 pages total and most of them are mine. Tim encouraged me along the way, though, so I am not complaining at all. And wish I had the patience, etc to do the build he did. His looks what I had in my mind for stance when I started my build a bunch of years ago. To this end, none of us can comment on every build. But, if Tim Boyd or any other builder chooses to share even a little bit of a build with us and we can learn somethhng, I am all in support of it. No telling wher inspiration or education can take place.

OH my gosh. I hate when stuff like that happens. BUt I've also learned to accept it and move on. I'm looking at your photos and seing the issues. And thinking if it were mine, I'd brush a couple coats of Pledge/Future on it and move on. Or maybe hit it with some wet/dry 2000 and then clear and move on. That's the now me. An earlier version would be more distraught. It's frustrating sure, but in the grand scheme, it isn't all that bad. Just depends on how invested you are in this particular build. Good luck working it out - you;ve certainly had troubles with this one.

It may be 18 x 18 or 16 x 16. It's pretty dang cumbersome. I did get a few new pieces in the bui8lding but haven't taken any pictures of that yet.

Old guys (and their silver wheels) rule. lol Looks good.

'54 Autocar tractor with added '50s era reefer trailer
randyc replied to traditional's topic in Diecast Corner
That's really nice. Thanks for sharing over here. I've seen a lot of your and your brother's pieces on the D4C page. -
Nice enough for the price. Those rite aid cars live rough lives.

I sold my plastic built up of this one. Mine was the black one, but danged if this doesn't make me want one of these. I'm trying to sell some more off though, before adding more. NICE!

Yep, 1/18 from ebay and a new Revell GS kit from Gramps. More GS fun for me coming up.

I helped on a local car back then. The track officials wanted to see our clutch. Johnny told them we'd take it out and show itto them next week. They agreed (how stupid is that?). So Johnny came up with a single disc clutch that theoretically would work and showed it to the officials. Who appreantly told our competitors. Because the week after that, you could smell the clutches burning and going out. You can't get by with one disc in a 7.5" clutch. lol

Got this one yesterday. It's 1/18, and not the Exoto, but still a GS. Rear wheel is broken but it needs to come apart for some detailing anyway.
