  1. Ah, yes. I vaguely recall these "hobby shops". The closest one is 68 miles away and just cut their modeling section by about 2/3rds. After that there's one in Berkeley about 110 miles away (Berkeley Ace Hardware) that moved to new location and removed about 80% of their previous modeling products. And yet, somehow, I still am managing to accumulate "stuff". Persistence is the key.
  2. A 2020 (or thereabouts) Shelby GT500, classic in white with Kona Blue stripes. Parked at Pier 48 in San Francisco (covered parking for the nearby Giants game) yesterday. Visualize this with blue stripes. As an aside parking was $50 (no, not a typo) but at least it was secure from the car break in's in the city.
  3. "Hobby shop"? What is this "hobby shop" of which you speak? Better than that what national chain?
  4. Hey, all. I've had an online subscription to VM for a couple of years. I've been trying to access the current issue on my iPad and it won't bring up anything but the thumbnails for the articles. There's no login box visible and the Safari web browser says the server cannot be found. Ideas?
  5. The concept is still alive today. Sit, or rather try to sit in the back seat of a Mustang. Dogs, small children; OK. Adult size people-well you better be good friends before a longish trip because you won't be afterwards.
  6. You sum up my view exactly. Were I of a mind to buy an electric vehicle (living in a semi-rural area with significant distances between charging stations=nah) I would look hard at it. But it is not and never will be a Mustang. Ford was trying to generate interest in a new line at the expense of product identity of a long established one. They did much the same thing, only the opposite a few years ago when they stopped calling it a Taurus and instead marketed it as a Ford 500. No identity, no interest. They went back to Taurus. Change my mind.
  7. As is James Hetfield, founder and front man for Metalica. In fact he has a current exhibit at the Petersen Museum in LA. https://www.petersen.org/reclaimed-rust-the-james-hetfield-collection
  8. Same car? 1939 Citroen Speedster-I checked the grill. There can't be that many running around Old Blighty. ?
  9. Agreed though I think it would look good in black-thinking a semi-retro Batmobile.
  10. Scalemates has it as a rebox of the Fujimi kit. Not necessarily a bad thing depending on price. Everyplace seems to project it as upwards of $65 for a kit I've got multiples of at $25-30. Hard pass. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/revell-07696-ford-gt40--1324086 FYI-Megahobby has the exact same kit with the same markings for just over $40. https://www.megahobby.com/products/ford-gt40-9-1968-lemans-winner-race-car-1-24-fujimi.html Now to look at the Meng 1/24-similar pricing but full detail.
  11. Is there something wrong with the roof paint or is it reflecting something that's not in frame?
  12. Oh my gosh! Beer decals?!?!? It will lead to the corruption of youth! Is no one thinking of the children?
  13. I saw this car as I was getting on the freeway in Santa Rosa, CA. Unbelievable that it also is featured on bringatrailer.com. I wasn't quick enough to snap a photo. Having said that I like the color scheme but IMHO the chop takes all the balance away. It would need 2-3" removed from the beltline and maybe a bit of a lowering. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1964-buick-skylark-5/
  14. That would make sense. Those were the two that played the major parts in Ghost Rider.
  15. I wonder what was being done with his bikes. Check out his book "Ghost Rider". I basically commit some crime to have any of those cars in the driveway.
  16. A bit off topic: has anyone else had trouble with Imgur hotlinking to this forum? It used to without question and suddenly it identifies this site as a blog or website rather than a forum and so won't allow a link to be embedded. I linked the photos above via Flikr with no problem.
  17. In a desperate attempt to cool off (103-112 degrees the past couple of days at home) we took off to the Pacific Coast in Fort Bragg, CA yesterday (61-66 degrees). Came across an unexpected Father's Day weekend car show. Along with the usual assortments of Corvettes, Mustangs, and Camaros there were a few more that I found interesting. You never know what you'll come across in the hinterlands. 1969 440 Coronet convertible (sign said there were just over 400 made that year) Something right out of a cartoon (or rather Kar-Toons) 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione 2 red cars A late 80's Citroen CXA There were a few more but my cell phone lied to me when it said it had captured some photos. There was a black/dark red 2CV next to the CXA and an early '80s Nissan Skyline
  18. Internet Hobbies shows it pre-order at $80. ? OTOH, its full detail and not a semi-curbside. Revell is supposed to release the Fujimi 68/69 GT40 in the mid $50 price range. Ebay prices are wildly varied-one seller pushing a run-of-the-mill version for $500! I'm glad I've got a number in the stash already
  19. Hey, do as you wish. I don't know the son and only knew the dad from occasional neighborhood talk and preparing his taxes several years ago at a AARP Tax Program site.
  20. This is a neighborhood car that used to have a car cover and air in the tires. I think the owner has passed and his son isn't interested. This one (and the passenger) was in front of a Petsmart in Santa Rosa, CA (Yes, the hub of wine country.)
  21. Heck, look at what they’re trying to foist off as a “Mustang” now. It’s probably a perfectly fine EV but its not a Mustang as far as I’m concerned.
  22. Soap Box; again. OK, Round 2. You've got the rights to the Shelby 289 (actually 260) Cobra. The molds are circa 1963 and have been in near-constant release since then so they have to be getting worn! How about a proper, up to date 289 Cobra. You could make different versions all the way from a (fairly) sedate "secretary/girlfriend" version-that's the way they were marketed so don't get mad at me-with whitewalls and wire wheels to a firebreathing USRRC/FIA version with Weber carbs and Halibrand wheels. To say nothing of drag versions, cutback doors, hardtops, as many wheel options as you could think. Just do it, you know you want to.
  23. I finally checked some gift cards that I had on file at Amazon and found what I’d been sitting on was enough for a Tamiya Mustang GT4. That came today. Next stop-Indycals unless you guys have a better idea.
